  • This performance was recorded probably few weeks before Nigel Preston's infamia........

  • Great rock voice & cool song, seems more musically adventurous than their later simple rock band sound

  • I saw them at Barrowlands (Glasgow) not long after this and Nigel (The Drummer) played the entire gig in a pair of brown Y-Fronts - I shit you not!! Such a shame he slipped of the mortal coil not long afterwards. And I agree with the earlier comments about the killer bassline :)

  • Brilliant bassline!!

  • I love the early Cult stuff like this and spiritwalker... Kind of gothic and surrealistic feeling mixed with the bluesy voice of Ian Astbury...

And the white falcon must be the coolest guitar ever... :D

  • that's a wicked bass line.

  • Electric is gay-bar music. Electric is a music execs idea of what rock ought to be/sound like whereas this, this is pure, original rock as a god somewhere, possibly Ian, intended it to be.

  • @64Born following the Love album they wanted a harder edge but the good effort in the mannor sessions ended up giving way to the sound on Electric.

Songs like conquistador and all souls avenue were an indication of what could have been another psychedelic hard rock album.....sad

  • Man, I always love it when the singer goes to play some token guitar part and they just make a bunch of noise!

  • This was before they began to suck

  • They surpassed all of this with the love album. One of the greatest albums of all time. Electric makes this look like gay bar music! lol

  • Much better than U2.

  • I went to 11 dates consecutively on the Love UK tour. Great days. Dreamtime is one of my fave albums to this day.

  • Cool example of how The Cult always fused various cultural elements in their music and image.

  • Nigel Preston always looked like he was shiting himself.Great drummer though R.I.P

  • This is awesome. One of my favorite Cult songs!

  • This the RESURRECTION of NIGEL PRESTON

  • perhaps their finest moment.

it all went a bit rubbish after this

    shame

  • Respectfully disagreeing w/u, bowbergene, but Sonic Temple is one of the top Brit rock albums of all time, IMO. ST also made The Cult kind of accidental pioneers for the grunge/90s alt-rock sound, along w/acts like Neil Young.

  • Excellent the cult were great back then rather than just a run of the mill 'rawk ' band!

  • Great band, great song, pure cult song...love it!

  • lol, nice glasses. i also find the whistle funny for some reason

  • Man, that show animal!

Thanks for posting and have the opportunity to see this wonder!

    embrace of a Brazilian!

    Peace to all

  • He's doing some plucking there but otherwise lots of digging in with the pick and plenty of chorus effect. Awesome bass riff.

  • I was working at the jetport

  • CFFC!

  • can someone please tell me what kind of guitar ian astburys playing?

  • Ok. For starters: Ian Astbury is the singer/frontman for The CULT, whilst Billy Duffy is the (lead) guitarist of the band whom strums sooo masterfully a Gretsch white Falcon.

  • ian is also holding a guitar. so what is it?

  • it's a 12string vox teardrop guitar.

  • It is that guitar Billy is playing in the revolution video

  • shit man they were really ill back then. great style

  • Bloody hell this takes me back! Fantastic bass line and drums. Classic Cult, never to be beaten in my humble view.

  • indeed this was a strang release, when i first heard it a thought what a masterpiece, still do now

  • as a bass player this my favourite bass line ever...Jamie Stewart was seriously underated

  • under presure ,by queen is also a nice bass line(im a guitar player)

  • Brillant. This is genius and taste. This song is a masterpiece. In those years was created the most brillant music than always. Punk, post punk, new wave, gothic...after 1985 only shit! such a sadness...

  • Such a tight performance! Such a weird single to release too, as it is not really indicative of anything they did prior to, or after this single. Love Billy's sound in this and Nigel's drums at 2:10 secs. I posted this clip a while ago but for some reason it was removed by youtube, good luck with this one!

  • Wow, a stunning live performance of my very favorite Cult song. What an awesome band they were at that point. I just wish somebody would've knocked that whistle out of Ian's mouth, though.

  • This song was not on any album, released as a single only. Nigel Preston is on drums and was actually sacked just as 'Love' was being made, only managing to appear on 'Sanctuary' from that album. Mark Brseicki (something like that) from Big Country drummed on all other 'Love' tracks.

  • Great stuff! I videod this when it was on the old grey whistle test! I lost it and have been looking through my old vids for it for ages.... Thanks. John.

  • Awesome! What album is this song on?

  • Not on the original vinyl Dreamtime LP but it found its way onto the CD in 1986.

  • one of their best - ever

  • Incredible how Astbury's voice grew from the angry growl of SDC to this classic sound period. One of my fave from The Cult. Thanks for the posting

  • I think that's Mark from Big Country on drums...Billy that Gretsch White Falcon was awsome. If this is really live it's bloody good :)

  • its nigel preston on drums

  • No..Nigel Preston is on drums..he was canned shortly after Love.

  • One of the great unsung bass lines of all time...well done Jamie

  • Now That's What You Call Rare!

  • Superb! Live on Whistle Test, ahhh the good 'ol days! F*** X-Factor!!
