She simplified the ponches at the end of the video. They are supposed to be done from a pique with no support. By far the best rose adagio I've seen is darcy bussels. Check hers out and you'll see what I mean

What on earth is your problem? So she doesn't have a lot of expresion, who cares. All she cares about is looking like a rythmic gymnast and being perfect. It is hard to do that and act and have a certain "magic" all at the same time. She is still talented, but doesn't cause any emotional response in me.

the problem is that this is the Mariinsky reconstruction of Petipa's original 1890 production. I attended a performance w Zakharova in this production @ the Mariinsky, & most of the audience was appalled at the way in which she handled this role. Of course she was much younger then & younger dancers are almost always obsessed w/ technique above all else. She danced like a rhythmic gymnist en pointe than a Ballerina & one could not help but think that Maestro Petipa was turning over in his grave

everyone that dances at beckysue's backwater ballet company in the stix needs to stop saying the top dancers aren't "conveying emotion." there is an artistic director who has them do what they do, and it's usually lovely.

PART ONE:

So what if Aurora or Giselle Or Odette can break her back or lift her leg so high you'd think there was someone above her pulling a rope attached to her ankle? If she cannot make the audience believe that she is who she's trying to portray then she has, in a sense, failed because she hasn't emotionally connected with the character.

It's not about how many times you can pirouette en pointe or if you can balance like no body's business (although I'm not saying these are not things you should aspire to). Story ballets are about the emotional connections.

And here's the thing, when it comes to beautiful, emotional story ballets like these and all you are is a ballerina with perfect technique, I have to ask the question: "What's the point?"

Too controlled, and she poses more than she moves--it's very hard to see how she connects the dots. She has better balancing than Alina Cojocaru, but not the aura of irrepressible happiness that the latter exudes. Svetlana hardley ever looks at her suitors!
