Thought I'd heard every scrap of the mighty Zeppelin in existence....I was wrong and this is great! Thanks for posting!! I hear a Trampled Underfoot feel to this one. Page and Bonzo really stand out.
I walked up the stairs one evening into my friend's room and his brother was playing the song "Black Dog". The year was 1975. I had never heard anything like that song before in my rather short musical experience. I almost fell back down the stairs. The tempo, the timing, the intensity. It was love at first riff. 36 years later I still can't stop listening to this band
@johnwaynegacy94 I'll save everyone else the trouble by simply telling you to stay off Zep video's if you don't like them, and with all due respect go and FUCK YOURSELF!!
@johnwaynegacy94 lucky for u, me telling u how i feel online wouldnt accomplish anything but be glad were online and not face 2 face cause i would stomp ur ass to the beat of BONZO'S bass drum !! fuckin spaz stay off Zep's video's if u don't like em...!!!! Most critics weren't impressed with Zep at first. It took Zep IV to prove that they were legit to the dimwit critics. They were seen as a an American Blues ripoff band till then, which is exactly what they were. But they were the GREATEST American Blues ripoff band, because they added English folk, Asian mysticism, Funk, Jazz, Classical & Magic to the mix. And Ballz, huge thunderous Ballz.
I'd take an obscure Zeppelin outtake over 99% of the garbage they're trying to pass off as music these days. Damn, that's sad, but Zeppelin rules, so fuck 'em.
@MrRokinrob so many people only talk about page n plant, then bonzo, its time JPJ got his due, he even said something at the R&R induction ceremony, he was glad they remembered him, he was and is a great musician and an integral part of led zeppelin!
@331Grabber yea, it was really pages band and rightly so, they coulda had zeppelin without jonesey but think of all the great songs they would've missed out on!!!! pages heroin addiction was one reason they were great but who knows how they woulda been if he was sober????
@jroxx11211 I agree. I also imagine if Bonzo hadn't died they would have made 1 maybe 2 more albums into the early 80s before they drifted apart. Robert was gonna go solo eventually no matter what. Though like the Stones I think they would have reformed and made more new music. I was hoping Plant Page and Jones would get together and make some more new music. I know Robert doesn't want to revisit the past so I figure they name the new band Unleaded then there's less hype to live up to :)
@331Grabber i always thought they would wait a year or two and then get jason bonham to play for them , he has the chops and he is bonzos son, so it wouldnt be that much of a stretch, but like you said, plant wanted to do his own thing, so that never happened, when they did get together for the no quater tour, they completely ignored jonesey, i always thought that was a big insult to him, them going out n playing zeppelin n not getting the best bass n keyboard player, that sucked!!!
@jroxx11211 Yeah. I have the feeling something must have happened between them. Page and Plant must have been excluding him for a personal reason. No one seems to know for sure but it can't just be for the 2 way instead of 3 way spit of the money. At least they seem to have made up. I would have loved to see Jones and Plant collaborate the way Plant and Page did in the 90s. I bet some interesting music would have come from that.
@331Grabber yes. it must have been personal, something we'll never know about, unless they write a book. jonesey's been a music teacher and producer, so he has his post zeppelin life, i'd love to hear more music from him, didya hear his triple neck guitar work, he did a small college tour, i'd have loved to have seen it, its on youtube, look it up, its pretty good!
@jroxx11211 I wouldn't say that Page's heroin addiction was a reason they were great. Page started using heroin in 1975, after Physical Graffiti came out. In my opinion, Led Zeppelin just wasn't playing at the standard they used to on the albums Presence and In Through the Out Door. I've always thought of those as the two weakest Zeppelin records (they are still awesome albums that had quite a few amazing songs). Page's addiction interfered with, not helped Led Zeppelin.
@331Grabber It all worked out the way it was supposed too, nothing else could alter what is supposed to happen it falls in place, all of them as individuals made the band with what each of them brought to the table. Each one was able to survive on their own but NOTHING like when they were together and Page was now sober and realized it was over, they all did. Jason would be judged from day 1 and anyone else would never compare regaurdless who it was and they all knew it ,OTHERWISE it would...?
@cottonfever1221 Led Zeppelin lived and died like a legend. They were never mediocre. I also think Led Zep started as a youth thing. It grew and matured as long as they were together but it stopped growing the moment Bonzo died. If he hadn't died the music would have continued to evolve. But as things turned out if they had gotten back together later, like in the 90s it would have been tough because they hadn't evolved together like before. It's like a chain of events was broken permanently.
@AllofYouGuys! - What's this?! An actual discussion on YouTube? Interesting reading the comments & replies. I never felt that P&P overlooked what Bonham & JPJ brought to the table. I'm probably wrong, but I get the impression that Bonham was getting tired of touring, hence the heavy drinking during their last tour. I could see LZ ending after 1980 even if Bonzo didn't die.
@zachmcfatridge Custard Pie has a slower tempo than this and the Wanton Song. I'm not too sure if the Wanton Song came from this, that's just what I think.
with you on that - JPJ rules the bass - while all 4 members were off the charts - Plant and Page did receive much more credit, fame, etc than JPJ and Bonzo - partly because of their roles (lead singer, lead guitar) and partly because of their personalities, whatever - Led Zep - the greatest rock n roll band, with all due respect to everyone else.
A lot of people are saying In The Light and Trampled Under Foot, but I kinda see more elements of the Wanton Song and A lot of Candy Store Rock. I can see the other two, but I really think that this fits in more with Candy Store Rock.
who couldn't write great song's with a bass player and drummer grooving like that it's really hard to find the right players that gel like that im still looking it's hard
@cainusrising without a doubt, couple years back i saw him open for robert fripp, the man was responsible for most of the grooves that zep wrote throughout their career...absolute genuis...had no idea until i saw him solo
I agree 100%. John Paul Jones is the most under-rated musician of all-time. He was also the most musically complex and versatile of all the members of Led Zeppelin and I do Love Jimmy, Robert and Bonzo all equally, but Jonesy had/has so many talents that went virtually un-recognised during the Great and Mighty days of Led Zeppelin.
@lzzoso i disagree. JPJ has had a great amount of recognition through led zeppelin. In my honest opinion , Shawn Phillips is the most underrated musician of all time. they don't call him the best kept secret in the industry for nothing. Of course if you're talking about the single musician to be part of a great/legendary band being underrated ( possibly compared to his bandmates) , then yes , JPJ is very much the holder of that title.
@cainusrising ...no he is fucking not!! He is a well respected musician by other musicians and fans of music!! Why do so many retarded fuckin retards think he is underrated???? He is one of the most talented players in modern music and very well respected. He has played and produced so many quality bands with high respect! What the fuck are you talking about?
Absolutely exhilarating.... F*CK yeah.... Mr. Page sure was something wasn't he? Pop your hips around and air guitar to that one why don't ya.... and see if you don't feel awesome for at least a second.
Hey. Thanks for sharing with us Zep fans this rare treasure. All I can say is... WOW!!! Just listen to that bass Jones delivers. And Page giving us another of his grand "1,000 note flurries". Zeppelin Rules!!!
Fuck! JPJ is an awesome bassplayer. What a funky bassline this tune has. And I love how he plays those thick bass chords, too. Give's Zep such a fat sound.
Thanks for this rare upload. Sounds like this went in two or three directions -- The Rover and Night Flight and maybe Trampled Underfoot ...three songs come from one? They were the best at improvising!
Sounds like a early working for parts of The Rover as it was the original intro to this song was losounded likest in the studio. As legend goes Page had a great solo intro for the Rover that was recorded over . This could be a great great post to what the original might of

