I can beat that...My 180G slim died last week of GPU failure after 5 months.

Got it replaced at the store with a FREE upgrade to the Silver 320G slim...Now 4 DAYS later the new one is starting to show greenish graphics after 30/40 mins of play!.

All i have done since getting it re-download Gotham Imposters and had one game on it!.

joegally9 wait a few days then after that get some mini fans put them behind your ps3 where the air fents are then turn your ps3 on your fans should start working and your ps3 will stay cool.

what the fan does to your ps3 is that it pusher cooler air inside and it pusher the hot air outside of your ps3 and your ps3 should stay cool afterthat but make sure you dont play it 4 to 8 hours it will mees up your chip and the you will get ylod and that can be messsy.

There is always going to be problems with electronics . They are going to fix it or send a new one. I find their customer service very nice in Canada. And as with anything for every 1000 perfect playstation there is going to be at least 10 that malfunction. But good luck to you! And don't lose hope too soon.

Step1 unplug the power plug.

Step2 press and hold down on the eject button

Step3 while pressing down on the eject button plug in the power plug than keep ur hand on the eject button and wait 3 to 4 seconds n the fan will come on and once the fan cones on it'll clean the system itself out than once its finished it'll cut off than try to turn it on and maybe it might work. Have you tried cleaning the fans? It could be that somehow dirt got inside the fan and is causing it to overheat. I've had my slim for a while but I've never had it overheat. It could be possible that your PS3 just has a bad fan. I've haven't had much problems with my PS3 at all and I've had it for at least two years.

Bro I've had my 120g slim now for maybe 2 years. It just started turning off on me, not even the red power button would be on after it shut off. I took it apart cleaned out all the dust, still does it I dont get a warning screen saying its too hot like you though. It just shuts right off. I unplug the power from the back of the ps3 and plug it back in then I can start it up again. I noticed the fan doesnt kick on high anymore so I use a box fan pointed at the system and it hasnt shut down since.

its not the vents when the ps3 takes air in it pushes it against the heatsink fins all the dust build up is on the fins and is blocking airflow my bro had the same prob took it apart cleaned the fins, 1 it does not overheat, 2 it is much quieter

i had this problem , all it was was a faulty fan, theres a mini fan inside your ps3 that cleans part of the motherboard, and there common to be faulty which causes this problem, other wise ive never heard of any 120GB Slim ps3 to overheat, there very ventalated systems and are brilliant.. all i did was unscrew the top of my ps3 and un screwed the fan and replaced the red and white cables and it now runs good as new.. good luck with your system mate ;)

I went through same shit i had the fat 60g ps3 from release and died on me sometime in 2010 now i have the slim and so far so good. Unfortunately these things happen. A minor bump in the factory or on the delivery truck could of damaged you console. Although don't you get a manufacturers 1 year guarntee anyway. Games consoles now seem to be designed to last until the warranty has ended and then they break. But when they break they have been designed in such a way that it is cheaper over a long term basis to buy a new PS3 and get hours of gaming instead of getting the other one fixed because repairs are so expensive.

To fix that problem. Don't play too much.. Every 2-4 hours give it a break.. Put the ps3 on standby mode to cool it down(the cooling fan runs even on standby mode). Not only your helping the ps3 not to overheat but also you're giving your eyes a rest..

I bought a 160gb PS3 Slim from Bestbuy on June 19th. It sat in its box for 2 weeks before I purchased games. About 30 minutes ago (13 days later on July 2nd) I popped Crysis 2 in and got the exact same message as you that it was hot and that it had to shut down. I've tried about 5 or 6 times; every time the game goes to the loading screen that message pops up. So... I haven't played a single minute and the piece of shit doesn't work. At least its still under warranty.

I had to send my new PS3 fat back to sony a long time ago, it was one of the very first models, i got gta 4 and i was so happy to play it so i put it in, and it took about a half an hour to load. So as the game is starting with the opening cutscenes, the screen dims black while i can still hear the sound. I thought it was part of the cutscene but the game wasnt being read properly. So Sony sent the box to me, $500, and i forgot to take gta 4 out of the ps3, so some bitch is playing my game! lol
