it would have been so cool if somehow they could have kept it a complete secret that palpatine was actually darth sidious, then this scene could have been way more shocking!
another thing i hte is how palpatine kills 3 jedi in 3 seconds while yoda wasn even able to kll dooku before he dropped the pillar on obi and anakin. i just feel lik none of the prequels did justice to yodas skill tht way,

@Tabuu360Xx The actor's old. In the senate fight, he was wearing a hood, so it was easy to replace the actor with a stuntman who can flip around the place and fight cg gremlins.

I've noticed that when a lightsaber gets knocked out of the wielders hand, it automatically shuts off. weird. i guess it has a built in safety system lol.

Yoda had a Force vision that said he couldn't risk dying, because had to survive to train Luke. So he deliberately fled. Possibly Yoda could have beat Palpatine, but he wasn't sure of it. The second thing is that Mace used Vapaad, the lightsaber technique of which only he was a master, to battle Palpatine. Supposedly Vapaad is the most destructive, most fierce technique of them all - Mace was a better swordsman than Yoda.
@Tabuu360Xx Which isn't to say that the movie portrays it in a way that you understand; it doesn't. Palpatine was able to kill the Jedi masters because he used Force speed or some kind of dark cloud power, and they could've just animated that. Instead, we are led to believe that these great masters would literally not defend themselves against his strikes. Sigh.
@Tabuu360Xx This fight was a complete setup (on Palpatine's behalf), he was playing weak and holding Windu long enough just for Anakin to come in and witness how Windu was the perpetrator/bully while he was the weak and defenceless old man. At the same time this was his opportunity to pressure Anakin to make the wrong choice, knowing that if it was done, Skywalker would have nowhere else to go.
@DiabolicHeart So Palpatine could've easily killed Mace Windu if he tried? Also if Mace Windu killed Palpatine would that take Mace a step towards the Darkside? I know Palpatine was a Sith and all but he was unarmed even Anakin questions himself about him killing Count Dooku because he was unarmed and it wasn't the Jedi way to kill an unarmed prisoner.

I loved the Clone War pre empire era. The jedi generals were so cool. And when I mean clone wars I don't really mean the cartoons lol. The novels and comics were great, on par with this movie in action and dark war time tone.
Absolutely love McDiarmid as The Emperor is my favorite villain of all time in motion pictures. But he looked so terrible in this fight scene. I understand he is old and really isn't skilled ... and a stunt double was used for most of it, but the parts he was in were just terrible. He barely looked like he could hold onto the lightsaber hilt.
@wes6ify Actually Mace would've probably have been able to redirect that as well if his hand wasn't chopped off lol. Sidious knew once he was unarmed there was no way he could beat Windu. He needed Anakin to do what he did so he could get a killing blow in.

I love how Ian McDiarmid has been classically trained through British theatre. The way he enunciates his lines, adds inflections in his voice, it's just absolutely amazing. I feel so honored to watch him play his part. There is just something about classically trained stage-actors that blows the average "celeb actor" out of the water.
Lucas, could redeem himself. He could put out something in an "alternate universe, far far away" and have Mace win in that universe and Anakin go on and train his son later in life. Mace won, but Anakin had other plans.

I wonder why people keep arguing over who won the fight. George Lucas has already stated that Palpatine was delaying the fight in wait of Anakin to get him to turn to the dark side by chosing Palpatine over Mace in order to save Padme.
Palpatine was stronger in the Force yes, he had very high Force potential.
Think about it, Vader in his later years is said to be around 80% of Palpatine's power. Which means Sidious is only 20% off from being the true embodiment of the Force.
However, it doesn't changed the fact that Mace is a better duelist.
i really don't understand how he took down the first 2 jedi so quickly, i think George Lucas could have made this sequence a little bit better. He could have killed the first one by spinning into him and stabbing him, then dropped the 2nd one a few seconds later, then the 3rd and finally have a better fight with Mace Windu. Lucas should have changed a few parts of this sequence in the blue ray release :(

Agreed. In fact, it is part of the official canon that Mace won this fight, that he actually overpowered the Emperor. You can see Palpatine out of breath, and when you think about it, Mace could have killed him just before Anakin came in.