Robert's microphone isn't set to be louder than the guitar and drums.......The guitar and drums partialy covers Plant's voice you barely hear somthing.Nice song, anyway\m/\m/. Peace!
@mvandeven thats the great thing about zep they were all good, they could rock on off an roll right back into it... IM sure plant an page had ABSOLUTELY NOTHJING TO DO WITH IT, ya know for the time jimmy was about the best producer around and plants voice was amazing, did ya ever hear dabnish tv, wow no dis respect thjey were all good but come on. yes im drinkin
@den85denden i agree with you that they were all awesome. i'm just saying that i feel like without jones and bonham, zeppelin would have been just another 70s rock band rather than the phenomenon they were and continue to be.
@mvandeven why do people do this, THEY WERE ALL LED ZEPPELIN, with JPJ there would be no led zeppelin cause he had the musical theory background and the technical knowledge, with out bonza there would be no led zeppelin cause of his power and rhythm on the drums, with out plant there would be no led zeppelin cause his voice made what could be considered rock songs into blues jams which would be the epitome of zepp. and most of all with jimmy page there would be no led zeppelin...
@mvandeven I would have to kindly disagree. I think that they all played their own individual but equal part in creating music. Because, (just my opinion) their solo work is most definitely not as well put together or as great as the songs that Zeppelin had. They all needed eachother to do what they did.
Not exactly. You can't have Zeppelin without one of the guys, or more. That's why they ended when Bonzo died, because they knew they'd never find anyone of his caliber ever again. They were the elite of the elite, whether they knew it or not, and nothing would've been the same had Page not been on guitar, Plant on vocals, Bonzo on drums and John P. Jones on bass. It wouldn't be the Zeppelin we know and love today.
@PinknessOfFloyd Very well stated and correct. Zeppelin's incredible chemistry was possible only with those four stellar musicians. Take any one of them out and the greatest band in rock history ceases to exist....The billion or so Zep fans all knew in their hearts that when Bonham died it was over. It still makes me sad.
Does anyone know the Zeppelin song where Robert plant talks in the first minute with no music and i think a harmonica comes in...It might not even be Zeppelin but it was damn good!

