I just want to say a genuine criticism of Christianity would be actually reading the bible and trying to falsify it rather than judging it by the people who claim to be Christians. They are human beings with their own purposes.
I don't understand the point or benefit of atheism. Even if you don't believe in the deeper aspects of religion, religion at least provides a moral guideline for your life.
Moral guidelines are often sourced through social contracts and logic, not religion. The contractarian philosophies have had a huge influence on western culture and law, for example. Plus, much of moral code is instinctual among social animals, including us: ground squirrels call out to warn their kin of encroaching predators, at their own peril. There is no *point* to atheism, and adherence to religion merely due to cost/benefit is antithetical to many currently popular religions anyway.

Moral guidelines are often sourced through social contracts and logic, not religion. The contractarian philosophies have had a huge influence on western culture and law, for example. Plus, much of moral code is instinctual among social animals, including us: ground squirrels call out to warn their kin of encroaching predators, at their own peril. There is no *point* to atheism, and adherence to religion merely due to cost/benefit is antithetical to many currently popular religions anyway.

My beliefs have evolved. As I have looked into the accuracy and historical proof behind the Bible I have become more and more convinced that it is true. The ones who are not evolving, or being progressive, are those who have decided that the Bible and Christianity are wrong. People like Richard Dawkins cling to their beliefs with no evidence. Yet people like me are belittled in spite of having evidence on our side. Oh well, you can't really force someone to accept the truth.

He had a pretty good response. I loved your rant but a couple things. Jesus did exist, his divinity didn't just as God doesn't. Santa existed as well. He was a canonized saint named Bishop Nicholas who had contact with vikings which is why some made the claim that he is Odin.

No-one's really certain that Jesus did exist, but it is possible, and as you say, the supposed divinity is just an exaggeration. There were plenty of wandering prophets back then, so this Jesus person could just be a composite of all the others that started out sort of like the Great Wall of India idea from the Ender's Shadow series (I think it's in Shadow of the Hegemon, an idea started by Virlomi by saying they had this thing elsewhere and everyone imitating it).

Many names, or many people. Anyways. I'm finishing re-reading Shadow of the Hegemon, and it's looking like it's the sequel, Shadow Puppets, that has the Great Wall of India idea. It's all by Mr. Card, but the Shadow series is from the viewpoint of Bean, another kid who was in Battle School with Ender.
GWoI starts out as a lie about a passive resistance movement that started out "in another village", but it didn't. Easy to imagine Jesus as being a story about 'the next village over'.
