I support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan not really for the reasons the Bush Administration gave though. I agree with Christopher Hitchens on the issue. A little historical perspective makes these wars a bit more justified. I have 4 main reasons for my support. 1. Saddam Hussein commited genocide against his own people. 2. Saddam invaded Iran killing millions, 3. he gave shelter to international terrorists, 4. Sadamm tried to annex Kuwait. These are enough reasons to invade and spread freedom.

It just happens that many dictators in the middle east happen to be very very crazy and good at corrupting religion. Go to an American mosque and you'll be very lucky -or unlucky, I guess- to find a fanatic. Iran has not invaded another country for over a century. The US/UK overthrew the democratically elected government/Mossedegh in the fifties and installed a dictatorship. You people that are following wikileaks and Assange are under mind control/propaganda. This is a CIA operation....highly sophisticated double think propaganda/smokescreen. They are leaking information that advances their agenda and strengthens public opinion towards war with Iran and perhaps Korea. It is so sad for me to watch and listen to people under this mind control, hard to see people being misled all over again.

May I just say that I enjoy watching these Howard Bloom interviews, though the "Amazing Atheist" himself is a poor example of an atheist, or even a staunch secularists.
My only complaint about these interviews tend to ware on and on as you guys get lost in metaphors and minuscule subpoints, distracting from any focus or further exploration of these topics in a timely and efficient manner.

@heero171 The "Amazing Atheist" is a great character and is very entertaining. Most Atheists are poor examples of Atheists. Most of them tend to be emotional, passionate, concerned, not objective, strangely attached outcomes instead of being logical and observant. A true Atheist you would think, would struggle with meaning at all, struggle with emotional attachment, struggle with laughter and joy. Truth is Matter and energy including your mind and body.

@marhoekful Great speech, except that Atheist don't have to have everything figured out since we've accepted that life is a mystery as far as the "big questions" go, with scienece seeming to be clearest way to explain stuff we're more certain of.
Instead of approaching this humble position in a way that seperates him from his zealous counterparts,he's very loud, obnoxious, childish, and uses his atheism as an excuse to act in this way (sort of like Perez Hilton if he were semi-intellectual)

Human beings are at the whim of biological processes, and natural inclinations to raise their young to perpetuate the species. Nature is so intelligent that it created emotion to ensure that parents would raise their young to the age of reproduction, otherwise offspring would die and the species would not survive.

Obviously I know that not every Muslim wears a burka. I was referring to the ones who believe showing the face to a large male population is indecent.
I never understood why *some* Muslim women have to be covered for god and modesty while the men run around in the latest modern hair & clothes fashions...

Firstly, only a few sects of Islam require veils. These veils are not required in most Islamic sects, and the Qur'an doesn't say anything about the veil being required.
Secondly, the veil in these sects are to prevent women from being persecuted and judged based on their looks.
Try understanding something before you comment.

very few countries have genuine free speech any more, for example, if I were to walk into an airport and say I am a fundamental islamicist, I would be arrested for terrorism. If I went into a police station and said that I hate it when cops BS to give someone a ticket, I would be arrested. the government says free speech has limits but I think it's no longer free speech if it has limits.

I can hardly see how WW2 demonstrated anything about racial purity theses. If anything, it demonstrated the exact oposite, that is, that a two rather small yet racially pure countries can sustain a 6 year fight against the rest of the world.

@JennyFarlopez I agree but the large majority of the allies casualties is the soviet union who's large death rate had more to do with their tactics, running straight at the enemy and overrunning them with number, rather than any racial purity. Another chunk of the casualties was from china which, whose civilians were being completely massacred by the Japanese in what is basically a lesser known holocaust. Also the 3rd ally with most casualties was Poland. But still its not a good example.

@JennyFarlopez I think that is mainly because of the Russians losing so many people, and the differences in tactics used. The US and British didn't employ tactics involving ethnic cleansing when marching through Europe and the Pacific. Genocidal tactics were used by both the Nazis and the Imperial Japanese.
