Man, when those 45's carrying this awesome tune got installed in the local jukeboxes, I was around 13 or 14 and we spent a King's ransom listening to it all day while making eyes at pretty girls, smokin' weed, drinking Cokes, eating french fries smothered with gravy. Those were the times that I love most, and I believe it's because of the magnificence of the music of the era. Those jukeboxes, you could ram money in them for hours, hear hit after hit, without hearing the same one twice...sigghhh.

It's actually a song about someone's who's brother lost his sight due to exposure to agent orange in the Vietnam war. He's now lost faith in his country, and is "heaving for Spain" to live a better life.. The original lyrics fill out the details better, but Elton cut them short to fit his song/melody.

Actually the song was written by Bernie Taupin. About a fictious character who returns from the Vietnam war blind and just wants to be left alone so he takes off to his favorite vacation spot--Spain.

Watching the evening during the war is what insprired Bernie Taupin to create Daniel.
