  • When I hear this i'm 17 again, still got the old album but no turntable

  • joe jackson and fools in love ....solid

  • Super cool __ enough irony for a year or more of current pop/rock

  • Don't find this sort of musical talent much anymore

  • Love how Maby's bass just kind of dies out at the end. Fearless. What a classic.

  • @jamo387 Maby is killer,i started using a pick on the bass to try and get his sound

  • still a great record

  • Rock, délicat, bien écrit.Joe connaît la musique, il a taillé son chemin.Et on la rejoint là.

  • Great, GREAT record!!! SO underrated!!!

  • The eighties were full of great song writers like Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, T Heads, Elvis Costello, B-52s, and Joe. My 80s thank them all.

  • @probrojeffro This was 1979 :)

  • Fantastic song :) Just about to have my first child, a little girl, at least I know its different for girls :p

  • Great memories of high school!

  • @gjharris01

    yep!

  • its oddly eerie and sooo evocative of a particular winter in my youth........

  • I'm a big fan. too, still have my tattered vinyl early LP's . For me however i always go back to his brilliant and obviously less commercial album Jumpin' Jive. Its basically a covers album of 1940's louis jordan , glenn miller standards, but that album really.. err swings. Check out the opening to the title song -JJ... you will be trying to jitterbug across the room with the cat or whatever else is handy immediately!

  • I feel like all of his songs are perfect for movie scenes. They are all really catchy.

  • First heard this awesome song on the wonderful movie "Different for Girls" (1996 British film starring Rupert Graves and Steve Mackintosh). I love 1980s music! (That movie has a really good sountrack too!)

  • I think JJ's lyrics are up with Cole Porter and other classic songwriter -- witty and wise and perceptive. Definitely excellence in music for many years.

  • I can remember this song...was in high school.....in my basement on the couch with my girlfriend trying to get some...

  • you're all the same, just different

  • found this song by Joe in about 1983 after the love of my life blew me off, said she loved me but wanted to explore other opportunities...joe help me threw this devistating time...30 years later she called and wanted to try again...

I said its been to long...don't you know that its different for boy's...

  • @MrMarkkee My God man...i've been waiting 11 yrs. for mine to ask me that,i know she's never gonna ask. good for you friend, glad it worked out for ya!

  • We're all the same???

  • @rchalmers3 Yes, I'm afraid it's true ;-)

  • Joe Jackson is the Man!!!Such a great musician...and great songs. It's too bad musical talent has declined so much since the 60s-70s-80s.......

  • This song was on ashes to ashes =) such a good song!!

  • @petaloliver Its because of that show that led me to here. Great show! I'm still on Season 1, I do miss Life on Mars though. lol

  • @petaloliver That's why I'm here too... Gene Hunt, Alex Drake, and a vanful of gnomes and drugs. Great for remembering xD

  • That is a fucking tune.

  • An amazing album, so unheralded and underrated!!!

  • Graham Maby, fantastic bass player

Le 2eme album, celui là, est meilleur que le premier

  • Graham Maby, fantastic bass player

  • Yeah, one of the very best

  • best song fucking ever. elvis costello can suck this one!!!

  • @sophiefrost...I swear I never understood the public's Elvis C hype, other than the cool name. Joe is so much more real and talented. Joe = outstanding artist.

  • What a melancholy song! Not love? It is different for girls...

  • great muscian...saw him a couple of times here and there....his classical music is supurb

  • One of the treasures I can proudly proclaim I stole from my parents. This entire album was done justice by pops audiophile mods.

  • 3 minutes & 45 seconds of bliss. No finer pop song has been written.

  • @aquamarine094 well said

  • @aquamarine094 ..LOVE IT11111

  • @aquamarine094 ..LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @aquamarine094 Yes to the 1st sentence. No to the 2nd ( but still in the top twenty five).

  • @aquamarine094 Never heard this before today . . . and you might be right.

  • Top tune and he looks like Mickey from Only fools and horses!!

  • One of my favorite all time tunes. Great stuff.

