That's right. Will made classics before his Hollywood career began. Kids do your research! On another note I do beats. Stop by and check em out. All feedback and love will be appreciated, one.
This was track 3 and the 2nd single from Will's 2nd duo album "He's The D.J. and I'm The Rapper" and was the 25th song I learned by this really cool rapper and actor.
@daboss88100 The DJ The MC and the Dancers were ONE UNIT...The Golden Era!! Peace to OMAR MONEY the Dancer!! How many rap acts or groups FEATURE a Manly Street Dancer that you know by name NOW??? I don't want to miss the Golden Era anymore Boss88 I want it now too!!
@soulbrotherlegendary I feel you, bro, but unfortunately, you and I both know (just like our days of youth), THOSE days are gone...The game has changed and morphed into something I no longer understand, let alone respect...It severely lacks creativity and originality... R.I.P. REAL hip-hop music and culture...
not a huge fan of Will's flow but he managed to create 2 of the most timeless classics...this one and Summertime will always be funky fresh, super dope, illy philly funk!!!
Saw them in 88 with Run DMC, Public Enemy and EPMD. You will never EVER see a concert like that again. Jazzy Jeff was maybe the sickest DJ to ever rip it up.
@sacarmyvet that's like the show i went to at Glam Slam in LA...Chuck D and Ice T introduce Bone Thugs' first performance....Biggie, Craig Mack, and the Fugees (who killed it, all taking turns playin instruments)....never again!!!....funny thing is i went mainly to ear Flavor In Your Ear....."turn your body into aftermatter"
i swear i have tried, and tried and tried so many times but failed horribly 2 convince my friends that will smith was a good rapper. i think the reason why is because ppl kno him for his "bubble gum rap" songs like men in black, or getting jiggy with it or miami. will has put out sum great albums like homebase, he's the dj, im the rapper, and in this corner....and whtz crazii about it is that im only 18 and im sayin this! lol..but will doesnt get enuff props 4 his music career
yo i just remember everybody was rockin nefertiti rings and medallions and doin all those new jack dances remember watching these videos for the haircuts i kept a hair style called the 20th century with the public enemy sign in the back i rember i had a pair of lottos with the map of philly on it i rember shuttin the block down wit em man i miss those days
Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince went hard with this one!! I miss old school hip hop!!! When the rappers had talent not autotones and corny hooks & dances!!
I remember my Momz took me to this concert in Norfolk,VA which Public Enemy and Biz Markie were there and I was first introduce to real Hip Hop a landmark in my life!
One of the best songs by not only Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince but one of those hip hop classics that doesn't get enough attention, I still go ape shit whenever I hear that flow from Will beginning at the 2:13 mark...THAT SHIT GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS cuz i just love hip hop! When i was a kid I used to practice the dances to this song and played it so much i think it warped my tape, this and "Nightmare On My Street"...REAL HIP HOP
There is no one who knows hip hop that would say about Will and Jeff. They were/are just as much a part of hip hop.
Back then...we allowed all parts of hip hop to get out there. Now...its just shitty hop that gets airplay and we have to go back to underground to get real hip hop CULTURE.
Some folks don't even know the four elements of Hip Hop. The CULTURE is lost. Hood isn't Hip hop.
Wills flow on this track is sick! even though he was a mainstream bubblegum pop star....he still knew how to ride a beat and throw some catchy lines in there!!! God im glad to be born in the 80s!!! i feel bad for the kids that grew up in the 00's..lol
I had no idea they made a video for this track. I think the video is pretty bad to be honest. I just like listening to the CD (or the tape, back in the day!!!)
Mine too. I remember back in the day it was this a guy that the that had one of those little Jeep Samari's and had hella beat in it and was driving a party I was at and shaking the block with this song with the tarp rolled up on the back of the jeep.
i heard this song at 2 AM last night on SIRIUS Radio Old Skool Rap- Backspin
and love it. I'm 14 but i love old skool rap we need a new rapper makes a comeback with fresh rhymes we had back in the day not todays bull the only rapper who's okay now in days is Kanye West
Damn, isn't funny how white rappers make better music than black rappers? At least nowadays, since most, not all, black rappers today only talk about money bitches or the club. All of the innovation of the past, the hip hop golden age has been muddled by Crunk, Soulja Boy and rappers who could care less about intelligent and meaningful lyrics and the world in reality. How sad.
true!!!! if shit wouldn't sell like bread...shit wouldn't be made....
and i don't entirely agree with Josephjoel3...white rapaz don't make better rap music that black mc's...check the underground.. withe black even asian mc's or djs..producers make the dopest shit ever
mad true who other than Em falls into that category. Like the non black mc's tho they stay grounded. But its like that over seas too with ppl who are every colour. In the U.S. its just a tainted but hey, they invented it so its w/e.
This song kicks all types of ass! Alotta people thought Will was corny just because he never rhymed about killing anyone or seling dope to his own mother. Rappers these days should study Hip Hop music like this. Will and Jeff made classic music without rapping about fictional coke dealer stories.
Hip Hop heads wrote Will Smith off when the sitcom thing jumped off, but he had skills. As much as I don't like him, his career has been amazing... and his wife Jada Pinkett... even more reason to hate on him. DJ Jazzy Jeff one the illest DJs ever.
I saw them in concert many many years ago, and my ears still hurt they gave us an intense show, Jeff's transforming had me deaf. I went home and got bizzy on my 1200's. If you watch closely you'll see him dancing smooth. I actually remember learning that dance he did and did it a lot in the clubs, back in the day. (Yeah, on occasion I would "dumb dance", but that was only for friends and family!!)
jazzy jeff..... one of the greatest dj's to touch a pair of turntables.... will smith, aka the fresh prince.... done EVERYTHING right! shit! i remember buying "girls aint nothin but trouble" on 7" vinyl... im lying, i stole it, but anyway! they NEVER changed they format, NEVER changed who they were. ive been in to hip hop since about 1980.... i got NOTHIN but respect for these two guys! roll on the reunion album!
I really hate it when Will is not given credit for his incredible talent as a pioneer in Hip-Hop. I grew up in Philly and I remember when this song came out. It exploded onto radio. These cats were simply incredible...and still remain one of the finest groups to emerge from Hip-Hop. Crazy respect to Jazzy Jeff for inventing Transforming!!
