"Far more charisma and stage presence" It is implying you prefer the visual quality than of musical one when in your manner of appreciation of music. And the supposed "charisma and stage presence" do never equal her "musical" prospects in the long term! However I also love her playing and interpretation but it is rather of her own uniqueness or originality; at the same time it lacks of the authentic approach this greatest of masterpiece might require...

  • Hyun Su-Shin has her version of this Tchaikovsky Violin concerto 3rd movement on youtube and its taken from the the same competition 126,013 views so far and I think along with many others that it knocks this version into touch. It has far more bite and vibrancy than the Mayuko Kamio version. But its all down to the individual as to what is their favourite.

  • これを見て大ファンになりました

  • Akiko Suwanai is way better

  • @claus1225

I agree with you that Akiko Suwanai is in a different Class to Mayuko Kamio , but then in this particular competition I far preferred the young Hyun Su-Shin of south korea, she has far more charisma and stage presence than Mayuko Kamio and perhaps in the long long will turn out to be the better performer.

  • bravo

  • Pourquoi les violonistes japonaises sont-elles de telles virtuoses? qu'y a-t-il dans leur culture qui les a prédisposées à de tels talents! Magnifique Mayuko!

    bravo!

  • Wonderful Music

YouTube the Great Great Grandfather in Composition of Peter I. Tchaikovsky:

    Iosif Andriasov

  • I like Akiko, I like Mayuko, whaw! I think europeans we have lots to learn from Asians, who start young and put a 100% in their work. Talent is there or not, but hard work, hours of study for years give a result, just liste to this amazing finale

  • This is really amazing. This woman is a very great talent. What a performance !!! Full of emotion, Suwanai performed to technical.

  • @Michaelvandiepen Yes I agree with you, Kamio plays better than Suwanai as far as this Tchaikovsky Competition is concerned. Kamio's performance is simply bolder whereas ( as u put it ) Suwanai tends to be a bit technical.

  • I definitely prefer Akiko Suwanai's performance. I don't know how I explain, but I don't like this performance.

  • @tdt221 it's music :) It's better enjoyed if you don't have to explain.

  • This movement is as beautiful as it is a torture to play. I guess Tchaikovsky's intention was to make the soloist faint by the end!!!

  • What happen at the end there tympani, lost count did we?

  • It's my favorite movement of the violin concerto :D

  • Crap. If she relied to win the Competition based on this performance.. she would have lost.. Lucky for her.. she did well in Round 1 and 2. Total Crap. I know its not nice to compare.. but Akiko Suwanai played better.

  • I think she should do theater .....

  • Pretty damn good playing. I felt like she was anticipating the end so much that she and the orchestra almost ended at different times. She's great, though.

  • err.... did she just hopped (literally) at 8.06???

  • MrOO.. in the kingdom of the blind.. she would be the one eyedking..

oh and.. akiko suwanai didn't make as many mistakes as she did.. :P

  • @ezaneismail Actually, I have had multiple epiphanies after listening to other recordings of this concerto >.< So I actually now prefer Midori's :)

  • Hmm...if you compare her to the other competitors, her's IS actually the best.

  • Mayuko is an extremely fine musician.

Everybody should stop nit picking this performance. Competitions are hell....and and all the players are Nervous and anxious.

    Try playing under those conditions.

Not only that she was having a problem with her bow. Give the girl a break.

She's pro caliper and everyone knows it! :)

  • Japanese are so talented

  • @raynor7: rofl, some are, hehe. My fiance couldn't play an instrument to save her life, lol. She's a phenomenal cook though, so that's fine by me. Fact is, we all have talents of our own.

  • if you want to hear this solo in clarinet go to dgpoblete and find out how fast he did in clarinet.

  • Excellent playing! TY!

  • This is beautiful music. Five stars.

  • Wonderful music!

This is beautiful. 5 stars ★★★★★

    Erika Ragazzi

  • haha the orchestra can't catch up with her ^_^ she plays so well...

  • you have a masculine way of playing you ass

  • i'd like to see you play it better.

  • Close your eyes and listen!!!

  • Coments on her earlier movement say "too slow" but this certainly makes up for it. Excellent playing and a very interesting, individual sound.

  • she is truly amazing! so passionate and just touches my heart! no wonder she won!

  • Bravooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very impressive performance!!! Bravo, Mayuki!

  • :) :) :) :)

  • wow the size of the orchestra greatly decreased compared to when akiko suwanai played this.

anyways...mayuko's real good. i like how she hops a lot. good interpretation

  • No wonder she won last place.

  • I don't see what's so bad about my comment. And didn't they both win first? :D

  • nothing's wrong with your comment ;)

  • I guess your observation comment makes sense then, if you like drinking liquids with lots of hops in them.

  • Her pizzicato in/on or at (I'm Portuguese) 0:30 is SO Beautiful. It sounds like an harp.

    OMG'

    She plays so good.

    Her final is simply amazing.

    Many Congratulations :)

  • Brindisi!!!!!!!

  • OMG thats funny I was thinking the same thing.

