It sounded as if she's rushing it.... take time... this is a waltz(: I think the left hand needs to be lighter too. This might shape the music up a bit(:
lot of credit's got to be given to this kid for playing such a tough waltz...i'm 20 and can't play it... but emotionally too low... i feel these little kids shouldn't be made to play chopin without understanding him...i feel one can understand chopin only when one's about 18-19 yrs old... no music without understanding...no emotions without understanding... guess this girl wound become a great pianist like jung lin some day...
@satyu131089 I disagree on that. There is no specific age where you suddenly understand him. You have to play him to understand him. If you don't, how are you ever going to? Ofcourse, the musical interpretation is not that far developped with a kid that young, but let her play chopin a lot, and she will.
@MrMgriend it''s like asking "why not feed newborn kids with pizza and pasta???"... they ought to be breast-fed and later introduced to pizza once they grow up....haven't you seen the movie "shine"? when the protagonist's father asks the teacher to teach his kid some Rachmaninov, the teacher says "he's too young for it"....
@satyu131089 This is a bad comparison, because eating pizza is not good for babies, while playing pieces without understanding them can do no harm. Maybe you're afraid they will develop a certain style which is not the right one, but I believe that later it can be bent to something more musical.
Also, Chopin is THE composer for young people, while Rachmaninov may be better off with older people. Which composer do you believe can be played at a young age?
@MrMgriend chopin is not really the music for 10 yr olds certainly... barring almost the whole of this piece, almost all of chopin's music contains grief in it, sorrow, regret... kids wouldn't have a clue of those emotions... even the middle section of this minute waltz is too much for kids....
@satyu131089 She must certainly have a teacher! Why didn't the teacher correct it? She certainly has the skills to play it better. It's not a question about difficulty. It's about making it sound more fun!;D. Like the whole story of Chopin being inspired by his dog chasing it's own tail.
@satyu131089 I think you are mixing the themes of Chopin's music together with the technical difficulties of his pieces. Please don't tell me you honestly think this valse is a deep emotional complex piece of music. I played this valse when i was 8 the first time. I think your interpretation of the piece is very loose. It is difficult to respond to your post. You are jumping a lot between the lines. And no grief and sorrow isn't main parts of this valse. Else what would you call his etudes???????
@Ianthe22 read previous post carefully... the grief and sorrow part is not about minute waltz... and what are you defending? and do you argue that this piece has been done justice to here? if yes, i don't wish to argue anymore.... pls understand that music is way more than pressing the right keys....
@satyu131089 You start off by saying she can't possibly understand Chopin's music right? Mainly cause of her young age. Well Chopin has made a large variety of different music. So there is a lot of Chopin's music which can be perfectly understood by young pianists. Please do the girl the justice and give her some fair critique on the particular video which is posted. And if you have noticed i did answer and mingle in some of the previous posts. You are jumping a lot around in the lines.
@Ianthe22 i definitely give credit to her dexterity of hands... no doubt.... i agree i can't play as clearly.... and she's doing just about the best for her age...point is that it leaves a lot to be desired when you close your eyes and hear....probably cos she's not old for it....
@satyu131089 Hmmm... guess you don't want to discuss the content of some of your previous posts. Well, enough of that then. Regarding the playing in this video. i think she's talent. The performance however is not very good. For a Chopin piece her right hand is not dominant enough. Her strength decreases halfway through. Tbh i think when she performed this piece she must not have practiced the piece many times. But for a 10 year old it is a decent level of playing. she must be really good by now
@satyu131089 whoops, haven't seen all your posts until now. satyu, I still haven't heared you call a piece which is suitable for young people. Could you name me one, and tell me why? Thank you.
@MrMgriend You didn't ask me, but i think both composer can be represented by young people. Rachmaninov also enjoyed playing Chopin. They seem quite connected tbh. satyu131089 is misinterpretating things. At least that is how it seems to me. he's misleading everything. It seems he has misunderstood parts of the movie "shine". He's comparing Rachmaninov's most difficult pieces to Chopin's most easy ones. If he's comparing Rach's nr. 5., 3. to the minut valse.. evidence he has no clue whatsoever.

She's like moi: She can do the difficult, but not the simple; like this one.

@MrMgriend You are being very modest. Chopin is often a lot more simpel.

great! it is a bit too strong, but then again she's ten so really....it's amazing.
I did notice that she didn't hold that trill from the 70th measure for very long..is it just because she was going so fast?
It did sound a bit rushed to me.

It sounds as though the piano needs voicing.
the hammers sound flat and hard.
They sound as though they need pricking or re-felting.
