Zakharova inigualable!!!
Any one know why she switched from the Marinyski Ballet to the Bolshoi Ballet? Also does anyone know why the Kirov Ballet changed their name to the Marinsky Ballet?
I think if you saw her live you'd think she had expression. She's too good and well trained to be bad, lol. What I mean is...she has plenty of time to think about expression - I'm SURE she puts her all into it.
this is amazing. her extensions. i love watching her but i hate it at the same time lol even though this is amazing, no one can beat alina cojocaru's rendition of aurora. shes amazing.
i disagree, although many people like alina's rendition, i find i am not captivated at all when i see her rendition...i dont feel a good stage presence from her...
She simplified the ponches at the end of the video. They are supposed to be done from a pique with no support. By far the best rose adagio I've seen is darcy bussels. Check hers out and you'll see what I mean
ur allowed to say u don't like her, but u can't say that she is horrible because she is absolutely amazing and she wouldn't be on stage if she wasn't.
KBbrown you know nothing. what the f is wrong with you. you probebly know nothing about ballet or any thing. i mean i want you to go on that stage and dance that adagio and see if you can do better. i bet you cant. your probebly the worst thing that ballet has ever hapend too. the kirov ballet is the best in the world. your just to dume to see that.
What on earth is your problem? So she doesn't have a lot of expresion, who cares. All she cares about is looking like a rythmic gymnast and being perfect. It is hard to do that and act and have a certain "magic" all at the same time. She is still talented, but doesn't cause any emotional response in me.
if no one liked her dancing, she wouldn't be on stage. didn't you think of that? you can't expect technique to stay in one place forever. it has to progress. if people can find ways to make our bodies do even more, it will be the norm. margot fonteyn was great, in her time. svetlana zakharova is great in our time.
the problem is that this is the Mariinsky reconstruction of Petipa's original 1890 production. I attended a performance w Zakharova in this production @ the Mariinsky, & most of the audience was appalled at the way in which she handled this role. Of course she was much younger then & younger dancers are almost always obsessed w/ technique above all else. She danced like a rhythmic gymnist en pointe than a Ballerina & one could not help but think that Maestro Petipa was turning over in his grave
everyone that dances at beckysue's backwater ballet company in the stix needs to stop saying the top dancers aren't "conveying emotion." there is an artistic director who has them do what they do, and it's usually lovely.
LOL, great comment. But you have to admit that even within the league of top dancers, some outclass others. But I don't think it hardly ever has to do with 'conveying emotion'
i must disagree with you dancelivelove24! and most of you. svetlana is amazing! i just saw her in sleeping beauty, LIVE and it was the most beautiful ballet i've ever seen. tech. AND expression. i think she fit the role perfectly
So what if Aurora or Giselle Or Odette can break her back or lift her leg so high you'd think there was someone above her pulling a rope attached to her ankle? If she cannot make the audience believe that she is who she's trying to portray then she has, in a sense, failed because she hasn't emotionally connected with the character.
It's not about how many times you can pirouette en pointe or if you can balance like no body's business (although I'm not saying these are not things you should aspire to). Story ballets are about the emotional connections.
And here's the thing, when it comes to beautiful, emotional story ballets like these and all you are is a ballerina with perfect technique, I have to ask the question: "What's the point?"
Too controlled, and she poses more than she moves--it's very hard to see how she connects the dots. She has better balancing than Alina Cojocaru, but not the aura of irrepressible happiness that the latter exudes. Svetlana hardley ever looks at her suitors!
wonderful technique... but she not "feeling" Aurora... not i totally see what my teacher was saying about my performance T_T... how do i interpret marie/clara from nutcracker !!!
she can certainly give us all a class in technique. she IS without a doubt an excellent technician. whether she is able to interpret ANY role..is different story! any one can recite "hamlet" few are able to carry him off.
LOL THEY GAG!

her interpretation seems a bit too stuffy for aurora. it didnt seem very youthful.

It's a quality here that you can follow the reactions of the audience. She is really a true ballerina assoluta.

This is a terrible adagio. Zakharova and Somova are two of the worst things to hit ballet in a long long long time. Shit, absolute shit.
