  • Lots of butter and then thin vegemite but in chunks in some areas and you have to put on literally straight away after toast pops up - I even put my second piece back down while I make my first piece - it's gotta be all melted and soggy!! Yum yum yum!!!

  • at least know how to put chopping board first... Haha

  • I've tried, I can't do it! I even had it prepared by my husband's Australian uncle! Maybe it's an aquired taste.

  • I love Vegemite- My friend came over to the states on Holiday, and taught me to eat it just like you prepared it.... I loved it. I like to spread it a bit thicker now... but it is great stuff!

  • Vegemite=Soylent Green

  • Toast, cheese, vegemite, and lettuce sandwich is my favorite! And for the haters out there... I am an American! :D

  • Yes! And then maybe you Americans will stop making fun of vegimite!!!

  • What about Vegemite pasta? I love Vegemite pasta :L

  • personally i like it smothered on real heavy (around 1.5 Tablespoons), but for a first time eater, especially if your not from Australia, lots of butter and dab the Vegemite on.

  • Marmite is much tastier with butter than thick crap vegemite.

  • there is no proper way to eat vegemite..

But i eat it in spoonfulls. nomnom.

  • Are you Australian

  • YES! People from other countries alway smear on vegemie like its butter or something, but the truth is, you only need a TINY bit, as well as butter.

  • Is it also true that Fosters isn't Australian for beer?

  • i love u

  • Or if you do spread it on like peanut butter, make sure to have something else with it. Avocado or cheese usually goes well.

  • That's not how you do it.

You take margerine or butter, spread it on the toast then take Vegemite and chuck in the bin.

  • What is vegemite anyway? Is it veggies? Is it mites? As an american, I will probably never get to find out. i go to the store,fINALLY I FOUND VEGEMITE, , somebody comes up and says, AUSSIES HAVE HORRIBLE TASTE, DONT GET IT!

and really, i WAS SCARRED BY THAT EXPERIENCE.

  • @4peaceoutgirl it's mostly made from yeast.

  • I've always wondered what does vegemite taste like.

  • @mercyhurstchic death and destruction

  • YUMMY!

  • Is it vegan? Cuz I think I'd like to try it if I can find it.

  • I cant get past the fact that a single serving of Vegemite has quite a bit MORE than the recommended DAILY allowance of sodium.

I just tried Vegemite for the first time last night. It was like eating salt paste.

  • i tried it tasted the same o_o

  • the real way to have vegemite, as I was shown by two queenslanders, toast 1 bit of bread, use vegemite instead of margarine, then place cheese over the top, and put one piece of untoasted bread on top of that. its unbeatable.

  • ugh i am craving for this!

  • It's true that vegemite on its own isn't that tasty. But it isn't "vegemite" that people like, it's "vegemite mixed with butter or margarine" that people like. You need to apply vegemite in "dabs" on top of a generous spread of butter or margarine in order to appreciate what a taste sensation this humble, American-owned Aussie invention is all about. Both the butter and vegemite must cover the entire piece of bread or toast right up to the edges. Enjoy.

  • VEGEMITE IS SHIT!

  • Can someone tell me. What exactly is vegemite and why is it popular?

  • that was the worst spread peice of vegemite toast ive ever seen! its better if you spread all the way to the edges.

  • i like vegemite and i am italian :) i made 2 video about vegemite

  • The problem with Americans is they are so used to having their food filled with high fructose corn syrup that they can't take the bitter taste or marmite, probably why bud light is so popular the wimpy version or a wimpy beer.

As an american who has lived in new zealand for the better part of 15 years Vegemite has really grown on me and I spread it properly as well.

  • i just but some butter onto the sandwich without spreading it, then i add the vegemite to it, spreading them together. saves time and it tastes better

  • What is it made from?

  • Butter is a *must*, Vegemite doesn't taste all too good if it's by itself on toast IMO. x) I was able to get a nice little jar of Vegemite here in the States, in a "world market" where they sell foods, furniture, and novelty items imported from different countries. I think I'll try this with some cheese next...

  • I just tried Vegemite for the first time on a piece of toast and butter, it's delicious!

  • always with butter not that fake stuff

  • Worst thing I did as a kid was have a lot of it, put off ever since.

  • hell no. At least an inch thick

  • I'm American and I started eating Vegemite about 10 years ago. I can't get enough of it! Seriously addictive.

