MTV has a bunch of $@#t today, On April 5th they should play the whole think of this, all of there music videos and the unplugged performance so Nirvana is not lost. thumbs up this and post this to other nirvana videos.
y r they still tryna put deeper meanings to his lyrics? kurt didnt write anything for anyone, it was last minute stuff that he wrote to go with the melodies of the songs. not for anyone or anything
Kurt's uncanny ability to double-track instinctively & provide some of the most incredible and yet eloquent guitar solos are just two examples of how is art achieved transcendence.
Even up here in Canada. Muchmusic was ten times better than MTV back in the 90's. Tons of cool shows about the artists and their music. Great journalism as well as all the great videos and music. But now they are just following MTV. They are actually applying to the CRTC (who regulates content on TV channels) to play less videos and play more "lifestyle programing" which is just another term for bullshit TV shows filled with retards like Jursey Shore. Or whatever those morons are called
I don't think Kurt Cobain wrote for anyone but himself. He was so lost and misplaced in his personal life and it reflected in his work. Kurt Cobain offered a lot of people a very real sense of belonging.
I wasn't an "insecure" teenager, I was an isolated teenager. I was a gay guy raised in a very rural town in the south. Nirvana gave me no sense of self-esteem, Nirvana helped me realize that it's okay to be different.
I love the reasoning behind hiring the video director, "Lets hire somebody really crap, be punk, be cool, get something not cooperate.
It's funny and ironic how the video helped MTV be “cool”, help the band sell millions and how the video director went on to director videos for "The Rolling Stones", "Aerosmith", "David Bowie", "Green Day" & even gay boys like "Justin Timberlake".
i know this is completley random. but the Producer reminds me of Tony Prince from GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony.
ANYWAY, so i dont get hate comments replying back telling me the dont give a fuck. Something in the Way, is one of the best songs ever made. there's so much meaning and emotion there. if there was a picture to go along with this song. it would be that soggy looking bridge in the cloudy town of aberdeen. it's really fucking beautiful. words couldnt describe it.

David Fricke, the Rolling Stone editor now talking like how great the album was when Rolling Stone only gave Nevermind 3 out of 5 stars when it was released. Rolling Stone is a waste, like MTV.
@717mienbao'' Pitchfork Media named the album the sixth best of the decade, noting that "anyone who hates this record today is just trying to be cool, and needs to be trying harder;; Wikipedia. I guess this sentence about coolness suits for RS
@717mienbao Boston Globe reviewer Steve Morse wrote "Most of Nevermind is packed with generic punk-pop that had been done by countless acts from Iggy Pop to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, (...) the band has little or nothing to say, settling for moronic ramblings by singer-lyricist Cobain."
@N7Crazy your point was made in your previous comment. If he's going to go on camera years later and on record speak of the deep impact it had on the music culture at the time, he could have spoken AT THE TIME. It so much easier after time has proved a point to go back and act like "oh yeah, I saw it all along". He, as the editor, could have asked the reviewer to re think his article (since he had to approve it) since this is obviously a band that will have tremendous impact . But no.
@717mienbao Allright, I just want to imagine this simple thing: You are a senior editor, and you get a hell of a load of fucking shit to do at the time. Then one of you reviewers come in, says that some album from a pretty (at that time) unknown punk band, is average. You have at least hundreds of other stuff to think about, than that record? Do you even care?
@717mienbao I know that I used to write for the paper when I was in college, and journalistic ethics would not allow something like that. If the reviewer thought it deserved 3/5, that was what went in. I'm not saying that Fricke did see it coming, but I don't think that it's fair to hold him to task because of what his reviewer thought, other than ask why he hired someone with such bad taste.
@717mienbao i might not know all the details but in a big corp. like rolling stone I'm pretty sure david fricke isn't the sole person who decides how great or how bad an album is.
@717mienbao David Fricke isn't the one who gave the album a 3 star though, Ira Bobbins gave the review of the album. Reviews don't really matter cause it's only one person, it's not an average of what say 100 people gave the album, it's only one person.
@717mienbao David Fricke isn't the one who gave the album a 3 star though, Ira Bobbins gave the review of the album. Reviews don't really matter cause it's only one person, it's not an average of what say 100 people gave the album, it's only one person. They re-issued the album as a 4 star anyhow.
Yes, and yet now MTV is nothing but a breeding ground for Sweet 16 reality shows and...The Real World...Still...It doesn't die.
MTV used to be about the music. I think its fair to say that when Kurt died, MTV started its decline into the bullshit pit of refuse that it is in today.
@ScentlessApprentice7 seen them in dublin in 92 , what band, the place went mental had a tick for the 1994 gig rds bublin on te day he killed himself , april 8th, my favourite of all time , they just had something , my favourite song is, school , nnnnnnooooo reeeeccceeessss
@ScentlessApprentice7 MTV is waaaaaaaay better today than it was in the 80's and 90's. all they play are music videos, no lame ass TV shows. the real world was never on MTV. you are wrong, ive beat you. Im better at internetting than you.
Not you personally, i mean a whole bunch of people.
Whether he killed himself or otherwise is not important; his music and the mark that he left on music is. I wasnt picking on you specifically, its just the amount of people that come on these videos and talk about his death absolutely beggars belief. His death is depressing, his music kicks ass, I dont want to feel depressed so i dont worry about how he died because there is nothing that can be done anyway!
i hate how something beautiful like kurts voice and his innovativeness get copied now and so overdone, that nothing is original or special anymore...everyone tries to be the next nirvana instead of trying to be themselves like they were...its sad...
yeah..... if you know anything about nirvana then you'd understand that those were the lyrics from the home domes done before the nevermind album.... so in a way they are the real lyrics.. personally i prefer the home demos lyrics... but seriously this is common nirvana facts...
Kurt never really cared about lyrics...Lots of his songs he would write the music to then wait until a day before recording he would write the lyrics. All his lyrics have meaning but not many songs have an altogether meaning. Basically one lyric would mean one thing the next was about something completely different. His lyrics are usually really angsty and sarcastic too.
That may have been a small reason, and I agree that those pieces of shit should not be allowed to do what they do, but it was far from what made Kurt take his life.
There's a lot of evidence pointing to either suicide or homicide by his wife. The more I think about it, and the more I learn about Kurt though, the more I believe that it could very well be murder...
AMEN jmc10502 ...... Look at the fact Bro .... No finger prints on the gun, barrel was too long to him to put the gun in the postiion it was in. 2 different types of writing on the ( so-called, good bye note ) I hope everyone out has seen the movie, Kurt and Courtney, watch the puzzle unfold ....
taht's because the kids that kurt "wote for" no longer exists.- wich is sad, now all want to be gangster and shit like that, fucking idiots should be kicked to death
Is it just me or does it look like butch's left eyebrow is shaved off??? The guy seems cool and all but it just looks like he only has one eye brow. lol.
honestly i didn't have mtv back then, just the reg 6 networks. i do remember hearin g it for the first time, ridiing with some friends on our way to a movie. i don't remember, what movie but i do remember hearing it and it was WAY different then anything I heard before.
"Where were you when you saw the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time?" I think that question could generate loads of answers because many of us (ahem, old enough) can probably remember that... You could definitely feel that a paradigmatic shift was about to occur in popular music when that video and song hit the airwaves and MTV.
Steeped in a certain era, yet timeless. That spells classic to me, yeah.
Anyone else get chills around that part of 4:15

