I also want to add that your cage is VERY clean. Budgies are messy little buggers, but you've managed to keep it very clean.

Also, I love that your birds are flighted! I find that flighted budgies are more confident and happier. Plus, it gives them great exercise.

A couple of suggestions.

a)Water bottles are a breeding ground for bacteria.

b)Wooden dowels are bad for birdy feet. Go to any local pet store, and they will have a wide variety of different types of wood perches. The more variety, the healthier your birds feet will be.

c)They do need some toys. Even though they have each other for company, they need to be kept busy..

@Vulpinepath it depends on the reason why the bird has gotten there. it's always a good idea to adopt instead of buy a new bird, but often the birds are very scared of humans and can bite. it could take a lot of work to train it back to normal.

Oh and for the perches, make sure you get some natural sticks and perches other wise the feet and legs can get arthritis from the same shape they are always in

is petco the same as petsmart?? because there is only a petsmart around here and i was wanting to get a parakeet from there. they all seem very active and healthy. any replied would be greatly appreciated.!

I. Want to get a parakeet i have a 40 pound lab husky dog i want to know that if i go on a vacation for a week would i have to have somebody watch my bird or will he be alright when i go on a vacation i take my dog to the kennel were she can run and have fun for however long i am gone but they dont exvept birds at the dog kennel so what could i do with my bird while im gone

@86yukon you can get someone to care for him, but if you really want to you can just leave him enough birdseed to last a week. but try to leave a mirror in the cage so he's not so lonely

seed arn't good for your parakeets feed them pellets and you should no feed them anyfood with colour cuz there is dye in it ...anyways CUTE BIRD

actually,it's better if you get them at petsmart.my blue parakeet is from petsmart and lived for five years and is still living. my other parakeet witch is green is1 and 1/2 years and is still living and they are mating wright now with eggs also.

you missed a couple things!!! you missed the perches like you need different diamenters, and why did you put the cage on the toilet? are u a boy or girl? it sounds like a boy (sorry if your a girl) o i almost forgot, about the cuttlebone and millet, you NEED a millet! not only does it act as a treat, but it helps as meds. you are very right about parakeets being the pets being the best pet ever!!!!!!!! :) comment when you can ~bird lady~

I find it unfair that so many people have this negative attitude towards buying animals from petco and petsmart. I have always bought my parakeets from petco and petsmart. I've owned 4 so far and the newest bird, I bought in the start of february 2010.

I've never had any health problems with them. They were all very easy to train. My newest bird is a beautiful recessive pied and he's doing great. I got him trained in less than a day and he's very health.

i work there and the amount of care that goes into the animals there is more than you think. there is nothing wrong with the animals you buy from petsmart or petco. if they die its YOUR fault... most of the time

I agree. I have never had an animal from petco or petsmart die prematurely. When they died, it was always because of old age and it was time for them to go.

you should research that, but breeders are always best. chain pet stores that aren't really specialized on pets but pet food usually are bad at keeping healthy pets. Kind of like buying a "veggie" hot dog at a vegan restaurant. They aren't specialized on that, so the hot dog doesn't taste good.

Ones from pet stores do die fast because theyre in large quantities that its over crowded... my bro got one from petco and a month later it died....we had toys, food, water, cuttle bones, treats, and a huge cage for it....