  • im eating vegemite on a muffin with margarine, hash brown, mushrooms and onion. i call it the breakfast special. XD btw im an aussie

  • can you buy vegemite or marmite in most local american grocrey stores, like kroger? and if so, what section would it be in?

  • @TheSilverTails Try Meijers. They sell just about EVERYTHING. :P A few years ago, I was buying biscotti at Krogers. They don't sell it any more. I don't know what grocers do besides Meijers. They have just about every food imaginable in their international aisle. It really is amazing. I just bought marmite for the first time tonight. I'm still putting off trying it (for the first time). LOL

  • ....I put way more than that on. Actually, my whole family does. And it is delicious.

  • Could you use butter instead of margarine?

  • @K454R1 Yes! Butter or Margarine is your preference. Just as long as you use Vegemite :)

  • @BoredOfScience Thank you very much for your response! My uncle is from Australia but I haven't eaten Vegemite since I was like 10! :D

  • @BoredOfScience ok say I have veggie-mite, can I substitute it with peanut butter?

  • i like vegemite with creamcheese on a seasme bagle. and yes i am american

  • He didn't even eat the whole peace of buttered shit

  • @anditl21 Yes. I did.

  • @BoredOfScience Are you also mrmagniciful on youtube? You sound just like him. I spread my vegemite on kind of thick lol, I love the stuff.

  • @anditl21 it's piece not peace dumbass

  • I tried vegemite today for the first time and I must say, I like it! Just wondering do you Aussies only eat it with butter, because I think it mite be good with some cheese too

  • @vincem00 cheese goes well with it. Cheese goes well with everything. Im going to watch a video about cheese.

  • got to taste better than Bovril?

  • actually looks tasty

  • Wow I don't even know what Vegemite is, but I love Ausssies =)

  • Just wondering but what is vegemite?

  • @hi10191995

it's salted yeast extract. tastes horrible, i think only aussies & british like it.

  • well, that is better than what some people have done. yes i am talking to you shane dawson! basically, to all you non-aussies out there that think they know everything about vegemite, just letting you know it's all about getting your ratios right. if it tastes too strong then you've got too much. just be thankful that it's not as salty as it apparently used to be before they "dumbed it down" if you don't mind me quoting my mother.

  • Less is more. Remember that Vegemite is only marginally less strong than Thermite. Oh and when trying for the first time use a hot toasted crumpet, spread some butter (not margerine) on the crumpet and then add about the equivalent of a 20 cent piece's worth of Vegemite. if you are American and use more than this make sure your health insurance is up to date. Only real Australians are sufficiently conditioned to handle that degree of Vegemite.

  • @PWBERRETT Had Vegemite grilled cheese sandwiches when I was a kid and I'm from Canada... Can't find the stuff anywhere these days, I'd love to get my kids to taste it!

  • this taste like sour death

  • yeah, this video is for dumb americans

  • im american indian in america...i like the shit...but even better if you put a slice of cheese on there mate

  • Margarine??

    Blasphemy!

    BUTTER!!

    Shalom

    Hermann

  • @hermanninator I agree entirely. Butter is better. And on a hot toasted crumpet too.

  • Still tastes like death.

  • too much vegemite try scrapes, but good bloke.

  • I did this just the same....I threw up..... I kinda tastes like....... Rotten death (like if u watched ian is bored) :s

  • I tried this........ I almost threw up....

  • you need butter not margarineee ewwww

  • americans and vegemite. it's always a facepalm situation. don't eat it with a spoon. it's like salt, a little bit goes a long way. would you eat a teaspoon of salt? yeah same thing. ofcourse it taste shit straight lol. people might like it if they knew how to use it correctly lol. spread it like this guy..or thinner.. keep thinning it out until it taste good.. choose your own butter to vegemite ratio and you'll find the magic spot lol.

  • The best way to eat vegemite is to take the unopened jar, walk over to the bin, open bin and drop jar in the bin and walk away rapidly.!!!!

  • @mcquart ur comment made me laugh :) thank you.

  • you have to use butter not margarine cause that stuff is gross and it must be as soon as u get the toast out of the toaster so it is all melted and gooey then u put the thin layer of veg on right away and enjoy it is an aquired taste yes you need to just keep trying it and dont expect it to taste like chocolate either like a lot of people do cause it is nothing like chocolate

  • I just tried it, exactly as you said, but I can't say I enjoyed the experience. I can see now what people mean when they say it's an acquired taste.

  • @CAJim2 If by acquired you mean delicious... I completely agree

  • @BoredOfScience It is the greatest spread of all time.

