  • Anyone else get chills around that part of 4:15

The editing between Vig and Cobain just makes it more intense

  • 7:54 ". . . a whole new generation to sell to." There's the sad truth.

  • Haha Natives around :30 lol

  • i would sacrifice my left testicle to go back in time and see nirvana unplugged live in the front row!!

  • Columbine and Nirvana, the 90's were awesome !

  • fuckin so sick of reading comments on youtube about people moaning about fuckin drugs. If you don't take and/or like drugs then enjoy but don't piss on someone who does, it's choice. If they could tax them then the majority of them would be on sale at your local supermarket, alot already are. The people moan because of illegal drugs i can flat out tell you that prescription drugs are just as dangerous and kill as many people if not more than the illegal ones. Get your morales to fuck.

  • butch vig is my favorite producer

  • i wasn't alive during nirvanas time, and i would give anything to be able to see them live.

  • ''and the place was just torn to shreds. it was hilarious.''LOL

  • butch vig is cool.....yeahh...

  • no David Fricke is cool, fuck butch..

  • They changed the lyrics to the first verse of smells like?

  • "A whole new generation TO SELL TO."

    Fuck off.

  • A DENIAL!

  • how can you listen to nevermind and think its only gunna sell 50 000?

  • BRING BACK AMY FINNERTY TO MTV!!!!!

  • ain't the movie they talk bout Pink Floyd's The Wall? I remember watching it, but they don't take over the school really :/

  • damn nirvana suck live

  • how can North American teen angst be a valid premise for a "movement".

    such bizarre irony.

  • @matako07 Well said.

  • MTV stands for Music Television. WTF does it stand for now?!?!

  • @JoelNavaOfficial Motherfuckinggarbage Television

  • Same people like in Seven Ages Of Rock...

  • MTV has a bunch of $@#t today, On April 5th they should play the whole think of this, all of there music videos and the unplugged performance so Nirvana is not lost. thumbs up this and post this to other nirvana videos.

  • @7:55 they should gave that woman her job back... MTV of nowadays sucks....

  • I'm sure that the movie that Chris is referring to is Over the Edge.

  • the words in smells like teen spirit are different in this

  • @baisden77

    no

  • david fricke just seems like an ass. i don't know why, but he is just annoying. probably cuz i don't like rolling stone magazine.

  • y r they still tryna put deeper meanings to his lyrics? kurt didnt write anything for anyone, it was last minute stuff that he wrote to go with the melodies of the songs. not for anyone or anything

  • Kurt's uncanny ability to double-track instinctively & provide some of the most incredible and yet eloquent guitar solos are just two examples of how is art achieved transcendence.

  • Even up here in Canada. Muchmusic was ten times better than MTV back in the 90's. Tons of cool shows about the artists and their music. Great journalism as well as all the great videos and music. But now they are just following MTV. They are actually applying to the CRTC (who regulates content on TV channels) to play less videos and play more "lifestyle programing" which is just another term for bullshit TV shows filled with retards like Jursey Shore. Or whatever those morons are called

  • @Optio10 do they show muchmusic on any channel here in the states? id love to see it

  • MTV Blows cock. Now all it does it glamourize teen pregnancy, drug use and irresponcibility.

  • Christ :) funny sweet guy :D

  • best rock singer ever. that is completely undeniable

  • @AntichristUtubeStar

It's the lyrics for the old version (Boom Box Version) of Smells like teen spirit.

"Come out and play, make up the rules, I know, I hope the tide is blue. "

  • That woman that goes on about MTV, she makes it sound like she's been asked to appear in a tv show about MTV, no it's about NIRVANA!

  • what they've got was from years practicing and smells is a gift from GOD coz they're really work hard to be be an artist...

  • " a whole new generation to sell too." wow

  • Comment removed

  • Dave once described Kurt's vocals as "it sounded like boiling nails"

  • I don't think Kurt Cobain wrote for anyone but himself. He was so lost and misplaced in his personal life and it reflected in his work. Kurt Cobain offered a lot of people a very real sense of belonging.

I wasn't an "insecure" teenager, I was an isolated teenager. I was a gay guy raised in a very rural town in the south. Nirvana gave me no sense of self-esteem, Nirvana helped me realize that it's okay to be different.

  • I <3 Butch Vig

  • 1:03 the guy says free bird

  • I love the reasoning behind hiring the video director, "Lets hire somebody really crap, be punk, be cool, get something not cooperate.

It's funny and ironic how the video helped MTV be “cool”, help the band sell millions and how the video director went on to director videos for "The Rolling Stones", "Aerosmith", "David Bowie", "Green Day" & even gay boys like "Justin Timberlake".

