  • Would someone, PLEASE, inform Paramount that they have a great series sitting right in their laps with Star Trek: Excelsior?????? I don't care if George Takei is gay.. He can be a transexual for all I care. He portrays Sulu like no other. I would love to see the adventures of Captain Sulu and the crew of the U.S.S. Excelsior. Heck, you can even have his very young tactical officer, Ensign Tuvok on the show.

  • Stunning starship they over did it with the Enterprise B they should have just built an entirely new Starship for the B! Bigger than the Excelsior smaller than the Ambassador!!!

  • It's too bad a Sulu TV series was never filmed. At least they've written some books to comphensate, though. "Excelsior: Forged in Fire" and"The Captain's Daughter." Both of those are brilliant reads.

  • Such a great, missed opportunity. Star Trek: Excelsior, the show that could've been, and wasn't.

  • After all, the Enterprise was a Constitution class...it's not like there were any Enterprise class starships...

By the way, this trailer is really confusing...it seems to be a throw together of Star Trek VI footage, that doesn't make a ton of sense.

  • Sulu would be a better captain then Kirk, Shatner was never very serious or atleast didnt come off to be in the original star trek sulu made a very serious character not only that hes asian so he can do all the navigational math on the bridge while computing pie and commanding the ship...

  • "Target that explosion and " use it for the next Star Trek film.

  • 1:36, Helooooooo

  • "She'll fly apart..."

    "FLY HER APART, THEN!"

One of the BEST lines in all of Star Trek.

  • THE EXCESIOR IS NOT THE CLASS NAME. Sorry for shouting. But according to the copy of the blue prints drawn by Matt Jeffries, she is part of the Ingraham class. =Stefan=

  • @chengloki yeah and in star trek cannon and by nearly every trekkie in the world it is the Excelsior class, beside the first ship tends to wear the ship class name most of the time.

  • @stareagle11 Do you even know who Matt Jeffries is???He designed and drew the original Enterprise. He also designed the Ingraham class, of which the Excsior was part of. Here's one for you. I have a set of blue prints designed before Next Gen went into production, signed by Gene Roddenberry. She was part of the Centurion class. She had phaser hard points, instead of rings. The ship? NCC-1701-C. Drawn by Matt Jeffries. The first drawings of Enterprise-C. What are they worth? =Stefan=

  • The 9 dislikes are the only 9 people in the world who thinks that Enterprise turned out better than this would have.

  • "But sir we will fly her apart!"

    |"Than fly her part!"

    Sulu best captain ever.

  • @stareagle11 Best line in Star Trek 6 imo!!

  • Ohhhhhhhh Myyyyyyyyyyy

  • YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE KEWL...is if the Excellsior THEME was the Undiscovered Country Theme....I could see that.

  • @saquist I actually think that a good Excelsior series theme would have been to start off with the upbeat music from ST3 when she first appeared on screen, then jump into either a rehashed ST 2 or 4 theme. It kills me that those themes were so epic and awe inspiring but no one has EVER used them in a trek series.

  • @saquist now that be awesome

  • I would love to see an Excelsior class vessel in Star Trek online

  • @The8thDOCTOR there is i have 1 u have to buy it from the c store

  • @mrsexytart

mmm buying from the C-Store, I learnt my lesson

  • @The8thDOCTOR there are excelsior ships in the game I have one.

  • I wouldve loved to see a Sulu- driven Star Trek series, it wouldve been awesome!!!

  • @bigworf Naw, it would have been fabulous (and shiny).

  • umm ya rodan324 the USS Enterprise B is an variant of the Excelsior class vessel line...

  • @RC9831 Most likely a refit fixing design problems that cropped up during it's early life.

  • @RC9831 The Enterprise B is an Excellsior Class Starship/

  • the excelsior looks like the enterprise b

  • I must repeat what joness said, If they had created a series based on the excelsior with sulu as captain i dont see how it would fail. the excelsior is the 2nd most well known ship in starfleet it would have been an easy transition.

  • I Agree %100 someone Tell Paramount!

  • I changed out the toilet flapper on my Kohler toilet and I could not help noticing that it looks like the exelsior ship. I am not kidding, go to home depot and look for a toilet flappre that fits a 3 1/4 valve or Class 5. I love star trek and don't mean disrespect, but I had to share it. Hope it made you smile.

  • best ship by far!

  • I love that design. Everytime Scotty puts her down i'm like 'Fuck you too, lardass''.

