This is (in my opinion) one of Tom Waits great songs (and god he's got so many) and a beauttiful love song to boost. To take this on and give it your own interpretation is either foolish or heroic. Well, Mike gets the latter.
thanks TEAS.. I'm looking at 'grapefruit moon' but he gets some subtle colourful chords out of the piano that are really hard to translate on to guitar (well for me) hes a genius..
What a great version of this Tom Waits classic. If you fancy doing any more of his, how about 'The Heart of Saturday Night'. I think it would be perfect for your guitar style and voice.
And oh boy, do you get around the world ?! WOW! Must be really interesting to see what is happening there.
Btw. My R-offers still stand, when you return *LOL* Think you deserve a reward for all your great performances of his songs - have learnt a lot from watching those. Have fairly good versions of Hands of Joseph, The Setting and
lol.. I'm going to buy a guitar tomorrow made in Hanoi.. can't go ten weeks without playing.. I'd love to come and play sometime.. might drive to europe next year if you would like to meet up.. How can I get to hear you play..?? Red and gold is tough.. great!
Haha - I might have known that you can't live without one. But will be expensive on the plane home LOL No, I know what you mean.
Yes, that would be very nice.
Will think about it.
Hmm, that is difficult, getting to hear me play LOL But maybe someday I will find the courage to add a video here. My guitar is not that good and needs to have its bridge (?) and some frets changed + new strings now.
Well, I transposed it to C, where I think it's easier to play - instead of in D ( dropped D).
Do you play "Red and Gold" ? If so, I am really looking forward to your version - hæhæ.
It's not that difficult to figure out (in C) -and sounds really good, I think. The worst part is singing it with the right amount of feeling without getting too carried away - and to remember the many and long verses ( + remembering to breath at the right places LOL ).
I have also (nearly) worked out a great ragtime song called "Reverend Thunder" ( Rev. Gary Davis) that R. unfortunately hasn't released yet - you will just love it. ( I have heard a draft version of it in a radio show ).
I use to.. I even drove to oxford to the Bridge that RM't sang about.. i find it one of the more complex songs .. and for all the reasons you find.. I might have another go when I get back..
terrific! Loved it. Thank you.
