Isn't that something Contra: Shattered Soldier and Rocket Knight both have alternate endings. I mean clearly they wanted to see what people think by putting Bill up against Sparkster. I got to say I would like to see more of these endings soon.

and one were a giant snake thing comes out of the ground and you have to fight it but its huge and takes about an hour to kill

to get the third ending you have to die 666 times and kill 666 monsters and beat the game 666 times and also get over 666 lives

Sparkster probably used his rocket attack and used his headbutt to send the guy flying into the wall, if it was the sword he would've flown back like he usually does from the attack.
