  • y r you holding you bow sideways?

  • Your explanations are wonderful, Mari. I hope you read this, you have in you the mind still of a beginner violinist and understand that many of us need these detailed, intelligent explanations and the reasoning behind why you do what you do.

I've had two teachers, and I've always felt that being so successful, they forget what it feels like to be a beginner, to not understand. I love your videos.

  • num tindi naaada :(

  • Hehehe... it seems like my finger is also sliding slightly when I try to roll my fingertips... and now my wrist hurts. Hahahah :p But I think I am getting it... gradually... (and a year will pass before I get it right, hope not o.o)

  • Just got myself a violin, damn hard to deal with the thing even thou i've been playing guitar for the last 13 years, which i thought would have helped me. This vids are really useful to help me understand how the instrument gotta be played!!!

  • What is the teachers name?

  • It seems like all the pros never use first position... What's up with that? Does it have to do with tone, or is it just showing off?

  • @DeeVeeSone Actually, vibrato is harder in first position. Easier to learn in 3rd - 5th position, I think...

  • Simple but works (:

  • I got my Violin today and when i saw it i cried at how beatiful it is! i think im gona have fun learning.

    :)

  • Hi Mari... I'm on a process for a Violin Master scholarship but I dont feel ready. There are a many techniques that I dont know and I really need a teacher to help me improve in this area. I will like to know if I could go on summer so you can give me an intensive violin course. can you also send me your teaching prize details, on how much do I pay for the class and if is monthly or per hour...Thank you!!! I really like your teaching method...

  • Hi my name is Cecilia, I really like your violin teaching specially on the vibrato, I have a few months learning violin and I wasn't able to figure it out how to do this technique. I will like to know the name of this teacher and the school or university where you teach. Please send me to my email your information, I'm looking forward for an scholarship in this area but I know I'm not ready yet..I will be grateful if I can get in contact with you.....

  • @TheCeci777 Thank you! I am glad that you are such a positive violinist! I am a private instructor from Orange County, California, USA. Mari Haig marihaig@yahoo.com

  • hur voice reminds me of Frenchy from Grease

  • ¡ Bravo ! Bravissimo! that is i learn see you video . amazing . congratulation

  • your amazing, ive always wanted to learn the hard vibrater

  • This was great help!

  • This is so dumb. The whole point of moving further up the fingerboard is so you can pivot against the violin to make sure movement is coming from the wrist. She doesn't go far enough up to get this benefit. She must be taking the p**s. And unlike sicksicksick9 she is not funny.

  • @mrwasbesonders There is another tutorial that I call the Trolley Car exercies that does just that, the hand travels way up the fingerboard so that the wrist movement is learned.

  • Comment removed

  • @marihaig Firstly my apologies for being impolite before, however my basic precept about the exercise still stands. I remain puzzled as to why you don't just move a little further up the violin to demonstrate the correct motion for learning a wrist vibrato so the hand can pivot against the violin. And the video entitled the "trolley car" strikes me as being more of an exercise for learning arm vibrato as opposed to wrist as you just stated.

  • Ah thanks so much. This really taught me how to do vibrato! I've been watching so many, yours helped the best! THANKYOUUU :) You're very talented btw

  • this is not good... she has a dirty vibrato.. she should study a bit more...

  • OMG! 607 videos??? Damn...

  • I have a question, do you really need a shoulder rest for vibratos? why?

  • @Fi2pianist you kind of need a shoulder rest to play violin or viola

  • thi is exactally howi learned it super helpful :)

  • Wow thanks for your help! :D

  • thnk u soooo much i can play carman with vibrado sound sooo much better

  • That was super! I've wondered how to do that for years. I play mandolin and it's difficult at best. Much strength required to play the double strings. I can't wait to try this!

  • Wow, trying this with gel nails was a bad idea... Always make sure your nails aren't too long :P

  • Man you make this look easy, and I've actually made progress in vibrato.... 5 stars(:

  • I can't move me fingers!!!

  • T_T.. I will buy a violin ^^

  • still uploading more tutorials please love me.

  • thank you so much i´ll try really !!!. jajaja yes finger lock

  • Comment removed

  • FINGER LOCK!!!! FINGER LOCKK!!!

  • WOW! Ur really good!!!!! :D

  • My fingers are like stuck ... not moving =(

  • good video, thks!

  • thank you because im stuck with arm vibrato but my arm gets tired quickly so this should help:)

  • Wow, what an excellent demonstration. Now I think I can try this. I like that you showed us the difference in what happens when you move slowly compared with quickly. Nice sound results when done quickly.

  • Thank You! I tried doing Vibrato like every other tutorial on Youtube, on that you have to bend yuor finger, but I cant do that so Its awesome to find a lesson where I don't have to bend my finger! THANK YOU!!

  • ugh, for some reason I can't get my verbrato to sound good when going quickly, and I'm not sure why!

  • wtf my orchestra teacher said i waz doing it wrong nd i did it da way da lady is doing it in da video, i'll tell u guys right now my orchestra teacher iz kinda of a rasist

  • @laninablanco10 That's because it's not common to do Hand Vibrato, its more likely for someone to do Arm vibrato.

  • Great tutorial! Thanks!!

  • Thank you! Very very helpful :)

  • good tutorial

  • Comment removed

  • actually, that's really personal choice. classically speaking both sound good.

  • you are wrong animefreak. our ears naturally hear the higher notes and since our ears naturally hear the higher notes, the vibrated note will sound sharp. Do some research before saying something as ignorant as this.

  • Comment removed

  • obviously u dont kno. i dont even understand ur second sentence. what does space of to do with anything. No duh the sound is stuck between 2 notes. The note you're aiming for and the note below. If you prefer notes that sound sharp that's up to u but saying it's supposed to sound in tune isnt ignorant at all. What am i being ignorant of? U can say anythin is personal opinion but i'm sure most people wanna listen to their song in tune. If you wanna keep the notes in tuned, ur supposed to go back.

  • wow that was really pretty thanx for the advice! my parents say we cant get lessons so i was trying to find how to do vibrato on the internet

  • @zzsalee same with a lot of my friends lol

  • @zzsalee Good luck kid!

    :)

  • @zzsalee Same here, only I'm the parent! lol
