@romayy Yes, but many of the kids will say that it's the 1990s because they grew up in the 1990s. I wouldn't say the 1980s was better than the 1970s. 1990s was very good, too. The late 1990s and beyond is when I would say there was a major decline for me.
That actually was an Brenda Lee standard from 1972 and before Willie Nelson in 1982 there was a very popular Elvis Presley version in the same year with the original..

I absolutely still believe Pet Shop Boys made the best decision by covering this song. Still, to this day, I believe "Always On My Mind" by Pet Shop Boys is the best cover EVER.
1987? really that late? they were always my favorite group, and they played a lot of them on the radio station out of louisville kentucky when i was in the army. then in '87 i arrived in L A and discovered depeche mode!!! oh yah!! and i guess they'll always be my favorite, although, i recently discovered "the ravonettes" and man they are HOT!! ok, i guess they are my new favorite band. : ) but pet shop boys will never die, they had so many wonderful hits!
I'm getting rather confused about the eighties/nineties music I remember from a kid....
I remember this song... but I'm wondering, was it pet shop boys who had a music video set in a castle, in which the vocalist was going to marry a girl, and he ended up being a vampire?
I've always adored this song, which is a shimmering jewel in the sometimes barren landscape of late-1980s chart music. But I only found out recently that it kept "Fairytale of New York" from being Christmas no. 1 in 1987. Now I love it twice as much!
I used to force my brothers we were 8, 10 and 11 to listen to this song over and over while we played with He-man aha no wonder i turned out gay :P LOL
Unflushablepiss, I'm 33 and feel absolutely the same as you. I've grown up in life, poor, but happy. What I've valued and will always will in life is my mum, dad and little brother. Argos back then stocked those personal stereos. Saturday's was about going to your local music shop and pickin up an LP, Cassette or Compact Disc. Bruno Brookes was your DJ on a Sunday and life in general was prosperous. Unfortunately in comparison to the past, the current just doesn't make me feel as wholesome.
@LIVERNIL723 Well said! its not just the new generation, its the simple fact that the times have changed (for better or for worse). even though times have changed at least the music we all love and appericate is still around and always will be as long as fans are out there. not only is the song great but it also gives a rush of emotions. weather it reminds you of the time, family or friends its pretty freaking awesome to have a song (might sound gay) that brings "joy" when hearing it~ cheers all
I recall dancing to this song in the 8th grade. This is one of the first songs I ever got to dance to with a girl. Simple pleasures of growing up in the 80s.
wow although i was born in the 80's, songs like this make me wish i was a teenager/young adult in that era so i could enjoy music like this when it first came out. this song produces a ton of emotions. besides making me want to dance (even if i do look like an idiot) it also makes me think of someone special. cheers to anyone and everyone that can appreciate music from another time!
@nadsabtam Thanks indeed! I was a child of the 80s, too young to appreciate this the way it was intended perhaps but brings back fond memories nonetheless.
@Unflushablepiss i was and it was the most fantasic time of mylife i had my family my freinds and could get into a pub underaged and i danced like an idiot
@neiltoddington thats freaking awesome man. i know i would have had the most amazing time if i were part of that. These days are not bad but i think it was different back then. I would have loved to experience it.
@Unflushablepiss Being a teenager in the 80s was the greatest experience ever. Best time of my life - unfortunately, this decade was far too good for me as there hasn't been a single day since then without thinking of that time that lies behind me. I would give up my entire life for the chance of reliving even a few years in the 80s - sorry for the poor english
@Unflushablepiss I enjoyed the music and really enjoy this time (for me, the golden years) The Brazilian radio play today (the most traditional of course)
Ps.: I used the online translator google, I'm sorry if you have any errors in translation.
if you listen to this song in 2012... thumbs up... :D
