Besides Substance being available for PS2, too, it's not that much improvement. The additional VR-Missions are pretty cool, but the rest is more or less negligible. MGS3's re-release (subsistence) on the other hand, features lots of cool new stuff. Especially the better camera makes it a must-buy.

Twin snakes only came out for the Gamecube, Subsistance so was SoL I believe was multiplat, so Technically, MGS1 is because of twin snakes, but it was simply too old looking for a lazy port like subsistance. Also, there was plans for MGS3:SE to be on the Xbox so it was scrapped and MGS4 for the Xbox is out for the making, also a new MGS3 is coming out for the 3DS. Kojima doesn't love sony. Sony loves kojima.