  • A brilliant song. Written after the great Elvis Costello stopped writing great songs an Joe Jackson said I'm gonna write me a wonderful song to make up for the lapse in good music since Elvis punked out by turning to Cole Porteresque music.

  • @11xzxzxz ROFLMFAO! xD

  • @Deango2 What does that mean? careful there are ladies on this site.

  • just fantastic. Seen him many years ago in Antwerp. Great artist.

  • just fantastic. Seen him many years ago in Antwerp. Great artist.

  • Great song.

One thing all his best known songs have is a great intro.

  • How did you get the music and this shot together without compromising the sound????? Love to do it with my music...Do tell.

  • If only the complete studio I,m the man album could be put on You Tube.

So weird that it isnt anywhere to be found......

I would love to hear Friday for example.

On the live reordings you totally miss the great base line.

Myself,I am a total misfit as far as technical stuff is concerned(I have the album on vinyl, but dont know how to translate on to You Tube),so could anybody please hear my call?

It would make a lot of fans really happy!

  • In his Day, Joe was not only great sensitive musician, but quite Hilarious. His Shows were fun in a way Rock and Roll wasn't. Is she really- Sunday papers. Great Comic musician JJ

  • cheers joe for a sweeeeeet soundtrack to my childhood!!

  • Wow, i can see where Razorlight get a lot of their inspiration from!

  • This is basically in Gb but goes into another key. The "no not love she said" part uses Gb Abmi Bbmi and A B and C#mi

  • Elvis Costello would like to write music like the great Joe Jackson.

One of the best songwriters in the world and a brilliant musician and the band is fabulous, Graham Maby in the top ten bassists in the world.

  • @travellingirl1 Enfin un qui connait les musiciens (graham maby) !

  • it's better as a joe jackson song

  • Absolute CLASSIC! Love the bassline! :-)

  • @MollyTurbin

    Agreed. Groovy!

  • Yep, still sounding good. XXXX

  • It's different for girls but is it different for sluts? LOVE this song!!!!

  • All his songs are classics! ;p

They really get under you're skin, and are SO catchy!

Always loved this track and "Stepping Out". All his songs sound So different, but brilliant at the same time!

    BRING BACK THE 80'S! ;p

  • My friends and I bought Look Sharp and I'm the Man when they first came out, and we thought we were the coolest, right on top of the music scene dudes...finding this brit who made incredible music ,blending genres, and starting our short lived, pseudo punk phase. In reality, we were fresh faced Orange County boys...but we were right about the music! Still have those on vinyl.

  • his best?...i think so

  • Been lovin this for years, it's still sounding so good! Go Joe!

  • genius.joe jackson is truly a master musician and songwriter of the highest level.been a fan since i saw him on american bandstand.he s been rockin the world since!

  • Joe Jackson is a real, genuine artist.

Check out his book 'A Cure For Gravity'.

  • I've always loved the music that Joe Jackson put out. I heard this song a couple of weeks on XM for the first time and I can't get this song out of my head. Great tune!!!

  • How can't you not smile hearing this. I still walk in a grocery store singng this This is one of those tunes that really personalizes a time in your life. What a great song. .

  • One of the finest musician and songwriters of his generation. Easily on par with any of the more well known of his time.

    Joe Jackson was/is a genius.

  • @pigpen875 great post.......

  • one of my favorite musician songwriter..

  • not an insult there ? good people listening good music ?

  • who makes songs like this anymore? songs that transcend rock, pop, jazz, that make everyone move to tears? it sounds so fresh and flavorful!!

  • i love this song aswell! its a classic

  • This song was from 1979 or 1980.Love Joe Jackson, almost all his songs were awesome. He should have been bigger!

  • he was pretty huge... doesnt really get much bigger. unless you are elvis or prince or something.. Joe Jackson sold millions of records and multi platinum..

  • Sadly he gets confused with Michael Jackson's child abusing dad these days. :(

  • he could have been a lot larger, but he said no to doing mtv music videos, and later alienated his fans by doing classical music.

  • my favorite joe jacksn tune!

