  • the helvetica scenario is terrifying.

  • Industrial calcium in my Vesselheim! Oh, no, helvetica!!!

  • Whenever I feel like I have too much faith in humanity I come to this video and trawl through the comments until I find someone who thinks it's serious.

  • who's the smiling girl????? she's gorgeous!

  • and was pivotal in the development of emsimalberatilum......BZZZ.......

  • you can use distilled water.. but be aware of the cost (9p) LOL

  • lol chalky dust, and it actually is chalk

  • this programme makes me want to become a science teacher, just so i can show it to a class full of children and see if i get sacked

  • So that's the origin of Slenderman.

  • @moonfacemoonfacemoo and the hornet. o_o. so what's the marble?

  • Can't they avoid helvetica just by using a different font?

Well, I can see they certainly hadn't gotten their act together yet in episode 1, this isn't nearly as clever as the giant floating scissors.

  • Thanks Calcium... Thalcium.

  • Helvetica Scenario only happens in Switzerland.

  • where'd they get those molars?? they friends with a dentist?

  • I can only imagine Look Around You and Silent Hill share a universe:

    Faceless Nurses = Helvetica Scenario

  • It has been said that the Helvetica Scenario can be compared to the Arial-Typeface Phenomenon.

  • #WTF

  • heated to 12,000 bc ...

  • It starts a bit slowly but this is hilarious.

The sad thing is that I bet a lot of people wouldn't realise how far out of whack the "science" is in this.

  • 11 people suffered form the helvetica scenario

  • i have the exact set of plates the meat is on at the end, how bizarre

  • "Because calcium perspires, the water must be drained."

LOL I love look around you :D

  • 9:38 WTF IS THIS!

  • Comment removed

  • "you can use distilled water, but be aware of the cost!"

  • "Luckily Helvetica is a very, very rare occurrence." Haha...yeahhh right.

  • THEY'RE THERE IN THEIR ROOM .

  • "You can use distilled water, but be aware of the cost"

    *DISTILLED WATER 9p*

  • Calcium-molecule? I'm raging so hard right now. What atomic model were they using at this timeperiod?

  • @Manyhigh It's a comedy show.

  • Oh my god. Did the UK show this to ist children?

  • @bwnsaj It's a very studied parody of British educational TV from the '70s and '80s.

  • @bwnsaj No,it's a very dry comedy show. I mean come on! They extract calcium from old teeth and bones? Calcium lenses, calcium in bridges?!!? Oh and it's heated to 12000 BC !!! LOL

  • @blaster2012 straight from Edmund optics website: "Calcium Fluoride is often used in spectroscopic windows and lenses due to its high transmission from 350nm to 7µm"

  • At 9:40 ... Wut.

  • What's funny is watching this in 240p only makes it more authentic.

  • @MsRachel63 Videos in the 70s didn't have artifacting...

  • lol Helvetica Scenario.

Helvetica is latin for Swiss, I believe, so it's essentially the Swiss Scenario which makes a lot of sense in accordance to their diagram.

  • They didn't use the same narrator - Peter Serefinowicz is just scary-good at impressions

  • Last night we bombed the Qhaddafi compound thus removing all of the calcium. So the reason that Mummar is so crazy is due to the Helvetic Scenario. If the military leaders of the world watch LAY they would know how to cleanse the wild of filth and have peace over all.

  • Must be an experts mortar and pestle, fans of oblivion put yo hands up, and vote thumbs up.

  • saw the warning, watched the helvetica bit, skin is crawling.

  • Even though this is a lampoon of old British tv school programmes this isn't too far removed from what they were actually like. I'm sure they used the same narrator too.

  • Heated to 12000 BC eh?

  • I wonder what a flatscreen monitor is doing there at 7:23

  • @tronulu It's not flat....

  • The "calcic image misplacement" gets me every time!

Im not into the second season tho. The copybook stuff is best.

  • watching this instead of studying for chemistry tomorrow :')

  • I love the subtler jabs at experiment protocol too, using tapwater, stirring with a pencil and such

  • its tooooooo good of a parody. One of my favorite shows!!

  • That's not elemental calcium that's probably some calcium salt

  • Aah yes the classic student education series "Look Around You".

They certainly do not make shows like this any more, I recall showing it to my upper 6th level students back in the early 80's.

Five of them went on to become highly regarded physicists.

It just goes to show, learn your lessons and reap the reward!

  • @Jarren202

I'm also a Science teacher...I'm going to show this to my department colleagues.

I saw it for the first time last night...I couldn't believe it...iCalcium how do you feel?

    I nearly choked...

  • @Jarren202 Wow you have a time machine? Because the made look around you in 2002, and you wouldn't lie would you?