    The power of Nirvana.

  • "Let's hope for 50,000 copies of Nevermind guys!" that shit went Quad Platinum :)

  • Sam Bayer is a douche.

  • dave grohl is still the man!

  • thumbs up if kris looks like the thumb boy. getting old sucks a tuber.

  • Fuck MTV, it died in 2000. Challenge that...

  • @rob8423 they recently took "music television" of of the logo

  • i was 13 y.o

Nirvana will always be in my heart,

    and my memories,

Thanx Kurt Cobain for being the voice of our generation

  • Somewhere around 1:02 you can hear someone say freebird. Did they play Sweet Home Alabama?

  • Comment removed

  • i know this is completley random. but the Producer reminds me of Tony Prince from GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony.

ANYWAY, so i dont get hate comments replying back telling me the dont give a fuck. Something in the Way, is one of the best songs ever made. there's so much meaning and emotion there. if there was a picture to go along with this song. it would be that soggy looking bridge in the cloudy town of aberdeen. it's really fucking beautiful. words couldnt describe it.

  • When your in a band you always get one guy that wants you to play "freebird".

    It just happens!!!lol

  • i never liked this version that he did at the ok hotel

  • "fell off a balcony"? lmao

  • 50,000 copies predicted. Now multiply that by a bizillion and youve got nevermind

  • ...and then Wierd Al puts a fork in 'ya. Yer dun.

  • 1:00

Right before they start to play SLTS, someone yells "FREEBIRD". They didn't know what was about to hit 'em.

  • What is about that freebird?Like i heard on the Unplugged ant someone shouted Freebird..Looked at wikipedia and found out that this is a song by southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd/So whats so funny?because theyre like country rock band or what?im not a an amreican so i don;'t know, but courious.Greetings from Europe!

  • not only that but if you type in nirvana first show ever ....its just an audio recording not a video....but its a recording of them playing in some guys house at a party and even in that video some guy yells freebird....lol I want to know wtf that freebird thing is all about as well.....haha

  • @srekazinskas for some reason its a traditon to yell freebird at rock concerts. it just is. it happened at there very first show, the first time they played smells like teen spirit and at unplugged in new york

  • @herda5 bet you that was the same person who requested 'Freebird' during 'MTV Unplugged'- Deep South stalker haunting their performances!

  • Hey, I just heard that, herda5. Well spotted.

  • i love to go into shops and see younger people like teenagers and younger buy a good record like nevermind

  • How much would you love to sit at that console?

  • That's exactly what I was thinking. lol

  • wtf is a ecostinkchalist?

  • i think he said existentialist

  • that was in april 2007..now it would have sold around 30 million.

  • what the hell did steve diggle just say?

  • Stop! Cut! xD jajajaja i love the faces

  • Comment removed

  • @WuTangShogun36

its called he grew up do dumbass

  • Nevermind has sold 26 million copies worldwide. . . Far cry from 50,000 they projected!!!

  • David Fricke, the Rolling Stone editor now talking like how great the album was when Rolling Stone only gave Nevermind 3 out of 5 stars when it was released. Rolling Stone is a waste, like MTV.

  • @717mienbao thats a review by one person, it doesnt mean every single writer/worker for rolling stone wud give nevermind a 3 out of 5

  • @717mienbao'' Pitchfork Media named the album the sixth best of the decade, noting that "anyone who hates this record today is just trying to be cool, and needs to be trying harder;; Wikipedia. I guess this sentence about coolness suits for RS

  • @717mienbao LOL i was saying the same thing, and then he started comparing lennon and dylans lyric still to kurts, TOTALLY not comparable

  • @717mienbao 3/5! I think the jonas brothers released an album that RS gave 4/5!

  • @717mienbao Boston Globe reviewer Steve Morse wrote "Most of Nevermind is packed with generic punk-pop that had been done by countless acts from Iggy Pop to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, (...) the band has little or nothing to say, settling for moronic ramblings by singer-lyricist Cobain."

  • @717mienbao

Rolling Stone used to rant on every Led Zeppelin album too.

Actually, what I noticed is that Rolling Stone gives nearly EVERY album 3/5 stars.

  • @717mienbao Duh! He wasnt the guy who rated it!

  • @N7Crazy He's the EDITOR. Its his magazine.

  • @717mienbao Yeah, but he isnt the guy who reviewed it!

