  • There's a controversy. Some people say there wasn't a moto accident but an accident when he was serving to Navy. Where is the true? And of course, Jerry Butler sang it better. We don't must forget it is a "live" rendition with its natural failures; but Gene Vincent's voice is very very more pretty than Butler's.

  • Gene was one of the greatest rockers ever but his voice could be so beautiful I could cry. To sing with such tenderness whilst clearly in so much physical pain is astounding.

  • C'est magnifique !!!

  • i dont like this cover and looks like he was on some kind of drug the way he cant stand still and kinda twitches a bit in the begining.

  • Thank you Thank you! footage like this is such a gift, we are so lucky to be able to see this.

  • Gene is so great love this song.

  • Those were the days... the musicans could actually play thier instruments.

  • @joriszsz Nowadays I think the instruments play themselves. Not a bad job but Jerry Butler and Solomon Burke are the 1st`s, incredible.

  • In July 1955 he was involved in a severe motorcycle accident that shattered his left leg which left him with a permanent limp and chronic pain for the rest of his life. He was severely injured in the car crash which claimed the life of his buddy Eddie Cochran. He died October 12. 1971.

  • What was he going in the hospital for? Did he have a bad leg before the "60 car accident?

  • @BenandJerryRig 1955 big moto accident

  • @BenandJerryRig

He caught that old rock & roll fever.

  • Didn't know that Gene Vincent has performed this truly beautiful song from Jerry Butler...Cheers for posting this, bro!

  • I was there as a teenager in the 1950's, my dad owned a "record shop" where the latest releases were bought, people could listen to them in glass booths. I always got them first! I remember when Elvis' first single was released. I was 14 in 1955 so the next decade was pretty fabulous. But I liked the music of the early 50's too. And all of the 1940's. I teethed on the Big Band Era music.

  • @lilarose1941 Too bad you still don't have the records from your dad's record shop. You must have had a lot of fun in school being the first one to know when the new songs came out.

  • gene vincent will never die dont you forget it

  • gene stayed at my dads when he visited england, had a good drink and a sing with my pops on the geetar! legend!

  • @vernonbigsby I would loved to know what Gene thought of the Beatles ;)

  • nice, they took jerry butler's song...

  • Rock N RoLL!!!

  • Precious Love for you Gene Vincet ! I respect and admire you ! You´re in Rock and Roll Heaven !

  • I really like this tones of songs... Take me to the fifties, and let me stay there forever and ever!!!!!!!!

  • @mickcah Thank you for your great comment!

  • love it love it love it hehehehe XD. =)) thanks for putting it here •^_^• =DDD

  • The Jerry Butler version is of course the most well known version. But, Gene's slant is so beautiful. What a magnificent talent. What a loss. What a legasy.

  • C'est une époque ou j'aimais encore plus le rock. D'ailleur, je l'aime encore..

  • i think he is one of the best rock n roll singer ever. with bill haley, little richard and jerry L. Lewis =DD ♥♥♥♥

  • is this the original version or jerry butlers?

  • True RocknRoll!

  • awesome

  • I saw Gene Vincent at the London Palladium in Nov 1969, he was backed by the Wild Angels. About ten years ago the original Blue Caps reformed and appeared at the London Rockers Reunion Concert. Gene died in October 1971.

  • Merci mille fois

A favourite singer and a favourite song

    Happy new year from Scotland

  • tu restera le plus grand

  • is it any wonder that this is who michael jackson was trying so hard to look like

  • Gene FOREVER!

  • like this song

  • This song Is Bad ass !!

  • why was he going to the hospital?

  • It's because in 1955 he had a severe motorcycle accident that shattered his left leg and refused to have it amputated, the leg was saved, but left him with a permanent limp and considerable chronic pain for the rest of his life. He spent a considerable time in a Navy hospital

  • First time hearing this version. I heard the original first many years ago and have loved every cover I've ever heard. It really is just a beautiful song meant to be sung and heard.

  • beautiful music!

  • It would be so nice to see "tough guy rockers" these days be able to open up like this... without going off the deep end w/ power ballads.

