  • No u can't use a transistor and a diode.Write in Proteus optocoupler in the parts selection and then select optocoupler-NPN. But as far as ac is to be controlled use one opto only which is MOC3020 / 21 etc. Don't use 2 nos MCT2E as shown. It is meant for DC circuits.Listen to the AV carefully. I have said that you should use MOC series for ac.At the time of making that AV Proteus was not having MOC series .So I had used MCT2E

  • sir , could u plz explain the function of zero crossing in opto isolator moc3041m

  • @Vivekananda7777gmail MOC 3041 is same as MOC 3061/63 the ZVS opto.Details view my opto LED

  • beautifully explained sir , but cld u tell me , what should be the width of the pulse at the led side or opto coupler , so that it is sufficient enough to exceed the holding current of traic . kindly reply

  • @Vivekananda7777gmail 1 ms is good enough for the led

  • Instead of using a pnp type OPTO which in any case is not manufactured I had used 2 NPN type OPTO with collector to emiter of the other connect and vice versa for that combination to handle ac triggering just for the simulation purposes. But actually one has to use only one triac opto not 2 as shown. At the time of making that audio Proteus had no library support for triac type hence I had used 2 npn type OPTO from the library and I have said that in audio which you might have missed listening.

  • No .pls note PNP type OPTOs are not available. Moreover pls note for ac one has to use MOC3020 or 21 as explained in the text and not MCT2E

  • I think one of those optocouplers must be pnp type transistor.

  • 100 ohms 2 watt and 0.1 uF / 600 volt in series, across the M2 and M1

  • @milabut this way this way this way this way this way this way this way, PLEASE is this guy & his accent for real !

  • @milabut does it make any difference what sort of inductive load is used?

If it, say, a half -kW motor (used with a big starting capacitor) - what would be the values of this snubber components? I am going to use MOC3083 and BT138-600E, but I am not sure about the parameters of those resistors and capacitors...

Could you please explain what happens when we use a motor instead of a lamp as a load? What could be the consequences of improper choice of components?

  • Could you please tell us something about the snubbing network for the triac ? I would like to run inductive loads.

    Thanks.

  • You may put some small value say 47 ohms Res in series.Even directly connecting is no problem. But most important is that the very port pin must be pulled up to +ve 5V by an external resistor of 1K from where the opto is getting the supply otherwise it will not work. AS suggested in the text donot use MCT2E but MOC3020 or 21 (or even 41 if mains supply is 110Volt ac)

  • From the microcontroller through the 2 optocouplers LEDs are any resistors required ? thanks

  • @judgenap While using MOC3020 or 3021 use pin 4 and 6 and not the way the MCT2E that uses pin 4 & 5

  • @judgenap And use only one OPTO and not 2 as is shown for MCT2E

  • @milabut how can we plot circuit in Proteus using optocoupler MCT2E.. that is not available, can we replace it by a transisitor and a diode..

  • Very good presentation, I love your way 1:20

  • My pleasure.Pls view the latest, write milabut in youtube search

  • Very interesting the interface with the microcontroller Thank you!!

  • Yes.But U hv to feed Zero Voltage reference(ZVR) to the Microcontroller (MC) as an input and then write the programe how much delay angle U want to from the ZVR so that an out put from the MC delays the triggering that much.

U may use a push to on button so that at every push it delays by some angle.

Donot use MCT2E as shown in the ckt.Use one number MOC 3020 / 21 etc.Noproblem whether it is 110V or 220V AC or 50 Hz or 60 Hz

  • Can i use this schematic to Dimmer using PWM on Microprocessor side ? And what's the components to use it on 110v 60hz Ac line ? Thanks a lot ! :) ( i am using Arduino)

  • are you using proteus as your simulation?

  • YES

  • but use MOC 3020/ 3021 not MCT2E as shown .One no of MOC3020 shall do.If you require ZVS use MOC3061 or 3063

  • can i use 220v AC supply in this project?

  • BT136

  • what triac did u use??

  • Very informative thanks.

  • thank you so much! great help! =)