yeah but on the other hand. all those fakers and posers went unknown. there is still fame in the name of Nirvana.

jibbyjames 2 years ago
That's not the lyrics...there different lyrics
Regular: Load up on guns bring you friends
This Version: Come and out play we got the rules?
Kurtck95 2 years ago
yeah..... if you know anything about nirvana then you'd understand that those were the lyrics from the home domes done before the nevermind album.... so in a way they are the real lyrics.. personally i prefer the home demos lyrics... but seriously this is common nirvana facts...

Kurt never really cared about lyrics...Lots of his songs he would write the music to then wait until a day before recording he would write the lyrics. All his lyrics have meaning but not many songs have an altogether meaning. Basically one lyric would mean one thing the next was about something completely different. His lyrics are usually really angsty and sarcastic too.
dandaman2207 2 years ago
the original lyrics before he re wrote them for the nevermind album

it was the poparatzi that killed kurt. i say we tell obama to make it illegal!
blahbrad789 2 years ago
That may have been a small reason, and I agree that those pieces of shit should not be allowed to do what they do, but it was far from what made Kurt take his life.

courtney love killed him
greeniem 2 years ago 3
There's a lot of evidence pointing to either suicide or homicide by his wife. The more I think about it, and the more I learn about Kurt though, the more I believe that it could very well be murder...
VegitoVai90 2 years ago 3
completely agree, he did not commit suicide ...
sp4172 2 years ago 3
he was definatly killed no doubt about it just look at the facts
jmc10502 2 years ago
AMEN jmc10502 ...... Look at the fact Bro .... No finger prints on the gun, barrel was too long to him to put the gun in the postiion it was in. 2 different types of writing on the ( so-called, good bye note ) I hope everyone out has seen the movie, Kurt and Courtney, watch the puzzle unfold ....

Man, hearing Kurt's voice alone for Teen Spirit is tearful because of its beauty and anguish.

I'd vote for "Over the Edge" as well. 1979. Matt Dillons first movie. Great Soundtrack. Cheap Trick, The Ramones, The Cars, Van Halen.

honestly i didn't have mtv back then, just the reg 6 networks. i do remember hearin g it for the first time, ridiing with some friends on our way to a movie. i don't remember, what movie but i do remember hearing it and it was WAY different then anything I heard before.
xXxmajikmanxXx 2 years ago
"Where were you when you saw the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time?" I think that question could generate loads of answers because many of us (ahem, old enough) can probably remember that... You could definitely feel that a paradigmatic shift was about to occur in popular music when that video and song hit the airwaves and MTV.
Steeped in a certain era, yet timeless. That spells classic to me, yeah.