  • she does play spiccato where it requires

  • from this one piece she appears to have it over Suwanai. I like her playing here better, a nice effort.

  • An Artist... Great Son of God! Hard Work!

  • yeah, right, Zakhar Bron didn't teach her spiccato...pft, are you kidding me?!

  • of course she's better!!!i mean except emotionaly,technicaly it's amasing!!!!everithing it's control,and i swear i saw her playing,the sound of the violin it's crazy,all the concert hall is in music,around you.....

  • I think she is great!

Technically, comparable to Suwanai, but more expression in emotion. She makes me cry in certain part.

  • why does mayuko only get 3 stars in like every vieo of her?

  • This cadenza just make me sleep very well. Boring. Absolutely no bright.

  • omg she's fantastic !!!

  • i think she's very good. Promising recording artist too

  • it really annoys me how she doesn't use spiccato.... it's tchaikovsky!!!

  • she prolly does but the audio is so crappy that you don't hear it. altho i really see it so maybe you're right

  • I think you'd hear if it were spiccato or not. After all, all of her other small scratches are audible.

  • i mean, i really dont see the spiccato so maybe you're right

  • from the sound and from the video, it's pretty clear she doesn't...

  • I have to agree with previous comments. Kamio is outstanding but the performance doesn't stack up to the performance of prior winners. Akiko Suwanai's performance was truly *special* and a step above in both musicality and technical ability.

  • definitely about the akiko part. she's just amazing overall lol

  • Her bow hair is loose from the start to 1:55 when she has to tighten the bow screw. I can hear the stick brushing her strings between 0.14-0.24.

  • oh my god, she's amazig! she studied violin at konservatorio in zurich

  • Would this happen to be the Moscow Symphony?

  • amazing!

  • Her bow hand could loosen up. Personally I think Suwanai is on a different level than her. Her's isn't as clean as Suwanai's.

  • Unless you won Tchaikovsky too, with more votes than she did, you're in no position to judge how she should hold her bow.

  • Obviously you have no idea on the fundamentals of violin, so you're in no position to refute what I said. Furthermore, it's irrelevant whether I play as well as her. You also realize her teacher is Zakhar Bron, who basically judges the competition.

  • No need to imply that Kamio's win was due to Bron. Kamio was clearly more outstanding than the other contestants I have watched. You should not denigrate her like that. Why don't you keep your personal attack, your jealousy and your bitterness all to yourself.

  • It's evident from your response that you did not even bother to read the original comment I made. Furthermore, IF you had, you would realize that everything you are stating right now is completely pointless because I did not attack her personally. I simply said her bow hand could loosen up, which is evident from her straight, stiff pinky.

  • I do not resent her at all; she is a MUCH better violinist than me, to the furthest degree; and even if her bow hand is better than mine, that doesn't mean I can't point out that it could be better. In any case, please explain how it is denigrating to state that there's someone out there better than her?

  • I'm not trying to say that the only reason why she won was due to Bron. Simply the fact that bias DOES exist. Am I jealous? Sure you could say that. But I'm a LOT less jealous of her than Suwanai.

  • Not true. Constructive criticism is ok. You don't have to be a Tchaikovsky winner to be critical of her technique. Nor do you have to be a actor to have contructive opinion about a actor's appearance in a movie. Same for other art forms, as long as your criticism is constructive, healthy and genuine. Unfortunately, a lot of people on Youtube are more about personal attack. To me, Suwanai's Tchaikovsky performace was superior to Kamio's. If Kamio is 1 in 200,000, then Suwanai is 1 in 1,000,000

  • I agree. Kamio is good, but I do not think up to the calibre of some of the previous winners. This is a competition to find the greatest violinist possible not just a very solid good player who was trained extremely hard by a great teacher. Zakhar Bron had obviously put a lot of energy and time into her. ANd if you were the teacher, you would want to push your student as hard as you could.

  • definitely

  • the point is, she was far from beeing the best among all participants in THIS last competition.

  • Sorry for replying way late, just checking my mail on YouTube. Anyway, if you admit this, you admit that you are wrong. Never did I attack her. Your opinion is that Kamio is better than Suwanai, whereas my opinion is the other way around.

  • I think that both Suwanai and Kamio are so good! Suwanai is the youngest winner in this competition. She was only 19.

  • is her violin a strad?? i think it is...or not...LOL

her right arm is stiff but other than that, she's perfect

  • Her instrument is a 1727 Stradivarius, previously owned by violinist Joseph Joachim, on loan from Suntory Limited, Japan.

  • its out of tune to start with

  • not really

  • Sorry it is not out of tune. She is an excellent player and musician.

  • what key are you in???

  • one of my favorite concerto.

  • bravo! I have not watched such splendid performance.

  • OMG, that violin is ridiculous...

  • that violin is a strad, was the violin of joseph joachim

  • I really really wanted to see her play this concerto because it is my favorite. I can see her bright future. Thank you so much for uploading!

  • Great performance. I can see why she is deserving of the grand prize in the Tchaik. Was it just me or did the last chord played become a bit broken?
