  • Simply the best!

  • Have NEVER seen a conductor take a bow before the soloist. No handshake, no acknowledgement--just an inflated ego.

  • where is the other parts :S

  • Cayo255 ----¡Qué maravilloso y Richard Straus CERVANTES y Karajan. " Don Quijote Por el camino que van a ver algunos de Viena Hombres SUJETOS un pastel para ellos Cuello Con Una Gran Cadena y Con Las Manos en mujeres. Con ELLOS estan Hombres y un caballo de la de la empanada, que les de vigilancia." HERNMOSO, Saludos desde Brasil. Gracias Cayo255

  • Where are the other parts on youtube?

  • The very best Don Quixote on record. There will never be a cellist to equal Rostropovich at his peak, and this collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic is one of his best.

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

  • His glasses are Ray-Ban, awesome

  • This is the greatest thing Strauss ever wrote here heard in the greatest performamce of it I have ever heard.

  • Mstislav is one of the only few cellist to correctly play the grace notes in the solo. Absolute musicianship.

  • The most beautiful piece in the Romantic canon.

  • Comment ne pas revenir entendre encore ....

  • Splendid!!!

! ! ! Marie K.

  • There has never been a cellist like Rostropovitch. During his best playing years no one came near him. I heard him live at that time and he was unbelievably great.

  • great clarinet solo of Karl Leister.

  • this is pure BEAUTY...

I can't imagine anyone not being in love with that Heaven moment of music... So many people pretending they don't like classical music should hear that...

Rostropovitch gives it an unbelievable human dimension... (perfectly helped by Karajan and the Berliner)... There are no words to describe it... thanks so much for sharing that... ;-)

  • I always get chills at 0:25! Really amazing! Such a sensitive work.

  • An excellent performance of possibly Strauss' finest work.

  • excellent performance by all 4, the cellist, the viola player , von Karajan and the BPO,awesome

  • Thanks for posting this magnificent video!

  • This is one of the best performances of Don Quixote. The best cellist of the history.

  • nothing more to say..

  • @Voro92 Not one of the best!!! THE BEST

  • Im glad I heard this before I died.:D

  • RIP

  • There has never been such a great cellist . I remember hearing him at his best several times in London. He has always been and always be my absolute hero.

  • is there a DVD of Rostropovich playing Dvorak with Karajan and Berlin Phil? or Rococo Variations?

  • When I heard Rostropovitch perform the Roccoco Variations and Lutoslavski in the same concert with the Bournemouth Orchestra in London in about 1970, I just couldn't believe just how great he actually was. In the Tchaikovsky, his tone was so incredibly deep and musical ( even better than on recording). His technique was absolutely phenominal at that time. They awarded him the Royal Society medal after that concert. Sir Arthur Bliss conducted.

  • Rostropovich ga von Karajan to kyoen shiteitanante shirimasen deshita. Rostropovich wa tashika yudayajin dattato omottakeredo???