  • Comment removed

  • @N7Crazy your point was made in your previous comment. If he's going to go on camera years later and on record speak of the deep impact it had on the music culture at the time, he could have spoken AT THE TIME. It so much easier after time has proved a point to go back and act like "oh yeah, I saw it all along". He, as the editor, could have asked the reviewer to re think his article (since he had to approve it) since this is obviously a band that will have tremendous impact . But no.

  • Comment removed

  • @717mienbao I know that I used to write for the paper when I was in college, and journalistic ethics would not allow something like that. If the reviewer thought it deserved 3/5, that was what went in. I'm not saying that Fricke did see it coming, but I don't think that it's fair to hold him to task because of what his reviewer thought, other than ask why he hired someone with such bad taste.

  • @717mienbao

Not entirely true. It was Ira Robbins who gave the poor review.

  • @717mienbao i might not know all the details but in a big corp. like rolling stone I'm pretty sure david fricke isn't the sole person who decides how great or how bad an album is.

  • @717mienbao David Fricke isn't the one who gave the album a 3 star though, Ira Bobbins gave the review of the album. Reviews don't really matter cause it's only one person, it's not an average of what say 100 people gave the album, it's only one person.

  • @717mienbao David Fricke isn't the one who gave the album a 3 star though, Ira Bobbins gave the review of the album. Reviews don't really matter cause it's only one person, it's not an average of what say 100 people gave the album, it's only one person. They re-issued the album as a 4 star anyhow.

  • haha, it's funny thinking they wanted to sell half a million copys, they must have sold bilions now!

  • nevermind sold 10 million

  • its a fighure of speache, i know thay havent sold that many..

  • I wished Nevermind sold a billion!!! Thriller is the best selling album of all time at 110 million. . . Sad isn't it????

  • 7:50

Yes, and yet now MTV is nothing but a breeding ground for Sweet 16 reality shows and...The Real World...Still...It doesn't die.

MTV used to be about the music. I think its fair to say that when Kurt died, MTV started its decline into the bullshit pit of refuse that it is in today.

  • so true no its bull sht when it stands for mtv stands for like music some shit then nows its all about "reality"

  • @ScentlessApprentice7 seen them in dublin in 92 , what band, the place went mental had a tick for the 1994 gig rds bublin on te day he killed himself , april 8th, my favourite of all time , they just had something , my favourite song is, school , nnnnnnooooo reeeeccceeessss

  • @ScentlessApprentice7 MTV is waaaaaaaay better today than it was in the 80's and 90's. all they play are music videos, no lame ass TV shows. the real world was never on MTV. you are wrong, ive beat you. Im better at internetting than you.

  • @t1mTV

I don't know whether to laugh or shake my head at you.

  • @ScentlessApprentice7 ya, you should laugh at yourself because i beat you at internet.

  • @t1mTV

Oh, what a champion we have here!!! Roll out the red carpet!!! The next big thing in internet bullshitters is here!!!

It appears that you've never beaten the Hooked on Phonics monkey, however.

  • @ScentlessApprentice7 successful troll is successful.

  • @t1mTV I see who's the troll now.

  • @ScentlessApprentice7: You Tube made music on MTV redundant. Why wait through what they cue up when you can go straight to what you want to see?

  • i hate charles cross.

  • thank u so much for posting these! i really appreciate it!! i love Nirvana! rip Kurt

  • GREAT

  • 1:00 kurt says this songs called smells like teen spirit and some dude in the crowd yells out "free bird!" haha thats awesome.

  • akaELI, yes it is him pissing his perspective all over the place.

  • AMAZING!

  • fuck, at 0:51, is that the shithead from RollingStone aka worst magazine ever.

  • when is it that the the little baby from the nevermind cover is interviewed now and hes like a teen now?

  • when krist talks about a movie about kids taking over the school is he talking about 'Class of 1984' or 'Rock n' Roll High School'?

  • maybe Over The Edge

  • both

  • God I hate that red headed faggot biographer who doesn't know shit about kurt or nirvana.

  • Comment removed

  • LOL someone screams "FREE BIRD" at 1:30 jus as kurts gonna riff into da sng

  • and at 1:02

  • that's so cool that you're a forensic scientist and that the Tacoma sherrif's dept. was rad enough to let you check out the evidence!

  • Lee is free

  • I wonder what movie Kurt was talking about?

It sounds like Rock n Roll High School...but I dont know

  • it was a film called Over The Edge and it was also Rock n Roll High school

  • from what year is this progrem?

and for the 50 time kurt wes'nt murderd!

  • Not you personally, i mean a whole bunch of people.

