  • Woah, I never seen him with hair before xD

  • I have 2 of these... the failure rate is phenomenal...

  • Can I use this as a boot device on XP?

  • 4:22 wtf lol

  • this guy never blinks :D

  • @zazathegreat using non-blink 3.0

  • my gigabyte motherboard can support this without the card.

  • i cant wait for this to fail on my pc..... ;)

  • mine is Western Digital 3.5" 2TB 7200RPM 64MB SATA3 is that better than the 3tb in speed

  • Cool =OOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • 3:17 "Linux users will take care of themselves"

    Ha! So true!

  • me you:D

  • What do you mean "You People"? 5:40

  • One Seagate fan was here

  • you have to blink!!!!!!!!!!! no death stare.

  • i will lose a staring contest to this guy....

  • Awesome, since there's no halogen in it and such does it still run as good as the normal drives?

  • Comment removed

  • You should do a review on the OCZ Colossus LT Series OCZSSD2-1CLSLT1T 3.5" 1TB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive #LOL

  • What do you mean you need a GUID to format the HDD and get the full size?

  • The environment doesn't need any help :)

  • this guy looks like stone cold steve austin :))

  • Beautifully explained.

Will this also work in the new Sony L-Series All in One?

    Thank you...

  • Will this work in an external Lacie enclosure (D2 Quadra) on a Mac running Snow Leopard?

  • I can get two 2tb WD green HDD's for one 3tb WD green drive :F

  • Glad you have done a review of this HDD Elric, just about to get one tomorrow and this Bus host stuff is new area for me, so i'll guess i'll have to use it with Win7 x64, cheers for clearing that up for me.

  • almost two years later and it's still 209.99 dollars wtf?

  • @auesr They should release higher capacity drives it seems that HDD is reaching saturation point where it is now getting slower in capacity increase.

  • why dad work uses 95

  • who still uses XP

  • @AhmedFromKSA my old laptop does

  • so here we got the future's porn box, we will not have to hid it under our beds anymore

  • does the SR-2 have support for all 3tb

  • i jacked off to this.

  • can i put this on a 2010 mac pro?

  • I wish my ipod touch had 3000 GB.

  • @computertechdude1234 in a few decades it will be normal xD

  • u can get this drive for 165 shipped from ebay, host bus adapter is not needed if used as a secondary storage drive on win 7 64-bit.

  • review starts at 2:38

  • Is TLER enabled with this drive ?

This would be crucial for Raid environments, especially when using hardware raid controllers (assumed they support 3TB drives...)

WD removed the TLER feature from their Caviar Green EARS series, so you will most likely run into big trouble when the drive is repairing bad sectors...

Oh - BTW: is the idle timer still set to 8 seconds (causing massive load/unload cycles which probably destroy the drive a lot sooner than necessary) ????

  • What If u want to use it as a storage drive? Would the system still read 3tb?

  • Just out of curiosity. Are you too concentrated on what you have to say about the products that you forget to blink or do you simply just forget to blink?

  • Who is the hell would use it as a boot drive. This was obviously created as a storage drive. Especially people who use HTPCs.

  • i just cum

  • wtf? how do they? i don't even.

  • the price is really double, when you got that much space, you need to use a raid 1 array, so that you dont loose 3TB of your files.

  • That Hard Drive isn't good to install an Operating System, mostly Windows... Not that it's not gonna work but if you want a gaming PC then better get a 7200 rpm disk like WD Caviar Black.

But it's a great disk only for storage!

  • damn macs.

  • MotherBoardorg you should post a link or something to a place where we can see how much it is and a place where we could buy this lol just an idea :)

  • there was a time when i partitioned my 1 gb HDD into 4 drives. Now we have 3TB! HOLY MOTHERFUCKIN SON OF JESUS.... 3TB! I could have partitioned that into 12000 drives or could I? won't i run out of alphabets? what happens if i have more than 26 drives??? what letters does the os use???

  • The BEST end-user solution for backup ^_^

    Dropbox + 3TB Drive anyone?

  • no point using this as boot drive since its so slow

  • mey man can I use RAID 0 on ma old IDE harddisks .... I have to harddisk nd the motherboard is intel DG41RQ so plz tell me...... nd nyc review man

  • ....... Damn! 3TB, that's alot of files to lose if the drive takes a crap.

  • you must be retarded to use a drive bigger than 1TB for a boot drive... these are deesigned for storage.

