In order for DOMA to get on the books it had to be presented to the judges so they can look it over and determine if it is a legal document or not. They had determined it to be legal. So, now the same judges are saying oops we made a mistake? My guess is New York somehow got the judges from California to work for them.

@Balsology When they offer money to the politicians if it passes I believe that is called BRIBERY. And if it didn't pass they threatened to make their life miserable which I believe is called caving to threats. SO, how about passing a law an honest way? Yup, won't happen. Mr Balsology, there was PLENTY to gain.

@AquaCarb And I will answer that (I've changed my mind): I agree, money shouldn't be the purpose of getting legislation passed. However, it is consistantly Republicans who vote against campaign reform. This is an example of people using the system against the politicans who vote to keep it.
The Doners said: "We donate to you, so you will vote for this bill. If you don't, we will not support you (financially) and we will support (financially) candidates against you. It's not bribery at all.

@AquaCarb Did you even read you're answer? GAY MARRIAGE IS ALLOWED IN ONLY 6 STATES ALLOW GAY MARRIAGE...and you're telling me they already had the right to? No they didn't. Thats why this law had to be passed.
In the sense of the GOVERNMENT marriage SHOULD BE redefined, as NY has done, so that Gay's can be married. It is YOUR opinion that Gay marriage is wrong, and that of your religions. But congress should not respect any establishment of religion over any other view of things.

@AquaCarb Politicians cave because they know they're wrong, because the people OVERWHELMINGLY support a decision. The majority of this country used to believe that Blacks should not have the right to vote, THE MAJORITY. But brave progressives challenged that on every front, and now that is no longer so. Gay marriage is the EXACT same issue. DISCRIMINATION against a person for something completely arbitrary to the law.

@Balsology Too funny. Making this a civil rights issue is just another of the many lies created to try and make Gay Marriage and issue. Gays had the SAME rights already. You could already vote before 1990 so it isn't the exact same thing. Politicians caved because of money. The other was corrupt judges.

@AquaCarb ...this is a civil rights issue...Gay's are not allowed to get married in a CIVIL, GOVERNMENTAL manner because there are those who 'believe' it isn't right. ABSOLUTELY this is a civil rights issue, only six states allow civil unions for gays. ONLY SIX. THEY DO NOT have equal rights. THEY CANNOT have power of attorney, tax benefits for families etc...except in those six states. 110% this is a civil rights issue. How is that a 'lie' I'm curious...

@Balsology Oh, a it is a civil union? I thought it was a "marriage"? Ok, so change the laws so you have the things listed? I think most people would accept a civil union as opposed to calling it a gay marriage. People should have the right to enter into contract with whom ever they want. Civil union lets those who choose not to have a religious ceremony still get hitched and leave the word marriage to those who wish to have the religious part.

@AquaCarb Yes. Only six states allow civil unions to gays, but you must understand what their issued is called a "marriage license" because that is what the Federal Government calls the union between two peoples. They call it 'gay marriage' because Marriage is a nebulous term in government, and stories such as this. The bill was to allow civil unions between gays, to give them right. But People often interchange the word marriage, because the government does recognize CU equal to marriage.

@AquaCarb previously in NY Gays weren't even allowed to get Civil Unions (ie married). They're not saying they're entitled to a religious ceremony, their saying their entitled to the be recognized equally in government as a
