The laughter at the beginning is justified (kinda).

Everybody turned a piece of paper so the audience could see them (you can see them). The bari player "forgot" to flip his... so the audience sees F U _ K.... then the alto player (me) "reminds" him to flip his over to reveal the word "FUNK"

The laughing during? I dunno, its a high school talent show... so what can you expect?

I think stfu is for classical concerts. Original jazz always had a "healthy" dialogue between performer and audience, including shouting, catcalling, hollering (the odd gunshot) and other musically-doubtful contributions. Adds to the excitement. Sometimes helps the player(s) too.