  • Finally!!! sumwhere I can store my vast collection of midget pronz! ^O^

  • @YonOtto hahahahahahaha.... hahahhaaha.

  • Cool stuff! I'm not an environmentalist, but the power features for all of the WD Green drives are the bomb!

  • what real size after format : 1.5tb is 1396gb

    2tb i guess that is 1.8tb

    and 3tb ?? :D

  • It's massive for a single drive, but I'd just string together 6 500GB drives in a RAID 0, which is $100 more expensive, but same capacity and MUCH faster.

  • Nice review, this explains alot. :)

Although I would buy 2x 1,5TB if i would need that much storage capacity, since that would save me alot of money

  • can u use a 1tb green with a 1tb black WD drives as 2tb

  • @amishbrap yes

  • I just got 2 TB one hehe =)

  • Comment removed

  • =o=... im juz using the 1tb version of this

  • XP died :D

  • i will wait til seagate release the 3tb i got already 2,5 tb drive without any addon.

  • omly a few weeks ago i found out there's now a 1tb pendrive

    now a 3tb hdd

    whats next

    servers i guess

  • i will need this for my hd porn hahahha

  • Who would use one of these drives as a boot drive? It seems pointless to use a 3TB drive as a boot drive.

  • I only just got upto about 1TB(2x 640GB Western Digital Caviar blue's) that I'm not even using 3/4 of it =/

That's some serious storage for... pornography fans hahaha =P

  • wouldnt it be cheaper to get two 2tb drives

  • how bout linux?

  • I've got 2TB internal storage, then a 2TB and 1TB external hdds. Haven't quite filled them, but getting close (almost 4TB filled). That said, "filled" is most of my games installed, all my (and everyone elses) music, a shitload of movies (including full TV shows) and so on.

    All legally purchased, of course.

  • @bersaba ye... sure...

  • "Linux users will take care of themselves"? wth does that mean!

  • Wow, if i get this i will have to stop saying "im running out of space" for life

  • Wow, this drive makes my 300gb look like shit.

  • Jesus, just 4 years ago people were getting hyped about 500 drives ._.

"New drives reach a phenomenal 500GB in storage space"

    Man times move quick

  • Why the fuck would someone need 3TB ? seriously ?

  • @ThePenguinProduction 3tb for porns, still not enough

  • 3TB :o sadly no 7200rpm

btw: @motherboardsorg when will there be AMD 6xxx gpu reviews? :)

  • where this could be good -

    SSD as boot drive

this as data storage/ aplications/ games

  • 5400rpm is slow.

  • how many motherboard can boot from this

  • 3tb but 5400rpm.. pretty slow :(

  • finally a 3tb drive

  • i just got 2tb WD GREEN 7200rpm))) I don't test that one because i know that will never be faster than my ssd)

  • Most people would surely but it for storage not a boot drive :p

  • WD needs to make a Caviar Black version :)

  • love Western Digital hdds got 2x 1tb and 2x 500gb myself

  • Nice drive. I need something like this for editing hd videos. No need for fast drive just a lot of free space. I wish I can get that in here Finland too :)

  • SSD FTW

  • k, why would someone wanna use this as a boot drive? its slow as molasis in january.

  • "Linux users will take care of themselves"

    LMFAO

  • maybe someday they will make a 10k rpm 64mb cache 2tb drive... the best of both HDD worlds.

  • Good vid!

  • Honestly, 3 TB is great but i am sorry for this statement but it is vary true. If we were to use our technologies at 100% capability We should already be at the point of 20+ TB. That will never be possible because of man hours and money spent on production and mock up. But this is still cool to see happen.

  • damn i wonder how many tb thier will be in 10 years 500 5b s good enough for me

  • so what's the formatted capacity? 2.7tb?

  • HOLY 3TB? I'll be getting this for PR0NNNZZZZZZZ

  • I only just bought a 2tb samsung drive

    677gb x 4 platters

  • what is the rpm on this drive?

  • @j7x54 5400RPM Sorry man, my bad forgot that one...

  • @motherboardsorg Although this doesn't necessarily mean anything, the benchmarks are far more important. I've seen 5400RPM drives run just as well as 7200RPM drives as far as read/write goes.

  • @motherboardsorg who would use this as a boot drive, an idiot I guess.

  • @motherboardsorg i guess it would work better as a storage drive anyways. It would take a while to boot.

  • @motherboardsorg I was wondering the same thing lol. For that I'll just buy 3, 7.2k rpm 1TB on raid 0.

