all american stereotypes are wrong since, EVERYONE CAN BE AMERICAN, SINCE THE NATIVE AMERICANS ARE THE AMERICAN INDIANS, PEOPLE OF ALL NATIONS JUST FLOCKED TO THE CONTINENT DUE TO THE "AMERICAN DREAM"
anyways only 60% of americans are white, and guess what, they're either polish, german, scottish, austrian, british, dutch etc.
@chibikaos I think the point is that there is a (wrong) assumption that Caucasians are the the only Americans, hence the blond-haired blue-eyed thing.
I hate steretypes but the "doing everything together" thing, from what I've seen is pretty true, I'm not asian but I have a lot of asian friends and when they all hang together in a group neither I nor anyone else who wasn't asian wouldn't even dream of trying to join the group. Theyre a bit like elitists...
Lame. I see large groups of whites hanging out by themselves all the time but no one makes any big deal of it. If you're an asian trying to join in the conversation, you'll be given the cold shoulder. But of course there's nothing wrong with that. Only asians should be considered "elitist". That's what racists love to think.
The drinking stereotype is TOTALLY false. I know this Korean dude who can't hold his liquor worth a damn.
The cowboy stereotype is true, though. I personally wear a cowboy hat and drive a tank. I leave my guns at home, though, because I don't have room for them in the tank with all the Bibles I have stacked up in there.
@NewColdness Just cause you met ONE person doesn't mean jackshit. It's a fact that traditional asian liquor is stronger then western one. If you've ever gone to any major asian city, you'll take it for granted.
What asian people really think of american, as the rest of the world does, is that USA is a tradition-less country, with no nobles, scientists, writers, artists, philosophers. A country that finds value exclusively on money.
@NewColdness Are you kidding me? The cowboy stereotype is even worse than the gentleman one!! Almost no one here are true cowboys. And only the people in the south wear cowboy hats.
Only in their own school systems. The american school system doesn't use the voucher system, which was voted down, which is why public school in this country is in the shiter.
I don't know who the hell made this video, but it's wrong on so many levels. I may not be racist or prejudiced towards others, but my mom and dad, being Asian think Americans are ugly, fat, and hairy. Americans, in general, don't think Asian men can handle alcohol - sometimes that's true and false. Doesn't matter.
I know a huge number of stereotypes about Asians, and I've never heard a single one of these, except that Asians eat rice (but not spicy food). Did the person who made this poll anyone?
I'm Asian-American, born and raised on the West Coast, and I drive "slow" -- meaning the speed limit, or just a little bit over. On the West Coast, if you're not getting out of people's way, if you're slowing down people driving 85, then you're driving too "slow." How dare I turn right in from of someone! The nerve that I have! How dare I change lanes in front of someone, keeping them from going 90! I'm so rude!
Funny that someone even gave my comment a thumbs-down. They must be one of those selfish, arrogant drivers who think that it's everyone else's duty to get out of their way. To know that they're going to turn in front of them, or change lanes even when they don't signal. I don't know why people don't signal anymore. It's frustrating. I'll be at a four-way stop, there are people who don't signal. On the freeway, people don't signal they're going to change lanes. It slows everything down.
What also bothers me is how, specifically, when drivers are in those exit/entry lanes (with the dotted line), and they don't signal they're going to get on. I'm just supposed to know they want to get onto the freeway. But, sorry, if you don't signal, I don't know you're merging in. If they would just signal, things would go smoothly. Just the other day, yet another moron didn't signal, so they cut off the person a couple cars in front of me, pretty much bringing my lane to a near stop. Sigh...
The crazy drivers part is so true. I'm asian I should know. My mom is like always saying asian ppl can't drive and i'm like mom ur asian. she just doesn't want to admit she's a crazy driver. Oh others you should mention is ppl think were all smart and were all the same .
Some of the Asian stereotypes depend on if your talking about Japanese or Chinese, since most Americans think all Japanese people live in big cities, (Which is false), and think all Chinese people live in the country side.
I have heard bad drivers, eat rice (Not the spicy food part, though), that they allknow martial arts, and not the others. More common stereotypes are that they look alike, and that they are overacheivers.
yea, um ok. im half of each. so i know both sides of the story. i DO like rice, don't have blue eyes, expensive cars or fake bags. And a lot of those drawings seemed to have depicted japanese/chinese or blond southern americans. yea, umm ok- what happened to the rest of the continent? asians could refer to russians and americans can refer to the amish. no one ever thinks of them..wtf?
Just because your half and half doesn't mean you know both sides. I'm half black and half white, and no. Not all black people like watermelon and grape soda. but brb, I gotta water my watermelon plantation.
And was there a message in this video? Because if there was, it wasn't very clear. Or were you simply pointing out all the "characteristics" of the stereotype? The question you had at the end "What stereotype did you assume today?" doesn't give a clear message but it seems like you tried to get you point across with that just one line.
The Asian point of view of Americans wasn't very accurate. The American poiint of view of Asians was except for the drinking part.. What I mean by "accurate" is that the average general viewed stereotype, not from "this" part of the coast or "that" part of the continet.
That was interesting, I've never seen the asian view of american stereotypes before. However I used to work in a chinese resturaunt and enjoyed it very much. We would all eat dinner together after work and we would teach each other our languages (tiwanese, indonesian, english) I still only know a couple words though and they spoke very, very good english. It kinda made me feel dumb but they were very nice about it.
I'm asian but I've never assumed that Americans are so gentle and rich...lol
