So what I gather is that Magnum TA was going to win the title at Starcade & would have been the new flagbearer for the NWA. Flair might not be 16 time Champ had Magnum not had his accident.
So what would be the best way to take a scaffold bump? Try to land on your feet but leaning back slightly with your knees bent? I know that sounds stupid and maybe easier said than done but...makes some sense.
I cringe when I see that now after hearing Cornette talk about his injuries from it.
You ever hop a really high fence or wall? That feeling of landing the wrong way with your legs straight out, feels like you're jamming your calves into your knees and your knees into your thighs. That's what it probably feels like. That times 20.
Ross is out and out lying. We were told by our carble carrier at that time (CableVision) that they could not carry Starrcade due to influence from Titan Sports on gaving to carry SS in order to be able to carry Wrestlemania. And WM was a money moker in larger markets. So they buckled. So JR - I might like you but what your saying is BSA. Plain and simple.
@SeanMBryans Yeah, Ross was a lower rung employee and is now acting like it was a something tdifferent than what it was. Jim Ross is a homer and Ric Flair says what works for his current position. Glad handed nonsensical yes men.
Starrcade has always been, for me, the greatest supercard out there. True, it didn't have the pyrotechnics and the lighting and such, but you felt an element of danger for every match that happened at the card. At least from '83-'91. The main events were always so violent and memorable. Every match had Main event feel. Vince doesn't even treat Wrestlemania like that anymore. He can learn something from the competition, instead of ignoring it. And this is from a long time fan from N.Y.
I'm sorry and disappointed to hear the negative reception Starrcade '89 received. I, personally, LOVED that particular Starrcade the most out of nearly all of them. The round-robin tournament was an awesome idea. For reasons BEYOND me, it has never been duplicated! Having a card like this in present times would be worth a double pay-per-view.
Magnum would've been a God. it's shame The NWA had a rough tough anything goes attitude but you could still bring grandma to watch lol. They really raised the bar they were between the grime and crime OF ECW and the Glitz and Glam of WWF. if only AWA had better people running there biz....verne gagne lol!

Aaaah - Fuck you Jim Ross and your retarded face!
Of course WWF blackmailed the cable companies!
I hate when WWE uses this guy to spread their lies or re-write their own history!

Magnum would have been huge, no doubt about that one. The scaffold match will ALWAYS rank up there as one of my favorites

Again a nice video,
Cool to see the early Lex Luger and Legion of Doom and Vader when they were at the Beginning of their Carreer
Now i am really interessted in Wrestlemania III to VI after seeing this
Great commentary here by Steve Austin and Jim Cornette
Oh and i clearly underestimated Ric Flair as a Wrestler

@LVSWTZ I think there were trying to make Magnum to NWA what Hogan was to WWE at the time, in my opinion.
