This is an unfortunate remake. Over-thought and silly. Come on 'Christians', do your research and get down to the REAL work of healing. Or you can keep waiting for another 2 millennia for your Roman myth to re-appear...read Caesar's Messiah by Joseph Atwill then let's talk.
In his autobiography "Seeds of Change" Livgren says that when he wrote the original 'Portrait' song, he was into a form of religion called The Urantia Book. He says 'Portrait' was about the author of that the Urantia book, whose name I do not know. After Livgren became a Christian he changed the words to make them about Jesus Christ - hence "Portrait II." I must confess I don't like the music to this version as well as the original though. Don't know why he changed it so much.
At age 14 when listening to the original songs by Kansas, I thought they were singing about Christ. I thought the message was cleverly hidden to send out the message into the secular world. I had no idea the songs were about Albert or Howard. Even today, I believe the orignal versions were pointing the listener to Christ. It pointed me to Christ. Kerry was(is) a genius. lol I am so glad that he made this version for those less apt to see Christ in the other versions.
Only vampires and cannibals can go to heaven if you take what Jesus said in a literal sense. He may well be Lord but I have only seen betrayal from the christians I have know and from every church I have been to. When I hear christianize spoken I run for my life. So sad that the simple message of Love is so screwed up by those who claim to be the good Lords own. Pastors are part of the evil in the world system and I will never be with this lie again. Jesus is great but who lives his example?
@bobbyles you are partially right when u say ur sick of fake christians. but to say that they are all bad isn't true. im a christian who isn't perfect and don't try to b. some pastors are fakes. not gonna denie that. but not all are.
Hey Bud, I don't mean to sound augmentative but why do all the churches give pastors the seat of honor? The book of james says not to. God is not for sale yet church leadership sell Him then tell us that if we suck up to him he let us in heaven, if not he'll burn us 4ever. This is not the God and Father I KNOW> Do unto others is the great commission and teach others to Love everyone even unto Death. Our own. God will have all men to be saved so it is a process not just a prayer.
I believe Jesus is our Lord. I cannot believe in the lie that says some will go to hell 4ever. Only a demon god would burn anyone 4ever and since God is better then me and I would never burn my children then neither can God. God is the Father of all and takes his responsibilities as that Father. Correction will be 4all and it will fit the crime so to speak. Gods judgments are fair. Any sin IS NOT ETERNAL, so the punishment cannot be. Call to God, even from hell and he will save. Church says no.
It is like saying "it's raining cats and dogs" and besides the sentence starts with "IF" but their names will be written in the book of life. We are all living. Why would God want anyone to burn 4ever? In know I don't want them to burn and I am not more forgiving then God. I do not say we will ot reap what we sow, that we will. The bible is not perfect nor is it the word of God, Jesus is the word. I should not comment as I do not wish to fight about this. You and I will both make it.
@bobbyles dude - i wouldn't go to a church that elevated the pastor that way. i'm with you: I honor the office, but the man in the office is not to seek it.
I always thought that he was talking about Jesus.. but in an interview he was talking about the search he had at that time...and at the time he wrote this he had not yet found Jesus. Not as Lord anyhow.I don't think he was talking about Jesus in the first one but for YEARS I did believe thats what he was talking about,.I know it made ME think about Jesus when I heard the song. Love this music.
@CHRISTSmusicians well, Kerry admits he was seeking and yet not seeing truth yet in those days. I know that when I first heard that original song, it made me begin a journey of seeking spiritual things.
I heard that Kerry changed the words from the original about Howard Hughes to this version about Jesus Christ! I know you know that RuubW hence the picture but you didn't mention it in your liner notes! Thanks for the post!
I didn't know that. Of course I knew there's a Portrait I. But Portrait II and this remake of it (so this one is technically Portrait III) are fully about our Lord Jesus ;)
That is absolutely correct! I'm sorry for assuming that you knew and I'm glad to pass that along! As you already know(again I'm assuming!) almost all of Kerrys work from day one with Kansas was as he put it a religious pilgrimage to find answers which he did in 1980! All his work after that was dedicated to the Lord Jesus! His book "Seeds of Change" explains all of this and is excellent! God bless you my friend!
@RuubW and then we now have Portrait IIII, he remade the remake of Prime Mover again in 2008 (Which makes Prime Mover III). He added more guitar solos, a new deeper drum sound, and kinda cleared up the sound a bit and brought it out of the fog. By that I mean, listening to this version here, it sounds more like a live version than a studio. he cleared that up.

There is no way possible that Jesus looked like the man that painting. It is western man creating god in his own image.

No actually Jesus was a shade of olive brown.