Which i like actually because as Stan Lee said "to have a great hero, you must have an even greater villian" the hero being Luke.

@Ingisen They weren't equal with sabers. Mace's Vaapad was better than Palpatine's form. Which wasn't actually stated to be Juyo. What allowed him to beat him in the saber duel was that he let himself go while using Palpatine's darkness against him as well. He does the same thing with the lightning. As you said Mace's shatter point did help him too. The force? Palpatine WAS superior but not by as much as you think. Mace did have shatterpoint after all. He had a pretty high affinity as well

Yes, that part where he said he was 'weak.' Interesting you mention Luke in connection with this. Anakin was knocked out by Dooku's lighting in Attack of the Clones, but Luke took the Emperor's blasts in close ranger for a much longer time, and he still had the strength to carry his Father. I know Anakin was the "chosen" one, but some times I think Luke much better suited the title.
@babystinky When i think about it though Vader was never as powerful as the Emperor (because of the fact he was more machine than man obviously) so the "chosen one" title only refers to the individual tipping the scales of the force and nothing more. Luke on the other hand was just one bad ass, i applaud Lucas for having a inexperienced hero go up against not one bad two of the most powerful people in the galaxy and not just win but turned one back to the light side. Very poetic, very well done!
I think the emperor was holding back after he got thrown to the ground. This was done because, he had an opportunity to turn Anakin. Or at least gain his trust. Making Mace look like the bad guy knowing Mace was aware the Jedi way of handling things would cause, The Sith to still be in charge. This because, like he said he is basically the senate. The emperor played on the moment knowing he could possibly make the young Anakin make a rash decision.
this scene is supposed to be sort of a transformative scene for Sidius. When fighting windu, is is supposed to have been summoning all the sith power he could, which, according to them, the story guys, is supposed to have been the cause in his change in appearance. You'll notice he has expressions that are sort of "testing the waters" even against his own disbelief that he's winning as he does it. the same way he laughs the whole time he fights yoda. He's amazed that he's actually winning.

1. Windu is know for his lightsaberskills, yoda for his knowledge of the force.
2. Palpatine doesn't suck, he killed 3 jedi masters in a row within seconds and did ok versus windu, versus yoda it was close, but the edge to yoda.

@Tabuu360Xx This fight was a complete setup (on Palpatine's behalf), he was playing weak and holding Windu long enough just for Anakin to come in and witness how Windu was the perpetrator/bully while he was the weak and defenceless old man. At the same time this was his opportunity to pressure Anakin to make the wrong choice, knowing that if it was done, Skywalker would have nowhere else to go.

@DiabolicHeart So Palpatine could've easily killed Mace Windu if he tried? Also if Mace Windu killed Palpatine would that take Mace a step towards the Darkside? I know Palpatine was a Sith and all but he was unarmed even Anakin questions himself about him killing Count Dooku because he was unarmed and it wasn't the Jedi way to kill an unarmed prisoner.

@Tenacityful He fell to the Dark Side the minute he failed to adhere to the Jedi code. Jedi do not kill defenseless prisoners.
Had Mace decided to let him live, things might have been different. Anakin definitely wouldn't have chopped off his saber hand.
Don't get me wrong, I love Mace... but I think he dropped the ball big time on this one.

I loved the Clone War pre empire era. The jedi generals were so cool. And when I mean clone wars I don't really mean the cartoons lol. The novels and comics were great, on par with this movie in action and dark war time tone.

Absolutely love McDiarmid as The Emperor is my favorite villain of all time in motion pictures. But he looked so terrible in this fight scene. I understand he is old and really isn't skilled ... and a stunt double was used for most of it, but the parts he was in were just terrible. He barely looked like he could hold onto the lightsaber hilt.