  • i love this song soo much :D

  • la plus belle voix des fifties, rocker jusqua ca mort

  • thanks again lee-loo for keeping his memory alive

  • gene black leather rebel the hot rod, the cigarette, the pose. america and rocknroll in prime forevermore johnny suede

  • The guitarist with hair hanging onto his forehead is a real distraction with his sensual

presence; it's hard not to watch his every move.

Such a nice version of this song.

  • Lol...yeah, I went back and watched again after this comment. Lol..he's really working this thing out...even if you can't hear him playin', his smolder is on eleven.

  • EXCELLENT...I LOVE IT

  • Nice version, great to see real rockers to do ballads!

  • can someone with 1/2 brain explain to me what the comment"grow up fag and take the buttplug..." has to do with this music?? besides a homophobe getting off oline..youtube seems to have more than their share of these morons

  • je ne me lasse pas a t,endendre gégéne meme a 61 ans

  • tu reste le meilleur

  • Jerry Butler was 18 years old when he penned this song - can you imagine that?? What a gorgeous melody. Thanks for bothering to share this! Please check out my video of this very song performed live by the Ernie Williams Band in 2006...

  • exellent gégéne

  • superbe

  • tu as été le plus grand gégéne

  • His leg. In May 1955, in Norfolk VA a woman (yep!)driver jumped the lights and smashed into him. His leg was almost severed at the shin, but doctors managed to re-set the bones. Vincent -so desperate to get back to performing- never gave the bones a chance to knit properly...a move which caused him pain for much of the rest of his life. Said to be one of the reasons to his heavy drinking.

  • I can't understand people who must write bad about a performer, in this case Gene. It's no damn competition and if you don't like it, crawl back to your cave and suck on your thumb. What's your big problem? Too big empty ego? Not getting laid?

  • check out a smile on guitar player at 2:35

    gene ur the one

  • soon in english

  • Did Gene Vincent die? I never hear about him..

  • Sorry, but Jerry Buler sing this song better

  • He had a beautifull voice. Gene you are singing now for the all another who are in the heaven. Peace

  • What a beautifull song. It's one of the favorit songs. Gene is singing for my brother, mother and father. You are in the paradise now.

  • God bless sweet Gene Vincent, and respect and love to all his many fans. Sad that the likes of the guy talking about the great Otis and insulting this performance can't appreciate another wonderful and much-missed artist.

  • This fucking sucks Otis Redding is better in every aspect when it come to performing this song.

  • Well yeah, but Gene is pretty good in his own right. But Jerry Butler straight owns this song. Period.

  • Grabar2- - you keep talking about buttplugs , fag and ass in all your comments. Being homosexual is nothing for you to be ashamed of grabar20 - all of those gay videos you have in your favourites eh !

  • Gene Vincent et son blue cap: un des plus grands moments de l'histoire du rock'roll

    This is Gene Vincent!

ice man or kenny vance, lol, they are not to be compared with a true Rock Legend

    N E V E R

  • Legend or not, he should have left this one to the Ice Man.

  • ONE OF THE BESTS

  • wow!

  • you know my name ?

  • can someone please post HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE from this town hall party video

  • one of the best Rockabilly preformers ever. Gene does a lovely job on this song.

  • love gene vincent love his beautiful voice

  • good belly rubbing music

  • best ballade ever but u.melody and rainbow its also superb

  • Call me crazy, but Gene Vincent was a natural for ballads. that beautiful falsetto is the best ive heard. He makes Roy Orbison, Jeff Buckley.....all of them sound average!! i love his rock and roll....but ballads was where this mans beauty shone strongest.

  • Voihan nenä, mikä sjungare!

  • is this the last time he and the blue caps played together?

  • NOVEMBER 1958

  • It's incredible what this man can do on a music like that

    (I mean so poor !...). What a talent !!

  • A very very under rated singer....In my opinion he's one of the all time great R'n'R singers. Just listen to this. Pure class!!

  • Gene sang some great ballads. You must hear his version of "Unchained Melody".

  • Romantic. Charming black and white video.Loved watching this!

    Thank you!