  • I have to agree that it has a lovely design, however, I understand Scotty's comments :P

  • They reused the explosion of the BOP in XI... cool trib tho :)

  • You mean VII, or Generations?

  • This is one of many series ideas that could save star trek. Not abrams films.

  • i strongly disagree

  • so you think that by blowing up romunlus and vulcan and eliminating any possibility of ever exploring the established trek universe ever again, Star trek has a chance? Whats to stop abrams from blowing up kronos or even earth? Nothing! Don't get me started.

  • Romulus is sat there perfectly fine in the alt universe did. Nero inform the Romulan emipire of that era? If not I'm sure Spock Prime would intervine as logical cause of action would be to prevent history repeating itself with a never ending cycle alt universes. Nothing wrong with blowing up vulcan as this would lead Spock Prime to start the unification of the remaining Vulcans and Romulans earlier as they will have an eventual common cause. Change isn't always bad.

  • Star Trek 6 covered the near destruction of Kronos and Enterprise covered Earths near destruction with the Xindi threat so i'm sure these worlds are safe in the alt universe. Anyway why go over old ground when we have new stories to look forward too. The Vulcan would've had many outposts and colonies as they've been a space fairing race for centuries, we're not just left with two Spocks.

I'm sure Abrams will give a friendly nod to what came before.

  • Why? He have a rather unfriendly nod this time around. he stated publically that he hated trek, and the proceeded to wipe his but with the existing universe. I find alternate universes inetersting up to a point. Fact is that in the standard universe romulus is dead, unless spock and nero came from yet another alternate universe at which point abrams loses any relevece he had.

  • True he did say that he hated Trek but it takes a big man to take on something he doesn't like (and yes i'm sure a big fat pay cheque). The Romulans have a big empire again i'm sure they'll survive in some form heck they might unify with Vulcan (or invade it). In this senario i think we should agree to disagree. I do actually agree with you on somepoints but as with everything like this with large fan bases it should be taken with a pinch of salt. Role on Trek 2.

  • And hell yeah a mini series with Sulu on the Excelsior would be class.

  • It takes a fool to take on something they don't like disregard the fans of that which they dont like and expect it to come out good. case in point. I hate eggs. Always have always will. My wife doesn't cook but loves eggs. Untill I asked her how she liked her eggs, she complained about how bad they were.

Abrams screwed up here. Insulted a great deal of us. Abrams film just makes me all the more convinced that shatner was right when he said trek died with roddenbury.

  • I don't think he insulted fans by destroying Vulcan heck if Roddenbury couldn't be bothered to develop on something he created in TOS, TAS & TNG (up until his death) then why bother with it at all? after all he had over 200 episodes and 6 movies to it in.

It wasn't until Voy and Ent we got more insite into Vulcans after Roddenbury.

Alot of people like eggs even if you don't which is why they sell milions a year just as new trek made millions & created new fans which must be a good thing.

  • He wanted to develop it in TOS but lacked the budget. The klingons didnt get developed untill TNG and by then he didnt write any episodes he was just a consultant. Voy didnt really do anything with the vulcans, certainly not any more than had already been developed.

He insulted a lot of folks for a lot of reasons. 500 chars isnt enough. Icould write a dissertation on the stuf he did wrong.

You missed the point on the egg thing.

  • Budget reasons are not eough of a reason not to delevop something that is in every single episode. True he didn't write them but should he not of consulted on what he wanted on his show, but in saying that i'm sure he had iother issues with the network and so on.

I'm sure others would/could write a dissertion on what Roddenbury himself did wrong and what Abrams did right. We could be here batting the ball until cows come home but we just won't agree :-(

    Live long and prosper friend.

  • Regarding the egg.

I think you should be commended for cooking something you don't personally enjoy. If your wife is reluctant to actually cook it herself then she should thank you for doing it what ever it tasted like. But any good cook/chef should at least try what he's serving to ensure its right for the person its being served to.

  • For me I love eggs and enjoy cooking but I can't cook an egg to save my life. A never-ending dilemma I have every time I wish to enjoy a boiled or fired egg but I'll continue to cook them because I want to get it right at least once - should I criticise Abrams on one film no I'll wait for the next to pass a final judgement.

  • Roddenbury got pretty pissed at the networks after season 2 of TOS. after that writers only sent scrips past him for approval. Never took as active a role after that. Rick Berman made a ton of mistakes but all the more so after roddenbury died. Now abrams comes along and made it worse.