  • @fletri *sigh

  • @Jarren202 uhh, actually the show ws made from 2002_2005 by Talkbac productions for BBC2, the color was distorted to resemble the film used in the timeframe that they were intending to replicate and any references to dates are as inaccurate as most of the topics in the series

  • @84merf I think your sarcasm detector is malfunctioning, better have a scientist look that over.

  • @84merf *sigh

  • @Kynapple Wait which was a parody?

  • The helvetica has to keep fixin his hair. Gotta look good!

  • Comment removed

  • Why does noone die ? XD

  • So clever I can actually smell the stench of my old chemistry class.

  • They don't make educational programs like this anymore.

  • helvetica principle! calcium lens! omg. epic.

  • WHAT the FUCK is Helvetica? (Besides a shitty font.)

  • @thisusernameistaken2 REALLY?????????????

  • @thisusernameistaken2 Dude, you're right! I checked online and not all of this is true. There are cases where the queen atom can leave without damage to the rest of the molecule. These british should do some more fact checking!

  • @thisusernameistaken2 Are you serious? Somebody call this man an ambulance.

  • what the heck is helvetica? ? ?

  • @vaheedh as far as i understood, (im probably wrong) its derived from the name of the town that they started studying the superposition of calcium

the town is called.. helvestia or soemthin i think

  • @antijelly ohh i see, thats good to know.. thanks

  • heated to 12000 BC. brilliant.

  • Look Around You isn't old. It's a modern spoof OF the old educational series videos. That's why, you know, all of the things it teaches are wrong.

  • We're so lucky that we can get calcium from our teeth falling out. If our teeth didn't fall out we would surely run out of calcium!

  • I like how the calcium is heated to 1200 BC

  • How is this old thing filmed at a 16:9 aspect ratio and at 480p? The world is crazy.

  • I might cry

  • 8:32

    looks like a breast implant.

  • This episode makes my teeth hurt.

  • they're there in their room

  • so thats what the brits do with their teeth once they fall out.....

  • Why'd they drop the frontcaps? :(

  • D:!!! No theme song!!!

  • Hey, what did you do so that the other parts of your videos to appear on the right side, or when your video ends playing? i made two parts os some video but when you watch patr 1 part 2 doesnt appear on the right side, or when the part 1 video finishes playing, how do i do that?

  • manco66 is a naughty person for his description of this... bad manco... banco.

  • What a fuck!?

  • @dexmoire - you mean "What the fuck ?"

  • "Calcium; you may know it at Ginny, or Ninny, or Peter's Peg."

  • So helvetica turns you into the question?

  • "Thus man's very existence is inextricably linked to the white element..."

    Innuendo anybody?

  • @squigoo I don't get it

  • @NotTheAntichrist Umm... white element? Five letter word? Starts with an S?

  • @squigoo That's really pushing it. I highly doubt that was the joke they were making.

  • @NotTheAntichrist You're probably right. Sometimes I can't help myself.

  • because calcium perspires

    HA

  • so excellent for trolling americans

  • I saw this on Telly and believed it until they said germs come from Germany, and that was after the bit where they made a guy drink sewage

  • much better than bill bye

  • @piano2drum7guitar That may quite possibly be the understatement of the week. XD

  • I love the bit at 0:27 which reminds me of the old Southern TV logo

  • I am flashing back to 1980... Thatcher, Sinclair ZX, Iranian Embassy, being beaten round the head by sadistic teachers, Swap Shop, 5p tube tickets, Marc Almond, being beaten around the head by sadistic schoolmates, General Jaruselski, assassination of John Paul I, The Wombles, being beaten around the head by parents...

A beating really was a beating in those days. Thank God for headbeatings and leaded petrol fumes. If not we might have realised the true horror of our situation and changed it

  • I suddenly got nostalgic for BASIC routines written on old Commodores and printed out on dot matrix printers which made noises like pneumatic drills.

10 PRINT "THIS IS A FUCKING WASTE OF PAPER"

    20 GOTO 10

    RUN

  • Take out your copybooks.

  • this is from 2006 and its a parody of 70's british school programs

  • The Helvetica Scenario is hellish

  • it is then heated in giant ovens to 12000 BC!!!!!!

  • LMAO.

For some reason, I found them hitting the globby "calcium" so funny...

  • sittin by the hcl

  • That Helvetica Scenario bit scares the hell out of me.

  • Where can I get me a calcium nib or calcium glasses?

  • hqhhahaahhaha u can use distilled water but beware of the cost...LMAO

  • that was that last device that zapped the flower?

  • Shoot, helvetica is some serious business. i better write that shit down in my copy book.

  • The description makes me lol.

