Longboards are more diverse and take more skill. Freebords look like fun but I wouldnt pay that much for something I would get tired of quickly. everything done on a freebord can be done on a longboard but it takes more practice to do on a longboard which = more gratifying.

The caster wheels on a freebord dont require you to feel the traction of your wheels before you break them free and you are never actually sliding. Learning stand up sliding on a longboard takes months to be able to control small slides. You do have a point in saying that freebords are geared towards people who want a snowboard feeling because longboarding is a different feeling.

@beastlyorion you can push off but its really for downhill use, its meant to be like a snowboard. And the bindings you just slip your feet in, theyre not stuck to the board so you can jump out if something goes wrong

so i just heard about this freeboard business (i.e. i live in kansas and everything takes at least 3 years to get to us from the coasts, longboards have just now gotten to be ina few skate stores last year) but ive been longboarding for about 5 years and had to build my first deck by hand and definately love it. But what brand would someone recommend for freeboards? Can you go as fast as you can witha longboard?

It is nothing like a longboard. I live in Colorado, I snowboard all summer and I have 3 longboards and a freebord. They're all fun but Freebording isn't anything like lonboarding. it is just like snowboarding. ANY longboarder who dosent snowboard and tries a freebord will NOT be able to ride. It is completely different.

BTW you CAN PUSH with a freebord. It is much harder than longboarding but you could absolutely push to get speed or commute.

The only dangerous thing about freeborders is they feel the need to weave in and out of traffic cuz they can (personal experience). On a longboard, it took me a week to learn how to slide, and that involved a lot cuts, bruises, and roadburn. Freebords may catch more, but the anchors holding your feet down give you more control, and that was enough for me. Evidently you need to work on that a little

@hawnkblade It is the Durometer of the urethane they use. Typical street/pool wheels are usually a duro of 95-101a Whereas typical "longboard" wheels are anywhere from 75-86a, making a much softer wheel and providing that soft feel you are referring too.

the urethane used for longboard wheels varies, but for the most part they are a hell of a lot more expensive than what is used for bassic skateboard wheels.

so i just heard about this freeboard business (i.e. i live in kansas and everything takes at least 3 years to get to us from the coasts, longboards have just now gotten to be ina few skate stores last year) but ive been longboarding for about 5 years and had to build my first deck by hand and definately love it. But what brand would someone recommend for freeboards? Can you go as fast as you can witha longboard?

@TheLastBloodBrother your speed depends on where ur riding cuz u need hills to freeboard as your feet are strapped to the board so you cant kick to gain speed like you can on a longboard, think of it as snowboarding on concrete

It is nothing like a longboard. I live in Colorado, I snowboard all summer and I have 3 longboards and a freebord. They're all fun but Freebording isn't anything like lonboarding. it is just like snowboarding. ANY longboarder who dosent snowboard and tries a freebord will NOT be able to ride. It is completely different.

@Slumbl It is amazing close to snowboarding, so yes. It took me 2 days to get the hang of it, but my extreme snowboarding friend could ride it in 1 hour.

BTW you CAN PUSH with a freebord. It is much harder than longboarding but you could absolutely push to get speed or commute.

Freebords are for snowboarders during the summer. Its also for people who have the balls to catch edges and fall 10x harder than doing the same thing on the longboard.

I longboard, but I am thinking about getting a freeboard, because they look fun, and I like snowboarding, but I can't do that in the summer can I? Oh yeah, and I am not one of the lame longboarders that is thinking about getting a freeboard because they are too chicken to slide. I am good at sliding, but that thing just looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

The only dangerous thing about freeborders is they feel the need to weave in and out of traffic cuz they can (personal experience). @LAXluverXOXO I"ve ridden both too, and I can tell you after about an hour on a freebord I could tackle some pretty beastly hills. On a longboard, it took me a week to learn how to slide, and that involved a lot cuts, bruises, and roadburn. Freebords may catch more, but the anchors holding your feet down give you more control, and that was enough for me. Evidently you need to work on that a little

@Red1676 No. It was meant to simulate surfing, because all other types of boards fail miserably (the exception, of course, being wave boards). Freebords are for off-training snowboarders, that's why they have the two extra wheels. Just like a snowboard, you can go sideways without catching high speeds. Its obvious you don't know what you're talking about, so save yourself the oxygen and shut the hell up. Lord knows your brain needs what little it can get

@longboarding4canada sorry for the stupid comment, if you read my previous comment you can see that i said longboard is the best, i actually prefer longboard than the original skate, but in terms of difficulty the real skate is without no doubt MUCH harder to do tricks than the longboard. but the longboard has some strong point, like: its quicker, easier to ride, easier to stop, and its better than the real skate in the street, since the wheels are made of plastic/rubber, or something like that.

@hawnkblade It is the Durometer of the urethane they use. Typical street/pool wheels are usually a duro of 95-101a Whereas typical "longboard" wheels are anywhere from 75-86a, making a much softer wheel and providing that soft feel you are referring too.

the urethane used for longboard wheels varies, but for the most part they are a hell of a lot more expensive than what is used for bassic skateboard wheels.