  • @BoredOfScience By acquired he means when your live turns to shit and your forced to live off the stuff to survive

  • i came from australia 1 month ago and brought vegemite with me, and now i enjoy making pranks with my friends

all of us agree that tastes like shit

  • best way to have vegemite is put the marg on straight after its toasted so it melts into the bread (spread it all the way to the sides... none of this in the middle crap, nice and thick too) then dollop on a large amount (i go about a tablespoon) of vegemite right in the middle and squash it out but dont spread it evenly cause the bursts of the mite when your eating it is the best part :D or just eat it off the spoon and stop being fancy lolol

  • Thanks man. I bought some vegemite the other day and it was incredibly expensive. I'd never had it so I decided to try it on bread. Needless to say...It tasted like spreadable soy sauce. I was going to try a grilled cheese with some vegemite but I think I'll just try this.

  • it tastes sooo fucking gross

  • NO BUTTER NO BUTTER NO BUTTER NO BUTTER

  • anybody know where to find this in the US? more specifically new york city?

  • hm... looks like diarrhea sandwich :D

  • Im puertorican ,and this stuff i love just like heaven.

  • Mate im an aussie vegemite vet and thats not how you spread vegemite lol

  • @rav3nbird lol

  • @ph0t0r0d I know that is exactly what I was thinkin through the whole thing!

Otherwise good vid. It should be salty.

  • Vegimite rules! I absolutely love it! Great breakfast, makes you feel great too. I like it on a rye cracker (or crisp, depending on your nationality) with some margerine. Actually better than bacon, seriously! Don't understand how anyone can talk about it like it's some leper's three day old moldy diarrhea. Just do what this guy says and you'll love it. Well done Australia, nice to see something without corn syrup, yellow #5, red lake, trans fat, pharmacuticals, David Bowies duck butter..

  • Thanks!

    ( 2 )

I just bought some. Couldn't really afford the $6 but I was so surprised to see it and I felt I owed Australia an apology on behalf of all sane men (It IS an Aussie icon...). I myself am a product of the fine English Savannah Georgia penal colony USA, and Vegimite can't be as bad as Beefarino in a can...So maybe, just maybe, I can 'send it down' without any 'Return Postage'. So.... 'Br'upp!!!', and again, sorry about that legal jack hole stuff about folates. Cheers.

  • Thanks!

    ( '1' )

They actually outlawed...that's right-Outlawed.....(I'll pause here for you to think that one through because they didn't) Vegimite here in the states for a short while!!! Why? Because it contains Folate (A form of Vitamin B), and there is some obscure (i.e. 'Mental') law that forbids it in any food other than cereals... Obviously they repealed that law (It is something of an Aussie icon...) after all the outrage from Aussies and Yanks alike ( see 2)

  • i'm italian and i like vegemite

  • You can't learn to like vegemite. It's something that is harcoded into the genes of all Australians, and henceforth nobody, sadly, can ever like it if they weren't born here.

    True story.

  • is it like Marmite o.o?

  • That is totally wrong, dude, you didn't spread it to the edges!!!

  • I like to spread it all over me fingers on one hand, sometimes with a little nuts. Then I reach underneath the stall at a public bathroom and say "excuse me, may i hav some paper?"

serously tho, my friend just returned from aus and brought me back some vegemite. I'm so happy!

  • What does it taste like?

  • @djkissbird deliciousness...

  • @djkissbird Very salty at first once you try it, but after you get used to the saltiness, you start to taste the savoury flavour. I love the stuff

  • @djkissbird ......marmite

  • @djkissbird like salty butter with special interestin flavour

  • thank god for this guy, now i can enjoy the vegemite that i just bought at world market. quick question, is vegemite or marmite better?

  • @bunchalinks vegemite.. no question about it..

though i prefer it with butter.. and i spread it thinly... in my opinion, if it starts burning your throat and makes you want to gag, its too thick. It should by salty. but not all happy and light.. its like its evil and deadly and dark... and just so damn delicious

    mmmmm eating vegemite right now...

  • woot, British tips for americans

  • @MrNicktheparakeet British tips? BRITISH?!

  • @BoredOfScience oh ok

  • @BoredOfScience AUSTRALIAN DAMN IT hahahahahhaha

  • @MrNicktheparakeet Actually Australian....

