TexWhatever mentioned "The Seaview Ballroom", this clip looks like it was recorded there, can anyone confirm? I know, I know! It was a long time ago and most of us were doing things that compromised our memory, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Yes its the Seaview, I have a photo I took around that time of Boys Next Door and the curtain and trimmings are the same. Its the upstairs room. I wonder if it still smells of Apple Cider?
Thank you I thought it looked familiar, but I thought it was downstairs, 'cause that's where my photos were taken, I think, the memories are a bit fuzzy. I saw them several times there mostly as 'The Birthday Party'. Ah the good old days. Abrooke62 if your're on Facebook you might be interested in a group called 'I Got Drunk at the Crystal Balloom'. All the best and thanks.
btw: i think this was the last song they did that was conventional. after that they went right off into surrealism thanks to rowland howard. apparently he wrote half their first album (door door?). i'm GLAD they dared to be different. the world is a richer place for it. i applaud bands who dare to be different.
he ceratinly is. i was lucky enough to mix him for a little while when he used to play at the public bar in north melbourne. he was a masterclass in how to present a song, what nuance to use. it used to upset me greatly that hardly anyone knows who he is in his own country. i used to drive him around in my shitheap car and think "why isn't this guy in a limo?" famous people used to drop in to his gigs like eric from hole (whom i mistook for tom petty but he laughed and said everyone does :D )
jeeeezuz. this takes me back. i remember seeing these guys at the seaview ballroom before they had their national no.1 hit with 'shivers'. funny thing is i went to school with them and didn't even know it.
Soooo good. I only wish I could get my hands on the lyrics somewhere so I can include it in my musicology essay. I might be deaf but I've no idea what he's saying :C
I don`t think Shivers was ever a national number one hit. In fact, it didn`t even chart.