  • Damn that helvetica is creepy

  • 1:23 Wow that ball bounced higher each time

  • lol at triple helix

  • Helvetica!

  • watch this high....its life changing

  • when a show like this hits the states its like a breath of fresh air. i can't think of one american t.v. show that is as smart, funny and clever as this. now, if you'll exscuse me, i'm off to produce some brown iron

  • 6:24 best EVER

  • that was really used in school

  • This is great, but the maths one is the best with it's math problems XD

  • 03:21 haha, they just turn the Y shift, they did't even bother to hook it up for real.

  • Dude...get a little alcohol in you and this becomes comic GOLD.

I seriously think I got an entire hours work of ab exercise just watching this 10 minute segment.

  • Peered through a calcium lens, XD

  • "You can use distilled water, but be aware of the price."

    THAT WAS TOO COOL XD

  • destilled water tastes like crap.

  • Your not supposed to drink distilled water...

  • *You're.

    "Naah?! ARE YOU SRS?!!"

You can't say I'm not supposed to drink it, people can do whatever they want, and I wanted to taste some.

  • @Zhylo I didn't mean its law or anything. I'm just saying distilled water is not made for drinking.

If you drink to much distilled water, ironically, you will become dehydrated.

  • ofc, you'll not get the "junk" that's in ordenary water either, like minerals and other, witch give the water it's taste.

  • @Zhylo the minerals not only give it the taste but are also necesarry to get into your body to keep you healthy. to much salt is bad. but not enough salt is way worse.

  • yeah the resulting mafipulation could kill; it'd be like 10 bottlesworth of acid going into you.

  • no way dude.. iron is the funniest. It has the giant scissors thing

  • They're there in Their room! lol

  • "Water" is by far the funniest of them all!!!

  • Effing funny. This whole series. Dry, not for everyone. If you grew up with this kind of movie/video in school, its a stitch. Seeing this in an actual science class would be surreal ( @gurrenlove below) .

  • We watched this in Biology just for a laugh.

  • What the fuck is "imsumol baratilan"?

And why does it zap flowers?

  • This is a well known British comedy show, it's a spoof of the old educational shows

  • @zephyruk ...but you haven't explained that particular joke.

...wait, is it a corruption of "I'm Small Britain"?

  • My chemistry teacher showed this in class one day as a joke. I laughed so hard I cried... such a funny video.

  • HOLY CRAP! I have that same creepy cat wallet in 7:34 except mine is blue

  • this programme is british humour at its finest. peter seranfinowic (or however its spelt) is genius!

  • LMAO be aware of the cost "9p" dont wanna break the bank on that one.

  • I love the music throughout. It reminds me a lot of Boards Of Canada ;)

  • I am learning so much new stuff from this film! Now I don't have to study for my science test!

  • By the way, how did that science test go?

  • @tojo940

    Ouch.

  • @tojo940 I hope you are joking. This is a joke, most of the fakes aren't true.

  • @tojo940 Good luck on that science test.

  • Don't turn the calcium lenses on milk, or .... Helvetica! My dog has already gone, beware!

  • Comment removed

  • "Danger Helvetica" is written in Helvetica. After watching the documentary Helvetica, I start to notice it all over the place

  • That is the thing about science...Nothing is self-explanatory. If you knew nothing about science, this video would seem plausible.

  • 7:34.....I have that little cat shaped coin purse!!!! XD

  • AHAAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAH

  • Helvetica Scenario 72 up, 24 down love it hate it

    1. A situation that can arise from improper handling of the element intelligent Calcium (I-Calcium). I suggest you consult the Health and Safety Executive for guidelines. Originating from the series Look Around You blants.

    2. Helvetica is a font also known as Arial. There is some confunkledness over the name and origination of this font resulting in an Helvetica Scenario.

  • Helvetica and Arial are different. Arial is based on Helvetica, but it has noticeable changes made to the letters (which by fairly universal typographer consensus make it look uglier).

  • @Number3Pencils "fairly universal" I think you mean "universal"

  • Fair enough.

  • Where can I get this series on DVD I want to donate a copy to my local schools Science Dept. This is some funny ass shit. I have watched 5 episodes so far & if I laugh any more I will probably cough up a lung.

  • I got it from Amazon.

  • I AM THE QUEEN ATOM, BOW BEFORE ME!

  • That's one dangerous typefont xD

  • I feel fortunate that I never had to witness a Helvetica Scenario firsthand. However, this morning I did feel slightly dizzy which I believe may be a symptom of Comic Sans MS Syndrome. Write that down.

  • @almigi

That is nothing in comparison to Verdana Complex.

I've seen great men succumb to it.

  • This is so clever... and so typically British.