  • @motherboardsorg

    Thanks!

  • @motherboardsorg Yo the higher the rpm the fast it works? i dont know wat the revolution does for hard drive can u explain

  • @motherboardsorg isnt it 5400rpm idle and 7200rpm load?

  • what is the L chache

  • @j7x54 All Green Drives are 5400rpm durrr

  • whats this whole 1 month thing? What about the "systems" are going to change in a month?

$0.07 cents per gb... wow thats a good price.

  • best computer hardware channel on youtube imo

  • Unix filesystems ftw.

The HAMMER fileystem is awesome for storage systems too, wonder if this'll work just fine.

  • Comment removed

  • huh??? what is this boot drive thing??? help plz.......

  • @MovadoDaSaint you wont be able to install xp in this drive it will no boot up!

  • The price for these is not really worth it thought since the much faster samsung spinpoint f3 1tb 7200rpm drives are cheap as chips these days that you could just buy 3 of those for cheaper. I guess if your down on case space but hmm. Also anyone that wants to use a slower green drive as a boot drive is pretty silly! storage only :P

  • @JohnAngusFTW Dude the price is $200 for a 3TB drive that is a great price!!

  • @motherboardsorg are you saying that because you made a video about it, or is it really your opinion? ^^

  • @Alkia12 Saying what exactly Mr?

  • @motherboardsorg LOL you get so many arrogant comments. This is one of my favorite channels but its plagued with morons who comment before watching the video (or so it seems).

  • @motherboardsorg

You can get 3 Samsung F3s for less than that, and they're 7200RPM.

Heck, you could put them in RAID.

    And it's still cheaper.

  • @TheAdarkon yeah but, what if you have a HTPC and you don't have the port available for 3 drives.

  • @coliwood

Then you need to ask yourself:

Do I really need 3 terabytes?

If yes, go ahead and buy this.

  • @TheAdarkon hell yeah!

  • @JohnAngusFTW It won't be silly as a boot drive for budget systems.

  • @JohnAngusFTW u cant have a 3tb boot partition anyways

  • why wont they just release the drive in a month, when its ready?

  • XP does not exceeds our gaming potential, it doesn't even support dx11, if you want to use it as a favorite OS, you can do that, but it's not the best anymore.

  • WD Green are perfect for storage drive. I would not recommend it as a system drive.

I'd say get a WD Black or WD RE4 or a ssd drive for your system and a WD green for storage !!

  • as great as this product may be i will never ever need that much space. im fine with 500 gb.

  • and that is why linux is awesome cuz you don't need to go thru hell and high water to install a massive drive as a boot drive

  • motherboardorg is there going to be a black caviar one too?

  • who uses xp?? o yea NOOBS

  • @Ksquaredgaming Try to spell and XP is a very good OS and so is 7.

  • @Costerguy1234556 I know 7 is good, but xp is an almost an 9+ year old operating system ...

  • @Ksquaredgaming It will be supported for years to come and some users dont need all the stuff with the new OSes

  • @Costerguy1234556 lol just sayin', 7 is the way to go...btw XP does not support tri-sli ......................HUGE problem for me

  • @Ksquaredgaming you're right.. it's like still using windows 98 in 2008. it sounds weird.

  • @Ksquaredgaming its 8 years old....

  • @Ksquaredgaming i use xp to run the cash register

  • @chrisfur2 nice ....

  • @Ksquaredgaming yeah, and to play old ass games.

  • @Ksquaredgaming about 52% of the world still has xp so i guess half the world is noobs :)

  • @vipor29 wow, more noobs than I expected

  • @vipor29 Yes, they are indeed :)

  • ...I Saw Johnny Vegas ,..in Reno...

  • time to install one in my HTPC

  • Good Video...

  • WD FTW!! So grabing one for storage when I get the cash lol.

  • will my ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme do 4K

  • Western Digital FTW!!

  • Great review! I'm definitely gonna have to pick this drive up as a storage drive.

  • Omg you people work fast, I just found out about this drive this morning from a few blogs and you already have the review for it, great job. I hope your review for ati 6xxx cards will come out soon too

  • Sucks it won't work on XP

  • 3TB? also green lol

  • 3TB thats huge!!! for a single drive

  • @Blimp01 proberbly fail in a few moths anyway

  • @Blimp01

pretty huge, but it has kinda slow just 5400rpm, but if just for storage i guess its OK

    =)
