well, you will use more energy to RE-heat the home when you are in it. so really, your plan is not working to the best.

Wrong. Thermal energy does not have "momentum" the way a car does. You will always save more energy by turning the heat down/off than you will use heating the house back up again, whether you turn it off for 1 hour or 1 year.

Get a New furnace. Oil or Gas furnaces are more efficient than ones 20-30 years ago

I'll hand you the fact that they are more efficient. However, they let off a HUGE amount of gas waste, which decreases the ozone layer, plus it makes our air toxic. Oil and gas are more efficient, but the old-school furnaces let off less gas emissions.

Our temp is set at 58 all the time. We dress like it's winter in winter. I'm setting here in my thermals, sweats, thick hand knitted socks and a hoodie, I'm comfy. Layers :)
