This is lovely, I adore the expression work you've done here, very smooth and pretty animation. I hope to attend SCAD in the fall, I'm nervous about picking the right school but I hope I benefit from them, did you enjoy their program?
I am just finishing up right now. This was one of my first animations with Professor Troy...I am in the process of redoing this...the improvement in 2 years is amazing...I loved the program. Didnt love all the classes or teachers...but I can help you with that. SCAD is a good school...but comes with a lot of bullshit...so be prepared!
@syminka I went to the scad summer seminars in savannah this summer and Troy was one of my professors for the week! I want to attend college there so very badly.
Wasn't he great? He is one of my favorite professors by far! John Webber is another I recommend. I really enjoyed my experiences there and will miss it dearly. I hope you attend. I highly recommend doing a portfolio and showing off your work. I didn't and am paying off the bills now @_@
nice :)... really good stuff. The only thing that really bothers me is when he looks up. His head goes real small, then it pops into a bigger face as he looks up and then back to normal. I dont know if you did this because he was backing up then coming forward to look up or something, but the effect doesnt really work. Its the only part of the animation that bugs me really, the slight deformation :). Head volume is hard to keep but very important in this case cause hes not moving much
oh hey he's pretty adorable. :D i love how you animated the brain falling out of his head! but some points of the animation look a little weird 0:03 his head grows bigger as he looks up, it also grows bigger as he cries. anyway. it is quite good but there's also another common mistake (made by pretty much everyone learning animation at first) too many changes of expression/poses in a short amount of time :] i hope that was helpful XD on the positive,it's extremely smooth! must of been hard work!
lol I completely disagree with you. I think it is snappy and pops into the keyframes...and as far as the expressions go I was happy with that. But I do agree on the hard work part...was very aggravating XD
I know it has alot of problems....but it was my second animation ever other than a bouncing ball...so unless I redo it, it will never be "demo reel" quality...=(
Thanks for the tips tho...maybe someday I will redo it now that I am a...SENIOR!!! yaaay!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. To be honest I would have made it shorter but it had to be 15 seconds no more no less...so I had to do alot of holding poses.
This is my favorite of the animations you have posted. I'm a huge fan of traditional animating. The vast amount of expression really completes it for me, good show!
Sorry, you're mistaken. 2 fps = 2 images, in one second's worth of video. So 30 fps would be 30 images, or frames, per second. This video, which is 24 fps, is thus animated with 24 frames in each second.
Please learn what you're talking about before trying to correct someone. :)
So cool. I love your work on the characters facial expressions.

that was short but sweet. you managed to establish a bit of personality/induviduality within a few seconds. nice work!

YOU MEAN 20+ FPS. 2 fps = 30 images.

he corrected the info already. it had a typo and used to say 2 fps. it's fine now.

I is a gurl =p
Yeah it had a typo..I cant type that is why I draw XD
syminka 3 years ago
You tell 'em! Show 'em what SCAD has been teaching you *yay Troy Gustasfon* =D
That math was kinda weird wasnt it...2 fps=30 images?? That person must animate too. Lord knows we suck at math.
syminka 3 years ago
i meant if it was only 2 fps as the info said and 15 sec long, it would have used 30 images total (obviously not the case).
why did i bother? :/ lol. :D
MOVING ON ...

hey man, i dig that cat test.
the eyeball gag was good, but it's the acting that really sells it. really nice animation, if i may be so bold.

This is actually real nice! Good, solid drawings, nice fluid motion, and all that other "12 principles of animation" stuff. :D
(Yes, I am in this class now. XD)
vangrue 4 years ago
Thank you for the feedback.
And extra points for including the 12 principles of animation =D
What teacher do you have?
syminka 4 years ago
I've got Jacques Khouri. He's fun and generally pretty easy-going, though everyone keeps asking me why I didn't take Troy's class. :D
vangrue 4 years ago
Haha...I was just about to ask that...he is the best teacher ever.i recommend him for character design!!!