"others would/could write a dissertion on what Roddenbury himself did wrong and what Abrams did right."

Without Roddenbury there would be no Star Trek.

"All I see is a cowardly, honorless, ptach"

  • It would have been nice to see a Sulu driven series also. It's too bad they could not have done this project 10 years ago. Or even do a movie!!!!

I also agree, Abrahms is really wrecking the Star Trek franchise. I do not like what he did with that pre-quel movie. Sure, the special effects were great, but most of the main characters (except for the guy playing bones) were nothing like what Gene Roddenberry created. Mistake.

  • @Hanosaurus Star Trek: Excelsior would have been far better than enterprise, IMO. Takei NAILED it in ST VI and the episode of Voyager, and made a badass effing Captain. Not making this a series was a stupid mistake on the part of Berman & Braga.

  • Kronos wasn't blown up though, and niether was earth. Roddenbury never would have approved. I undestand that the vulcans were space fairing etc, but the fact is that they have now lost the vast majority of their cultural goods. The vulcans always were less developed as a culture within trek than the klingons. Now we cant ever see vulcan again. BIG MISTAKE! There can be no more journes to mt selenia, no more immortality etc. You don't know trek well do you?

  • I know trek well enough to know that it doesn't need Vulcan stories we've had three main cast Vulcans in 3 out of 5 series with more than enough cultural references in each. Vulcan as a planet is well boring i see that we've visited it enough within Spock, Tuvok and T'Pol. We know Vulcan and yes we know Klingons (but Klingons are popular and sell). Now i'd rather visit the Tholians, the Gorn or the Shelik i want to know more about what we haven't seen or heard much about.

  • "with more than enough cultural references in each"

    ahem?

Vulcans are at least as cool as klingons but we know far more about klingon culture than vulcan culture. The vulcans were the first alien race ever featured in star trek and yet we've never really seen their home planet (just a few incoherant location shots that dont mesh together), no real language, no concept of space ship deign, no knowledge of the extent of their colonization, etc.

  • Thats my favorite ship the Excelsior!

  • This is cool. Simple as that. Sulu, AND George, are cool. Nice post. Wonder if he'd do a cameo in my next movie....answers on a postcard....

  • They should have made a series just about Sulu and his ship.

BTW Sulu could be gay AND have a daughter. A lot of gay men have children. I think that would be a cool aspect for the character.

  • 1:34 -1:43 was my favorite part from Star Trek VI. :D

  • its the way Sulu yells at him.

    Lojur: She'll fly apart...

    Sulu: FLY HER APART THEN!!!!!!!!

  • I think the Excelsior class is one of the best lookin ever built by starfleet!

  • that's my favorite ship

  • 0:27 ... isn't the Bird of Prey a little big?

  • It's just a smaller ship the BoP is behind :O)

  • what were the scenes from 1:13 from

  • Scene at 1:13 was from Star Trek Voyager, with Captain Sulu making a brief showing. VOY

  • I'm sorry, is Excelsior and Enterprise B the same ship?

  • No, they're only of the same class. And the Enterprise-B is an Excelsior Class variant.

  • Keeping with Navy tradition the 1st ship of the type to be built give it's name to the class. Like the USS Missouri is part of the Iowa class Battleships.

The Enterprise-B was part of the Excelsior class of Starfleet ships.

  • No, The Excelsior class starship is like the prototype. Starfleet usually names the new starship class after its own class. Like The U.S.S. Excelsior is an Excelsior-class ship & The U.S.S. Defiant is a Defiant-class ship. As for the Enterprise B, it's an Excelsior-class refitt.

  • So there is a U.S.S. Constitution?

  • Absolutely there is. U.S.S. Constitution NCC-1700. It's a constitution-class starship. This ship is in the original series with the episode titled "Space Seed".

  • starfleet's first gay captain

  • is that a problem?

  • no he should be proud its a land mark achievement

  • If you really, logically think about it. George Takei is gay. Hikaru Sulu isn't considering he has a daughter.

  • it would had been a nice idea to let sulu have a series. I never could get into anything after next gen. everything after next gen sucked ass! and next gen wasnt that gr8!! ok some1s gonna get at me for that 1. but TOS is the BEST!

  • HUH whos the gay the japanese captai or kirk who haves sleeped with spock XD look at google for kirk and spock ther eul see them kissing and naked i ntheir bed

  • nice video i agree that excelsior is truly a nice ship, constitution, ambassador and sovereign looks all the same by its basics but galaxy class is way out of traditional design, even sovereign look more like a constitution...

