  • 09:09 - no love for Federer :)

  • So hard to say what happened with Safin. His movement in 98' was wonderful; it looked like Miloslav Mecir. Then it started looking more choppy. He improved his serve, as you see here, but his ability to cover the court, and that ability to just keep throwing tough balls at the opponent dissapeared. It seemed like nothing bothered Safin early in his career. I remember watching him play Guga and AGassi in 98', and they could rattle him. Same with Sampras in 20000, Pete couldn't shake him.

  • @Polarcupcheck He had numerous injuries. Especially in 2003 and 2005.

  • @davd1986 Definitely. I think the knee went on him in 2005. However, I think this guy received some bad advice in his career fitness wise. Just my guess.

  • the enxt year they had THE MATCH

  • Only if Safin wouldve changed his style and be better with his backhand and adapt to the better players weaknesses but he was stubborn and therefore wasted his talent that i believe was as good as Federer in those early days

  • IMO federer was a far better player thosedays than he is now

  • @Mirren81 wear and tear

  • Safin a waste of talent

  • This is exactly Federer in his Prime time.

  • six years and a new AO for roger .siw years in world number one.

  • I wish these videos were in better quality... even with HQ, the ball is barely visible.

  • fucking creepy pundits and commentary or is it just me?? and why are those three trying to sit on each other at 1:47?

  • This was the last tournament before US Open 2008 which Roger entered not being seeded 1st. I don't know if there was a player who was seeded 1st for 18 consecutive Grand Slams. Probably Sampras entered more tournaments seeded 1st in his career, cause he spent more weeks at no 1, but in a row?

  • @nuncjusz1 Never. Sampras traded no.1 with many players during his time. He managed to finish no.1 in year end race for 6 years consecutively because at his time no one can win 2 slams a year, only sampras could win up to 2 each year. So his seeding for grand slams were always traded.

  • Thank fucking god they changed the colour. Fucking green m00r?

  • You can even see how good Roger improves from then to now. Brilliant.

  • You can also see how good SAFIN was at the time. Brilliant!

  • He could have beenn so much better, if he had put the work in and become more consistant, but I think his personal life was more important to him, I think he regrets it now tho. Shame coz he was a good player.

  • he just loved to party. haha

  • Yes, with his black eyes I dont believe he has stopped.......lol

  • you serious? fed was better back then

  • Federe is everything safin SHOULD have been

  • who was ranked number 1 at this time

  • Roddick.

  • nope it was fed?? wtf man...

  • Roddick was ranked number one until Fed replaced him.

1:20 Look carefuly: Current ATP Ranking: 2nd

  • Roger used to look cool back then

  • Well, some people like the ponytail, some like his hair short like it is now.

I personally prefer how he looks these days...more 'grown-up'. :)

  • I think Roger's current image looks fantastic! :) Much better than the ponytail days.

  • @JesterToy Well the ponytail reminds me of the days when he was young and his game was flourishing, reminds me of deadliness haha, jsut look at his results in 2004

  • Yeah as a dude I prefer the ponytail as well...he looked cool as hell. This and the 2004 US Open final really epitomize him at his absolute coolest.

  • mary carillo looks like a guy as usual. i hate her! she is the worst commentator ever!

  • aniekos, do you have this video in High Quality?

  • Does anyone knows what kind of wilson's racquet Federer used in that moment?

  • wilson prostaff tour 90

  • Does anybody have the federer's matches from 2004 olympics?

  • THANK YOU

  • thanks man i knew you would get the match
