To answer the wages question... As a 1st year RRT in California, I made 100K+. But if you want to make that kind of money, you need to go to a real school that is fully accredited, not a trade school (and get your RRT credential).
By the time you graduate, the hospitals expect you to be competent and independent everywhere in the hospital (not just the floors). The trade schools usually don't provide enough instruction & education.
@violaspwr can u please give me some advice on your educational background, and the RT program u went through? I also want to get into this field, but i dont know what schools are the real deal. By the amount u make I assume u have a degree, and attended a great school, or schools. Any info would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!!!
SCREW nursing. What a crock. RTs have it made. Yeah, in general, less money than a nurse, but tons less stress. And remember...the more MEN you have as RTs and Nurses, the LESS problems you have at work.
Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't. The money isn't worth the frustration and mediocrity. Not to mention that a lot of your coworkers will come from those fly by night technical college/puppy mill programs. My suggestion, stay where your at and go the course
Could it be because they worked more in school than RT's, but the pay is almost the same?? I have alot of friends n Nursing and the req's are really crazy. The same for OT. That's what interests me. How high is the income for this career field?
@azerious85 thats because there jealious that you alsmost make the smae amount and have less than half the headaches and run around.. RTs are specialist in there own feild. RTs deserve just as much respect bc they get called when some one stops breathing.. Doctors even refer in to RTs for there input.
Do Respiratory Therapist changes patient's diaper? Why do Respiratory Therapist fly helicopter? Why don't the hospital have any helicopter Pilots? How many week is the Respiratory Therapist Program, Is it 6 weeks or 10 weeks program?
Respiratory Therapist doesnt change diapers nor to scratch pt's nose nor clean vomits. If you want to be a one you have to take all the pre-requisites and sciences that are req'd to get into the prog. Then you have 2 years full time plus the clinicals for Associate Degree or 4 years full time plus the clinicals for Bachelor's degree. Be prepared for the 2 board exams. The 2nd one is divided into 2 types of exams. First is a 2 hour written exam and the second one is a 4 hours Simulation exam.

I pulled 60 with my associates as a 1st year therapist. totally the best bang for your buck in terms of school.

@6x10x23 Actually RT's make as much as a RN. RT's work from the belly button up, RN's work from the belly button down..lol

I've talked to plenty of RT's turned RN's who say RN school was a breeze....
My RT reqs were exactly the same as my girlfriends RN program except I had to take physics 1 and 2 and she didn't....