  • You must be blind. If you looked at the sovereign and constitution class ships side by side, you'd clearly see that the constitution class ship isn't even as big as the sovereign class ship's primary hull.

  • He's talking more of the sillohete, the warp nacelles stretching back, the gold deflector dish, the sauce-stardrive configuration, the placement of the Quantum Torpedo Launcher. Its much closer to the original Enterprise in terms of everythings place. Though its still smashed and squashed all to Hell like a piece of modern art! lol.

  • Oh, ok. I'm the blind one, then.

  • Made a comment about you being blind a couple of months ago about comparing the constitution class ship and sovereign class ship. Sorry about that. commandox20 told me what you meant. Sorry again.

  • I would love to see Sulu and crew thrown forward in time to after the Next Generation times, it would be new for them as well as for us.

  • They should have done a series with Sulu commanding the Excelsior. It would have been a way of carrying on the the torch of the original cast. The special effects would have been up to specs. Voyager proved that.

  • yeah, i hated it that in the 1990s the TOS crew where just thrown aside. noting was done with them anymore. its also because of this that all the shows dont really connect. an Excelsior show, and/or Spock's reunification story would have been great ways to make all the shows fit more together. why even watch TNG or Ds9 as a TOS fan? their fine shows on there own but we dont even get to see a Gorn or an andorian. and why set three hole shows with mostly the same look in the 24th century?

  • The excelsior is my favorite ship!!!

  • E is a Sovereign Class Starship

  • No, E is Sovereign.

Original, Refit and A were Costitution.

    B- Excellsior Refit.

    C- Ambassador.

    D- Galaxy.

    E- Sovereign.

F-J- Who the hell knows. =D

  • You are wrong buddy, smunge is right.

  • nice mature answer and it's not even right (as several others have aptly explained already)

  • Oh man NEXT month these films (I - VI) will be on blu-ray! :-D

  • Anyone know which episode the ship being attacked at 1.13 is from?

  • While I'm not certain, I'm fairly certain it's from the Voyager episode "Flashback"

  • whoops. Mixed levels of certainty there.

  • @Sanfam Yes there are scenes from Vogager "Flashback " Then they came with the Uss Lakota with quantium torpedoes. Which was the Enterprise B .

  • @Sanfam yes it is

  • @flymogram Yeah its voyagers 'flashback'

  • Excelsior is the second ugliest starship in USS fleet. The ugliest is the Galaxy class. The Sovereign class is the handsomest and the Akira Class, the most exotic looking.

  • Enterprise D was Galaxy class right?

  • Correct. And Enterprise E is Sovereign class.

  • I didn't care much for Galaxy class myself.

  • Exactly. It's so butt ugly. Just like a fat lizard with its tail chopped off.

  • Yeah, even as a young kid it took me a while to get used to the Galaxy's design. I thought the Excelcior was cool though, had a sort of bulky look to it. Something like a smoothed out Earth Alliance ship from Babylon 5.

  • I know what you mean. I've never gotten used to the Galaxy class. Just looks rediculous. Excelsior in the movie moored in the space dock looks grand if quite unwieldly on its underside.

  • in the end of star trek 4 they were going to be given the excelsor but gene was against it because he thought the movies were rewriteing the history of star trek

  • you stupid fuck! Sulu's the greatest!!! :D:D

  • In Generations we learn he is actually married and has a daughter ;-)

  • @STINGNL It always feels like this former lowly navigator has (over a long enough time) received more on-screen background development than any other TOS character not named "Kirk," "Spock," or "McCoy." Nearly everyone else has had their growth occur at the fringes of franchise canon.

  • @Sanfam Sulu was the helmsman (Chekov was the nagivator).

  • the actor is gay, the character is not.

  • Excelsior ftw :D one of starfleets best badass types of starships ever built :D.

  • enterprise E is right next to it. the excelsior is the "original" badass, though. :)

  • heheh not to mention the big B which ofc was a variant replica of the original excelsior since the EntepriseB was in the same class as this ship.

  • good point.

  • habria sido genial que hicieran Star Trek: Excelsior ... Sulu me cae bien :)

  • Good job. I'd have given a 5 but I gave a 4 because you should have posted the copyright item for a few seconds instead of the whole video.

  • paramount get anal about that sort of stuff though :(

  • EXCELSIOR

  • The Excelsior is my favourite starship! Feel in love with it when I first saw it on the movie - best looking ship in the fleet! It's stood the test of time (they were still sending these beauties out on the front lines during the Dominion War!)