@wes6ify Actually Mace would've probably have been able to redirect that as well if his hand wasn't chopped off lol. Sidious knew once he was unarmed there was no way he could beat Windu. He needed Anakin to do what he did so he could get a killing blow in.

I love how Ian McDiarmid has been classically trained through British theatre. The way he enunciates his lines, adds inflections in his voice, it's just absolutely amazing. I feel so honored to watch him play his part. There is just something about classically trained stage-actors that blows the average "celeb actor" out of the water.

I wonder why people keep arguing over who won the fight. George Lucas has already stated that Palpatine was delaying the fight in wait of Anakin to get him to turn to the dark side by chosing Palpatine over Mace in order to save Padme.

Palpatine was stronger in the Force yes, he had very high Force potential.
Think about it, Vader in his later years is said to be around 80% of Palpatine's power. Which means Sidious is only 20% off from being the true embodiment of the Force.
However, it doesn't changed the fact that Mace is a better duelist.

i really don't understand how he took down the first 2 jedi so quickly, i think George Lucas could have made this sequence a little bit better. He could have killed the first one by spinning into him and stabbing him, then dropped the 2nd one a few seconds later, then the 3rd and finally have a better fight with Mace Windu. Lucas should have changed a few parts of this sequence in the blue ray release :(

Agreed. In fact, it is part of the official canon that Mace won this fight, that he actually overpowered the Emperor. You can see Palpatine out of breath, and when you think about it, Mace could have killed him just before Anakin came in.

@babystinky yeah, Mace won the Lightsaber fight because he was one of the best combatants but Palpatine was lying when he said he was weak as it was revealed when he shocked Windu and said "unlimited power". I'm pretty sure i heard or read somewhere of a quote from Lucas stating that Palpatine was the most powerful Sith ever, even more powerful the Yoda himself. Which i like actually because as Stan Lee said "to have a great hero, you must have an even greater villian" the hero being Luke.

@Ingisen They weren't equal with sabers. Mace's Vaapad was better than Palpatine's form. Which wasn't actually stated to be Juyo. What allowed him to beat him in the saber duel was that he let himself go while using Palpatine's darkness against him as well. He does the same thing with the lightning. As you said Mace's shatter point did help him too. The force? Palpatine WAS superior but not by as much as you think. Mace did have shatterpoint after all. He had a pretty high affinity as well

Yes, that part where he said he was 'weak.' Interesting you mention Luke in connection with this. Anakin was knocked out by Dooku's lighting in Attack of the Clones, but Luke took the Emperor's blasts in close ranger for a much longer time, and he still had the strength to carry his Father. I know Anakin was the "chosen" one, but some times I think Luke much better suited the title.

@babystinky When i think about it though Vader was never as powerful as the Emperor (because of the fact he was more machine than man obviously) so the "chosen one" title only refers to the individual tipping the scales of the force and nothing more. Luke on the other hand was just one bad ass, i applaud Lucas for having a inexperienced hero go up against not one bad two of the most powerful people in the galaxy and not just win but turned one back to the light side. Very poetic, very well done!

I think the emperor was holding back after he got thrown to the ground. This was done because, he had an opportunity to turn Anakin. Or at least gain his trust. Making Mace look like the bad guy knowing Mace was aware the Jedi way of handling things would cause, The Sith to still be in charge. This because, like he said he is basically the senate. The emperor played on the moment knowing he could possibly make the young Anakin make a rash decision.

this scene is supposed to be sort of a transformative scene for Sidius. When fighting windu, is is supposed to have been summoning all the sith power he could, which, according to them, the story guys, is supposed to have been the cause in his change in appearance. You'll notice he has expressions that are sort of "testing the waters" even against his own disbelief that he's winning as he does it. the same way he laughs the whole time he fights yoda. He's amazed that he's actually winning.
