@Pappiloncat Merlin's 'magic' language, as you call it, isn't made up. It's old english. Every spell is a direct translation of what it does. For example, 'Forbearnan' is used a lot. It roughly translates as 'to burn up, consume by fire'. Which is exactly what the spell does.

In the DVD comentary for this episode the guys say that they gave the guy who wrote the song a lot of different languages to look at. In the end though the guy decided to just make it all up. The spells themselves are in old english but this song isn't anything.

Why are people giving this comment thumbs down? I know the Lord of the Rings music VERY well, and it has similarities. The most prominant is the rise and fall of the strings in the background near the beginning, that gives the impression of waves. The very same effect Howard Shore uses in the Elves' themes in LotR. The are other similar aspects, but I'll stop now. XD