Whether he killed himself or otherwise is not important; his music and the mark that he left on music is. I wasnt picking on you specifically, its just the amount of people that come on these videos and talk about his death absolutely beggars belief. His death is depressing, his music kicks ass, I dont want to feel depressed so i dont worry about how he died because there is nothing that can be done anyway!

  • Oh my god, it doesnt matter.

Listen to his damn music, not obsess over his death!

  • Well said

  • Comment removed

  • i hate how something beautiful like kurts voice and his innovativeness get copied now and so overdone, that nothing is original or special anymore...everyone tries to be the next nirvana instead of trying to be themselves like they were...its sad...

  • yeah but on the other hand. all those fakers and posers went unknown. there is still fame in the name of Nirvana.

  • What lyrics is kurt singing for smells like teen spirit?Anyone..

  • Search "Smells like teen spirit lyrics" in google

  • That's not the lyrics...there different lyrics

Regular: Load up on guns bring you friends

This Version: Come and out play we got the rules?

  • yeah..... if you know anything about nirvana then you'd understand that those were the lyrics from the home domes done before the nevermind album.... so in a way they are the real lyrics.. personally i prefer the home demos lyrics... but seriously this is common nirvana facts...

  • Kurt never really cared about lyrics...Lots of his songs he would write the music to then wait until a day before recording he would write the lyrics. All his lyrics have meaning but not many songs have an altogether meaning. Basically one lyric would mean one thing the next was about something completely different. His lyrics are usually really angsty and sarcastic too.

  • the original lyrics before he re wrote them for the nevermind album

  • That may have been a small reason, and I agree that those pieces of shit should not be allowed to do what they do, but it was far from what made Kurt take his life.

  • courtney love killed him

  • There's a lot of evidence pointing to either suicide or homicide by his wife. The more I think about it, and the more I learn about Kurt though, the more I believe that it could very well be murder...

  • completely agree, he did not commit suicide ...

  • he was definatly killed no doubt about it just look at the facts

  • AMEN jmc10502 ...... Look at the fact Bro .... No finger prints on the gun, barrel was too long to him to put the gun in the postiion it was in. 2 different types of writing on the ( so-called, good bye note ) I hope everyone out has seen the movie, Kurt and Courtney, watch the puzzle unfold ....

  • Man, hearing Kurt's voice alone for Teen Spirit is tearful because of its beauty and anguish.

  • i agree, i wish i could get those track sessions

  • The woman at, like, 8:00 is tooootalllly cool LoL!1!

    -_-

  • wow are they flashing gang signs ? they probably dont even know how to spell grunge.

  • Butch is an awesome producer. I wish I could record with that guy.

  • 0:33 those aren't the kids Kurt wrote for. Wannabe gangstas are a joke.

  • taht's because the kids that kurt "wote for" no longer exists.- wich is sad, now all want to be gangster and shit like that, fucking idiots should be kicked to death

  • who the fuck cares how they dress? if they like the music then why should that even matter?

  • Just because your uncomfortable with who you are doesnt mean everyone else is...

  • @boyblob

those wannabe gangsters are just as confused as stoned out punks... Kurt wrote for all insecure teenangers

  • @0210nz I dunno, man. I think he wrote for himself and it just so happened that insecure teenagers liked it.

  • @MajestaBuck

he must have known that he wasn't the only one feeling that way.

  • What's the name of the film kris is talking about?

  • i think "over the edge"

  • I'd vote for "Over the Edge" as well. 1979. Matt Dillons first movie. Great Soundtrack. Cheap Trick, The Ramones, The Cars, Van Halen.

  • i think they said something Rock and Roll High School.

  • it also might have been pink floyd's the wall but im leaning twords the ramones

  • I'd wager Rock And Roll High School

  • lol, some kid was moshing around in the mall and fell off a balcony, thats hilarious

  • wow the feedback at 3:15 i always had done when i play it, never knew why they didnt leave it sounds so cool, now i know haha i loved that

  • Is it just me or does it look like butch's left eyebrow is shaved off??? The guy seems cool and all but it just looks like he only has one eye brow. lol.

  • honestly i didn't have mtv back then, just the reg 6 networks. i do remember hearin g it for the first time, ridiing with some friends on our way to a movie. i don't remember, what movie but i do remember hearing it and it was WAY different then anything I heard before.

  • "Where were you when you saw the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time?" I think that question could generate loads of answers because many of us (ahem, old enough) can probably remember that... You could definitely feel that a paradigmatic shift was about to occur in popular music when that video and song hit the airwaves and MTV.

Steeped in a certain era, yet timeless. That spells classic to me, yeah.

  • holy crap look how high is that kid at
