  • Watching the video brought back memories of my first organ lessons, in 1963 while studying in Edinburgh. My teacher was the organist at St. Mary's and I practiced for awhile on the Willis organ until I was removed to the choir school to use the small two manual organ you can see in the video.

  • Being a choristor is not an activity. It is a state.

  • I think this really good singing .

  • Are they having 32 bombard as i know there is no Room for the organ pipes to be installed and before they can install it . the organ needs a rebuilt and cleaning. As i no they are not planning to do that for the next few months or next year or year after

  • The Father willis Organ At the cathedral I do understand they are Going to have a Bombarde 32 installed Sometime This Year

  • also simon is director of music at St Marys RC catholic cathedral is he not? Im confused because this is the Episcopal cathedral they are talking about!

  • Thanks for writing. Simon Nieminski was organist and choirmaster at St Mary's (Scottish Episcopal) Cathedral on Palmerston Place, Edinburgh, when this video was made. Early in 2008, Simon changed jobs, and moved across town. Now he is organist of St Mary's Metropolitan Cathedral (Roman Catholic) in Edinburgh. There is a video of Simon playing the new pipe organ at "the Met" Cathedral in Edinburgh, also on this Midnight Pipes channel. - FH

  • Stanford was born in Glasthule parish, Dublin. I'm organist there on a magnificent romantic organ which he knew!

  • indeed very well put together

  • Excellent introduction and documentary to what goes on before the service. Totally professional!

  • nice 1

  • Very well put together

  • what an interesting documentary.

not least featuring a rehearsal of sir hubert parry's 'hear my words ye people'; one of the most glorious anthems within the anglican church.

wish we could hear the whole anthem including the brilliant 'baroque' solo.

imo, sir hubert is the most brilliant composer of the last century. his devotional compositions quite outstanding for their nobility, humanity, humility and kindness.they say he was a very kind and nice man; and it shows and shines all the time.
