my friend has serious audios and visuals. i listen to his nonsense and tell him not to be ashamed, basically i just try to be supportive. is there a better way? or more i can do in his episodes? i am bipolar and there was no helping me when i was psychotic. just time and tranqs. he is very set in his ways about meds and he refuses to stop with the energy drinks. what is the best help in and out of episodes? i know you aren't a doc...but that makes your opinion all the more valid.

@popstarViolent I would say try to be as compassionate and kind as you can muster. schizophrenia is a very frightening state. if you can, encourage him to take meds, but he might be very resistent to it and may even think you are plotting against him. still, it is worth trying to make a dent. try not to take things personally that he might say to you that are offensive or mean. most likely he doesn't mean any of it. tell him how you are bipolar and how much the meds help. being a friend counts!

This phase is not fun. I'm crawling out of the eternal night still. You get the moon. I told you you were yellow to black. I would have gone blue, but they kept telling me about it. Yellow is paradise, but it's a scary one, so I cut it out, but the green keeps going acidic, struggle. You don't see it. You're yellow, green to blue with a little purple. Suffocating yourself.

Every since I was a teenager people have been telling me my mother has schizophrenia. Yet, if it is true, everyone in my family always denied it and did nothing to encourage her to get help. So, I am wondering, does she have schizophrenia? My mother's memory is horrid and she used to go on a tangent for hours a day screaming to an invisible person incoherently (whomever she was angry at which was everyone). Next, she would be the person she was screaming at responding in a scared sorry voice.

@Ebbykin she just doesn't have control, and she's isolated. My lack of control causes oral fixations (fight or flight) as I'm preparing for stress. It can get really special. My intuition is hyperdeveloped. I call them symbols, and I'm sure my card is in the Dresden file. I've started to play the cards since we're all Poor Unfortunate Souls, the animal inside with its realization-dimensions within we all hide.

Just becaue you are parinoid it doesn't mean they aren't after you. It is a weriod way of thinking but it can be done. The "crazy mind" is just misunderstood. If it interferes with your daily interactions and your quality of mind then go to the dr. But usually they will over medicate you. Ps. catatonic schizophrenics do not move or talk. And people please stop confusing multiple personality disorder with schizophrenia. It is way different

yes, people often have some symptoms even while on medications, but it varies with each person. my own symptoms are so greatly reduced that pretty much no one notices anything abnormal :)

If regular thoughts also appear, do they sometimes conflict with the delusional ideas, so that you become aware or half-aware that your thoughts are delusional? I imagine delusional thoughts to be similar to ideas you have in a dream, when you are convinced that what you're thinking is correct; or when you have a fever and also think things that are out of touch with reality.

It is a lot like living in a dream actually. It is that same sense of weirdness when you believe things in the dream that can't possibly be true, but for some reason it makes sense in the dream, so you believe them! Also, yes, sometimes rational thoughts come in and when there aren't too many delusions a person can combat the delusions with regular thoughts...unfortunately, it doesn't hold up too long...

There was a brief bit in the hospital, but that's just because they drugged me. B4 that, I knew and fought it bc if u know u have a problem u aren't crazy, so I was like, I've got some time, and I can see it. I've had some thoughts like that sex would kill me, aliens were in this one country, and dead people were in the elevators, but I knew they weren't, but they were. I sometimes wake up in my dreams, same thing. Place? Me too. For experimenting an no one would know. I got my proverbs right :P

Its scary as hell when you think everyone is lying to you. Then they start asking you idiot questions that of course you know the answer to. It almost seems like they ask the idiot questions as a distraction from the lies they are telling you. Once you think everyone is lying and you start acting strange, well they start treating you strange ...that never helps in thinking they are treating you correctly. Thank god it only lasted a week.

i have bipolar disorder, but i have been psychotic. i had a hallucination once, while i was in the ER, and i thought people could see me though my mirror and tv, so when i changed clothes, i had to sit down so nobody could see me. in the hosptial the doc said i have schizo affective disorder, but my doc said i have bipolar. and i agree w/ my doc.

sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference btwn bipolar and schiz. symptoms, but usually bipolar ppl have depression and mania. sometimes the mania can lead to psychosis. whereas schiz. ppl have the psychosis without mania at the same time...not enough room in this box to write everything, but the differences are sometimes subtle. a well-trained psychiatrist is needed to make the proper distinction usually...not a lame question at all!

I have always been fat, but yah, the meds have not helped with the fatness and have probably helped to make me fatter. I have seen a beautiful mind and I like it a lot...dramatized, yes, but some aspects are similar. Thank you! :)

there is some debate about whether or not there are different types of schizophrenia or different diseases lumped together. What they normally say is that some people just end up functioning better than others, and it depends on medications and life circumstances and stuff too. Sorry to hear about your mum.

I will think my husband and kids are against me, and trying to kill me or it is a Government plot against me. But at the same time I know it can't be real so I try to fight it. IchBinky, sorry you had a confusing time. Confusion is not fun. My psychosis was confusing too, but I had a lot of freakish delusions. I too thought the hospital I was in was some kind of secret government location. (Underground military base, etc). Delusions are quite peculiar. I'm surprised there aren't more movies made about them. Thanks for sharing your info.

were you scared through all of this or just confused? i am always terrified something similar will happen to me since it runs in my family and my sister was very delusional for a long time.

i understand the idea of confusion quite well since i get that pretty bad with my anxiety disorder & meds brainfog - but i've never had anything as serious as what you're describing here!