    Captain Sulu - legend.

  • would have been way better than that lousy prequil. TMP ere was the best!

  • Oh my!

  • Target that explosion and fire!

  • I remember when I was a kid that I personally thought that the Excelsior was by far the coolest starship ever built. The Excelsior is one of my favorate starships. Now I know no one will agree with me on this thought, but I don't know about Sulu being captian of that ship. I always thought Chekov should have been made Captain of that ship. That's just my artistic thought.

  • yes but chekov would have said: 'vlee her aparrt thin, kulak'.

    (lol, sorry couldn't resist ;)

  • I'm all for that. Infact, let Chekov do that. :)

  • i love how the bird of prey is a small ship but with powers of the enterprise

  • I really wish they had listened to the fans and made this the new series instead of Enterprise. The idea of Enterprise was crap to begin with, I hate it when people do prequels to classics. The only thing interesting about " Enterprise " was T'pol's chest size. Star Trek: Excelsior would have been a winner from the start.

  • want something on topic? Excelsior>>>All. no commentary.

  • I was happy to see the Excelsior in action in ST6, it would be nice if they made a series with the Excelsior.

  • The Excelsior and connie-refit are beautiful ship designs. Excelsior's engagement of Bird-of-prey in ST 6 was one the best moments in trek history.

I tried building it out of Lego once.

  • Excellent video. They really should make a series on the Excelsior.

  • NICE!!! Here's to Sulu, and the coolest looking ship in the Federation!!

Sorry Kirk & Picard - but -A and -D can't touch Excelsior for looks.

  • How about the Excelsior-Modified Enterprise B??

  • Excelsior on "steroids" - can't stand it.

    Original was the cleanest looking.

  • actualy dumbass what Bassmanll is referin to is the Excelsior variant known as the entepriseB which ofc happens to be int the same ship class as excelsior.

  • u mean refit

  • No, the Enterprise B was not refit, it was built that way from the keel up.

  • yea but it is a exelsior class refit but on stereroids

  • ah well there's only one thing i can say to that: 'ay, and if my grandmother had wheels she'd be a wagon' ;)

(i'm an original TOS Enterprise fan ;)

  • it wasnt a movie

it was an episode of voyage

where tuvok remembers his past on the Excelsior

  • what movie is it at 1:19?

  • It should have nacelles were a bit awkward...But the overview of the Excelsior was well done, very detailed...damn shame it completely replaced the Constituion class

  • Pardom the typo...

Meant "It's nacelles were a bit awkward...

  • moron thats how they were built on excelsior i mean common look at JJ Aberhams version of the Enteprise i mean this to be honest would outmuscle JJ Aberham's enteprise in speed but idk about power.

  • The communications officer on Excelsior was Janice Rand, Kirk's secretary in the original series and the transporter chief in Star Trek I.

  • Would have been epic. Absolutely. fucking. epic. shame really.

  • Oh no worries, I enjoyed it.

  • Yeah, your comment is, kinda.

  • I'm sorry, but there's absolutely no effort to mix the music or anything. I have high standards.

  • Paramount made another mistake by not picking the Excelsior plot line. It would have lasted longer than the Enterprise storyline and been far better.

  • to true m8 it was way stronger

  • thats why they kept the excelsior class only a few classes from TOS era are still being used like the apollo and miranda

  • Wish Paramount would have made a series around Enterprise NCC-1701-B instead of Quantim Leap's Backula Enterprise. Never could get into Enterprise. Anything before Kirk & Spock sucks! Either make new series about Enterprise B or pickup with end of Voyager or Enterprise E story.

  • I kind of agree there. There are two Enterprises we know virtually nothing about, save that one was famous for the apparant death of Kirk, and the other for it's destruction saving the Klingons. An excelsior series or film would be good also

  • interesting idea mate you should wright to paramount

  • man the Excelsior and the Constitution class ships are my favorite!

  • Constitution and excelsior were the best lookig ships.i dont like the new ones...those old ships had class...ur rigt

  • When Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered in 1987; I thought the Enteprise D was the most ugly weird looking ship. The saucer section looked like a hub cap, and the secondary star drive section was the most crappy looking piece of crap I ever saw. As the Ferengi would say "how ugly, very ugly."

  • The enterprise D did look....awkward, but it looked better than the Enterprise A in my opinion

  • It looked hideous, with its stubby little nacelles and giant head. It looked like a midget.
