this is all about religious control - the liturgy, the traditions, the false doctrines, the unbiblical hierarchies -- it all has to do with silencing the true church while at the same time retarding their spiritual growth... and make a killing all at the same time.
Everything no, EVERYTHING about the organized church is wrong! Building, pastor rule, pulpits, sermons, choirs, denominations, organizing, programs, pews, unbelievers in the pews, Christless fellowship etc....I'ts not 'church" it's General Motors.
I agree 100%. I once worked with a troop of street preachers who taught that the preaching in scripture was done in public. so the meeting of the saints is not the biblical place for proclaiming the Gospel but rather for the saints to build each other up in Christ. I don't say that people should not preach it's just that the church meeting is not the apropriate place. the church meeting has another funcion. so let's all encourage one another in our homes to late go out and preach. hallelya.
interesting, but...what do I do with this information? Do I stop going to church until I find a chuch that does it right? do I challenge my pastor/church to do it right? thanks
Yes, I believe synagogue liturgy did effect liturgical patterns. But scripture shows some differences between early Christian church practices and liturgy (e.g. use of gifts.)
I think the verse commonly (mis)interpretted as referring to frequent church attendance is Hebrews 10:25. (In context it's talking about "forsaking," i.e. forsaking the faith altogether)
It's the implication of "forsaking" that most pastors miss. I attended a Baptist church for a while and this verse was interpretted to mean "be there every time the doors are open" - if you missed once (for any reason) you were "forsaking the assembling."
AW Pink says "What is here dehorted is the total relinquishment of Christianity. It is not 'Cease not to attend the assembly' but 'forsake not.' Abandone not the assembling of yourselves togethr. It is not the sin of sloth or of schism which is here considered, but that of apostasy."
I think the key here is to not focus on whether I have to go to church. I think the relevant cross-references are Acts 2:42, which describes how the Jersualem Christians were "devoted" to one another and the numerous allelon, or "one another," verses. It's clear that each of us should devote ourselves to a local gathering/ekklesia, or church, and submit to local leadership (Heb. 13:17).
AW Pink: "The Greek workd for 'forsake not' is a very strong and emphatic one, being a double compound and signifies 'to abandon in time of danger.' It is the word used by the agonizing Redeemer on the Cross...It was used by Him again when He declared, 'You will not leave My soul in hell.' It is the word employed by Paul in 2Tim4:10 'Demas has forsaken me'.
Pink drives home his explanation: "It is found in only one other place in this epistle where it is in obvious antithesis from (Heb 13:5) 'He has said I will never leave you or forsake you' Thus it will appear that a total and final abandonment of the public profession of Christianity is what is here warned against." from an Exposition of Hebrews by AWPink
Hard to fit things in these little text boxes. Interesting comments. The video focuses on the part about what to do when you assemble--exhort one another
I got sidetracked by the comment at 1:04 about sermons. I agree with you, btw - the way we "do church" now is a far cry from the way it's described in Scripture!
Just teaching the Bible. Historically, groups known as the early church, Anabaptists, Quakers, Plymouth Brethren, 'the Little Flock', and the house church movement have caught on to these spiritual truths.
I have gotten part-way through that book and picked upa few tidbits from that in regard to history. I have a number of house-church type teachings, some on prophecy in a Biblical church meeting. Some in Indonesian.

what about the Jewish worship pattern in the ancient time? The modern worship style is just shaped by Greek tradition?
Thanks!

It says not to 'forsake the assembling of yourselves together.'