  • i-snack 2.0 is really gwd but i like the real vegemite more

  • first time I tried vegemite I just put it on toast and I hated it. then a real aussie prepared it with butter, cheese and fuck it was amazing

  • @SwordPlay2 At last.. somebody understands....!

  • So vegemite tastes so bad you only want a thin layer of it? Okay.

  • @jake44514

No, you just don't want to overdo it - You don't chomp big bites out of a stick of butter, do you?

  • i tried it in barcelona, there were some aussies in our hostel and i must say you can't possibly like it the first time you try it :D it tastes like.. god theres no way to explain haha!

  • vegemite is awesome i grew up on it to New Zealand

  • I don't know why people don't like it

I grew up on it, it's delicious

    NZ

  • It is like miso paste. You have to drown it is bread/butter.

  • The BEST way to eat vegemite (and Im aussie,so my recommendation is official)Follow these instructions:

    1.Butter some sliced white bread

2.Spread very thin layer of Vegemite

3.Top with a slice of cheddar cheese(or cheese of ur choice)

4.Throw under th grill til cheese melts

5.Enjoy the hell out of it..YUM!

like this guy sed, thin spread of vegemite is essential.Too much can b overbearing 4 those not used to the taste.and please buy the Kraft one,not the imitations(like mitey mite or sum crap)

  • Vegemite with cheese is indeed haven...

With regards to imitations... ESPECIALLY do not buy Marmite. No matter what the English and Kiwis may say, Marmite pales in comparison with Vegemite...

  • @BoredOfScience

the only similar product i've tried that i like is Bovril.. it's still not the same though.. as it's made from beef I guess.. and more syrupy.. still quite nice though

  • @pitykid I love it on dark bread!

  • Take it from an aussie the best way to eat vegemite is lots of butter and a LITTLE vegemite.ok!!

  • @dmcguire70 Spot on

  • You eat ciggarette ash? xD

  • I sure would like a jar of Vegemite. I don't know of anywhere to get it here in the states. Never had it myself, but I'm almost positive I would find it quite superb.

  • hahaha do people really spread it like all over ? haha that explains why people hate it so much.. Yummmmy i wont some now :D love vegemite toast!!!

  • "that's edible and bloody brilliant as well" you said it!

  • let me guess you found out the hard way?

  • I'd completely understand if thats the way they found out. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and the first thing I wanna do is shag my jar of vegemite...

  • haha prolly

  • Comment removed

  • Ohhhh!!! It must taste good like this.

I'm from Ukraine and my science teacher from australia gave me to try vegemite and put 0.4 cm thick layer on my bread. I bit off half of it and it was horrible only because it felt too salty.

I had a stomach ache after that. Now I will know how much of it should I use ^.^

    Thanks for this video.

P.S. Is this paste quite healthy or something?

  • Its full of B vitamens! =D

  • pussy we eat it from the jar

  • Fuck you

  • thank god someone is educating the americans well done mate

  • Mine came today, ordered it from ebay. Not easy for us Americans to find. Taking the horror stories into account, I was careful with the amount and expected something close to what I tasted, so it worked out pretty good for me. Tastes like ramen noodle seasoning, a bit cheesy and of vitamins. Pretty good already, though.

I liked it just fine even without butter on crackers.

  • Ramen, nor vegemite contain any valuable amount of any kind of nutrient. They're pure table salt.

  • Vegemite has a substantial amount of B vitamins, but much like ramen I think the reason behind eating it isn't health.

  • Vegemite is full of vitamin B not just salt and it is made from yeast extract as for Ramen i never heard of it

  • I live in California, and I buy my vegemite from Cost Plus World Market... =)

  • Thank you for enlightening me. I just purchased some Vegemite and lathered in on peanut butter style. I promptly gagged into the sink. I'll have to give this another go with far less Vegemite.

  • i wanna try it so bad. Is there anyway i can order it to the US?

  • There are a lot of sites on the web that sell Vegemite; e-bay is another place you can get it. I love it!

And he is so right! You must spread it very thinly or otherwise it'll be way too strong and salty.

  • awesome, thank you =]

  • He still puts on more than I would. I like that 2.5 to 1 ratio Ryelle suggests.

  • ummm...whats vegemite?

  • Nah too much for Americans. They are still adverse to this much. A ratio that I have found works well is 2.5 marg to 1 vegemite.

  • Halleleuiah! The right way =] I go to the edges but it's all about personal preference. Thanks for the making the video I never got around to making: How to eat it the RIGHT way =] 5 Stars