  • Classic... now that I'm married..it's different for girls.....not

  • thanks pvt great tune mate

  • LOVE it! One of my dad's favorites!

  • My favorite Joe Jackson song. Omigod, I just love it.

  • i was about 10 when i 1st heard this but i didn't really get the lyrics then, but loved the song anyway, twenty five ish years on i get the lyrics but still don't understand girls! ha, ha.

  • i don't understand boys either and that's after 30 years listening to this song......

  • Joe doing vocals, Maby on bass. Simply awesome. Great song. Great band. Their first 3 albums were groundbreaking- some of the best music of the era along with the clash.

I just love the rich bass and the simple, catchy percussion.

  • Way back when, when I first got this album, I loved this song (and still do) so much that I could never just play it once.

  • Joe Jacksons vocals, combined with Graham Maby on bass, is one of the best musical combo's ever.

  • This is one of the best songs ever made!

  • ...no no love she said.. don't you know that is different for girls....

    ...YOU'RE ALL THE SAME.......

  • I know this whole song by heart- its so awsome! I wish I was alive back then lol

  • This guy is so cool...really takes me back and goes to show how music was....classic !!

  • Love this song to bits, feels like i m 15 again.

    Ta Joe

  • 80's 4 ever

  • THE SONG CAME OUT IN 1979 WHICH SEEMED TO REALLY BE "THE" YEAR 80'S MUSIC STARTED , 1979 HAD SOME AMAZING STUFF.. PEACE p

  • I like the cover of this song by The Feeling.. but I can't find it on here.

  • I'm not too familiar with Joe Jackson -this is the fist song of his I've seriously listened to, shared w/ me by a fellow musician- but I think it really does sound more than a lot like ELVIS C., thus I'm somewhat bothered...I don't mean to diminish J Jackson as I have yet to listen to his music beyond this song

  • I always thought it WAS Elvis C.You live and learn.

  • this has to be my one favourite of joe jacksons!! loved it since it was released many years ago!! used to dance in my bedroom getting ready to go out to the youthclub! conjures up so much for me

  • I like Elvis but I really enjoy Joe's versatility, musical depth and sensitive lyrics..Its like he always take me on a musical journey..Very fresh..My Elvis CDs are well worn but now collect dust while Joes are always somewhere in the rotation bin...not sure why....

  • goood song :)

  • H. want to be sure we want the same thing... who said anything about love

  • Heard this on the radio today and had to plug headphones in to hear song LOUD. Was shocked to hear DJ say 'Joe Jackson' and not Elvis Costello!!! OMG... i am the only one on this planet who thought this was a Elvis-Costello song? i've been thinking this for many yrs.

    Brilliant song!!!!

  • Different vocals but it does sound like it could be an Elvis Costello song.

  • I've heard Jackson described as 'Elvis Costello-lite'. Not fair and not remotely true but they were both writing angsty, unsucessful-in-love-and-bitter-about-it stuff at about the same time.

I actually find Jackson the more accomplished musician, but there's plenty of people who disagree with me.

  • I don't.

  • I've found my right *Girl* Thanks for this *sweetie* I prefer this is much better than Ellvis Costello.Good song.XXX

  • @insut07 Yes. LOL. Only kidding. I agree, Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson do have a familiar sound to their voices. Ain't it funny how we can believe something for so long only to find out the truth years later just by chance. Song lyrics get me like that sometimes.

  • @insut07 your not the one...

  • @insut07 Joe and Elvis are quite similar in their writing and singing styles, and actually image, neither of them conform to stereotypical pop star good looks - they have also both experimented with various different styles of music. Both are quite brilliant.

  • @insut07 - I never thought this was Elvis Costello, but I always think of one when I think of the other. They kinda go hand in hand in some way. :)

  • mickey pearce

  • He always was a great lyricist. This one shows insight and sensitivity....very different for it's time period...nothing to rival it today.

  • its so hard to choose, but i believe thats my favorite joe jackson song. Thanks so much for posting

  • I'd have to agree. :)

  • "You caaaaan't possible mean it!" Good song;)
