"Easy Goer met those expectations and dreams embodied in his powerful chestnut frame and authored an unforgettable Hall of Fame champion career, and will always be mentioned in the same breath with the GREATEST horses of ALL TIME." Bloodhorse 1999. Could not state it better.
You shall not see in Futtre this kind of HORSE.....If from the beginning o Racing History then When ....i loved him & still like ...My own SON.!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is/was no mystery why Beyer stated that "from a speed-performances standpoint, Easy Goer ran even faster and better than Slew,Affirmed and Bid, at the ages of two and three years old."
Easy goer ran these top ten all time performances and he ran these top ten all time performances many, many times in his career at every distance he ran,6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F!
@footyunit Easy Goer ran without chemicals no lasix were allowed in New York back then that was the reason Sunday Silience didnt run in the Jockey Club gold cup
Easy Goer, a once in a lifetime horse , one of the true all time Hall of Fame rare greats that come along once in a lifetime, who combined wicked record speed at a mile and at shorter distances, with a thoroughly brilliant and genuine stamina, and ran every distance in between brilliant.
Easy Goer, just colossal performance after colossal performance in his lifetime filled with colossal performances. Not many greats ran these colossal performances at sprint, mile, route and stamina distances, but Easy Goer did. It is also amazing to think how many lengths Easy Goer was in front of Secretariat in that Gotham record mile, and under a total hand ride.
Beyer said that from a speed-performances standpoint, "Easy Goer, at the ages of two and three, ran even faster than Seattle Slew,Affirmed and Spectacular Bid." Simply awesome and amazing.
So the correct opinion in the statement should have read. "Easy Goer would be mentioned in the same reverential breath as Citation(lost 4 of 5 races to Noor), Secretariat(lost 3 big races at 3), Dr. Fager(lost 2 of 4 traces o Damascus),Man O'War, Kelso(lost 3 of 4 races to Beau Purple), Forego(lost 2 of 3 races to Wajima &Big Spruce), and his campaign acclaimed the greatest in racing history,if not for the 2 typically atrocious Pat Day rides that got him beat a nose&neck vs.another great in ss."
Bill Nack of SI,"In a brilliant display of speed and stamina RARELY seen in Hall of Fame champion older horses, Easy Goer ran the fifth quarter in 24 seconds, and ran the second fastest Belmont of all time." Easy Goer had so many of these rare, brilliant displays of brilliant speed and stamina. Interesting to note, the Ragozin numbers said Easy Goer ran AS FAST as Secretariat in this Belmont Stakes. Heck, he ran as fast in many other of his races also.
I believe it was Hirsch or Crist who also stated it, "Easy Goer would be mentioned in the same reverential breath as Citation(lost 4 of 5 to Noor),Secretariat(lost 3 races at 3),Dr. Fager(lost 2 of 4 to Damascus),Man O'War,Kelso(lost 3 of 4 to Beau Purple),Forego(lost 2 of 3 to John Henry), and his campaign acclaimed the greatest in racing history,if not for the 2 typically atrocious Pat Day rides that got him beat a nose &desperation neck vs. a top horse in SS."
Easy Goer simply had so many, many days and performances in his lifetime that were top ten all time performances, and he had these performances at all distances, ranging from 6.5F- 12F, all distances that he ran at in his lifetime.
You're saying Forego lost 2 of 3 races to John Henry? If you are you are wrong. Those two NEVER met in a race, ever! I imagine if I were to fact check the rest of your post I'd find other errors too.
I love John Henry, but Forego would have not lost to to him...ever!
As for Easy Goer, along with Risen Star and Point Given, is among the best 3 yr olds to not have won the TC.
@JimPKil Corrections. I meant FOREGO lost 2 of 3 races to BOTH Big Spruce and Wajima! John Henry lost 2 of 3 races to Interco and Mehmet! Kelso lost 3 of 4 races to Beau Purple. Citation lost 4 of 5 races to Noor. Dr. Fager lost 2 of 4 races to Damascus. Skip Away lost 4 of 6 races to Formal Gold. Go ahead and check and see if these facts are correct.
That was a look of "you mean were not winning the triple crown" ? "yea that , let me look at the program caused the problem" make an excuse you were not the best horse on this day thats all , you had your days but this day belonged to easy goer!
Easy Goer though was one of the rare all time champion greats who combined blazing record speed(1:32.2) at a mile and at shorter distances, with a truly superb and genuine stamina to run the second fastest Belmont of all time, and ran superbly great at all distances in between.
I will agree, though I will also say that even though Pat Day's awful kid gloves and baby hands rides cost Easy Goer, without the other, both Easy Goer and S.S. would have been dominant Triple Crown winners with only history as a benchmark, they did prove each other's greatness.
Easy Goer, just an all time champion who uncoiled and unleashed towering and overwhelming performance after towering, overwhelming performances throughout his career at the ages of two, three and even at four when his extremely bad annkles forced him into premature retirement. One of the greatest of all time.
Like that Bloodhorse top 100 book states within the Easy Goer article, "Easy Goer will always and forever be mentioned in the same breath with the greatest of all time", despite the awful kid gloves and baby hands rides that cost him by a nostril and desperate neck in two outs.
Easy Goer was always undoubtedly a top ten all time horse in ability,talent,constitution,heart,speed-stamina combo, with all of his all timer performances as proof of that, but the typically atrocious Pat Day riding that got him beat a nose and desperate neck in 2 races put him down into the thirties where ss always belonged.

As for the Belmont,it is quite clear EG was better at 12 furlongs at Belmont Park. Thats quite clear with his time of 2:26! But SS didn't fail to stay 12 furlongs. He went 2:27 3/5, which will win the vast majority of 12 furlong races on dirt! SS just flat out got outrun,no "reasons or explanations" needed here! But at 10 furlongs and under SS proved to be a BIG thorn in the side of EG! Yet the "reasons and explanations" for why EG lost fly like confetti in a parade!
Easy Goer, this is the greatest performance in any Triple Crown race since Secretariat almost 40 years ago, and Easy Goer had these all time performances at all distances, from sprints to mile to routes to the European and worldwide classic distance of 12 furlongs. And great point on NY being totally drug free back then, while every other state in the US was not.
Folks, this was in 1989, the late 1980's when New York was the only state that was completely drug free, and that included lasix, bute, clenbututoral, etc. That was the way it was and the way it should be today.
Easy Goer's record three year old mile of all time in 1:32.2, thrashing Secretariat's record by one full second and a tick off Dr. Fager's world record, and this devastating, monster, second fastest Belmont Stakes of all time, are the two greatest performances by any horse since Spectacular Bid in 1980, and Easy Goer's 89'Whitney and Travers are truly not far of these two performances.

@EASYGOERFLIES With all that said, which is true no doubt, Yet all 3 times he lost to SS there was always multiple "reasons and explanations" for why EG didn't just pound SS right into the ground????? Not saying EG wasn't great, but that black son Halo was his equal when it came to raceday! Winning 3 of 4 from that red horse clearly proves that!
Another phenomenal performance from the phenom Easy Goer. Easy Goer had phenomenal performance after phenomenal performance in his Hall of Fame career.

Amazing to think how many lengths in front of Easy Goer Secretariat would have been, and that on a hand ride with no whip.
