She has. Copies were sent to Kate and her family. I know that her late father particularly enjoyed this track. I've not heard of any statement from Kate about it.
I love this. It's so original and inspired. I don't think it's possible to reach any where near Kate's level by simply covering her note for note, but by transposing the style of the song across the Atlantic, they have shown a 'think outside the box' abroach that mirrors what makes Kate's work so genius. 10/10.
Is this really a cover of 'There goes a Tenner'? As a song, it wasn't hideous, however, if I was them, I would have given it a new name and recorded it as an original...
It's definitely based on "There Goes A Tenner" - same story, same basic melody, many of the same lines. The main thing is they took Kate's English Cockney criminal argot and translated it into American "Gangsta". A brilliant re-construction. Very likely my favorite Kate cover mainly because it didn't try to imitate Kate. The original exists, if you want to hear it, put on The Dreaming.
Not exactly a brilliant or insightful comment. Do you think it's a bad example or rap music, or do you just prefer that Kate either be covered exactly as written, or not covered at all?
I get the idea but I still don't like the song as a cover. It sounds good. It's just that her lyrics are such a vital part to the original. I don't care if they don't include one note from the original, but why disregard the lyrics as well!? She is a writer. So why throw the words out? Let's say someone was a big fan of Robert Frost, and they decided to rewrite his poetry before reading it to an audience. Same thing here, in my opinion. Just my view. :)
Um, there are actually quite a few of the original lyrics in there. "Ok, remember" "What about Edward G" "We're waiting" "treat the gelignite tenderly"...
Obviously, I can't convince anyone who doesn't like this cover to like it. But I can say, as a huge Kate Bush fan, that I find the most respectful covers the least worthwhile. BTW, this is Kate's dad's favorite cover.
this is the loosest "cover" i have ever heard... i really don't like that they threw her lyrics out the window (she is a writer!). pretty half-baked of an idea, though it works well on it's own and not as a cover.
This was by far the best track on _I Wanna Be KaTe_...though I'll admit that the album as a whole worked a hell of a lot better than I expected it to! Anyway, 'tis very cool to see film of the band performing it. Thanks, C!
We videotaped it, though as I didn't have a great battery for my camcorder, I only got the Kate covers. The actual show was nearly 4 hours if I recall.
There must be another tape of the show, as there was someone there shooting with a Canon XL-1.
what a great version. love the fact that its so different and that these guys have heard of kate!

One of Chicago's most promising bands...to see how they've developed, look them up on YouTube under Hot Wax TV

The idea is that they took the English criminal lingo of the original, and translated it into an American one. I thought it worked wonderfully.