Hey. Thanks for sharing with us Zep fans this rare treasure. All I can say is... WOW!!! Just listen to that bass Jones delivers. And Page giving us another of his grand "1,000 note flurries". Zeppelin Rules!!!

Sting and Flea should bend down and kiss JPJ's ass these lads are it....

Fuck! JPJ is an awesome bassplayer. What a funky bassline this tune has. And I love how he plays those thick bass chords, too. Give's Zep such a fat sound.

Jimmy kept pushing in different directions with every album. Physical Graffitti is their dance album.
His wicked sense of rhythm is what most people take for granted.

Thanks for this rare upload. Sounds like this went in two or three directions -- The Rover and Night Flight and maybe Trampled Underfoot ...three songs come from one? They were the best at improvising!

@calc071 A little bit of the Wanton Song in there as well

Sounds like a early working for parts of The Rover as it was the original intro to this song was losounded likest in the studio. As legend goes Page had a great solo intro for the Rover that was recorded over . This could be a great great post to what the original might of

@mvandeven thats the great thing about zep they were all good, they could rock on off an roll right back into it... IM sure plant an page had ABSOLUTELY NOTHJING TO DO WITH IT, ya know for the time jimmy was about the best producer around and plants voice was amazing, did ya ever hear dabnish tv, wow no dis respect thjey were all good but come on. yes im drinkin
den85denden 11 months ago
@den85denden i agree with you that they were all awesome. i'm just saying that i feel like without jones and bonham, zeppelin would have been just another 70s rock band rather than the phenomenon they were and continue to be.
mvandeven 11 months ago
@mvandeven why do people do this, THEY WERE ALL LED ZEPPELIN, with JPJ there would be no led zeppelin cause he had the musical theory background and the technical knowledge, with out bonza there would be no led zeppelin cause of his power and rhythm on the drums, with out plant there would be no led zeppelin cause his voice made what could be considered rock songs into blues jams which would be the epitome of zepp. and most of all with jimmy page there would be no led zeppelin...

@mvandeven he formed the band, he produced the records AND he wrote 90% of the riffs and 100% of the solos. they were all equally part of the band
theSodMonster 11 months ago
@mvandeven well Robert Plant and page where a pretty big part of zeppelin too
MrTrsmusic 11 months ago
@mvandeven I would have to kindly disagree. I think that they all played their own individual but equal part in creating music. Because, (just my opinion) their solo work is most definitely not as well put together or as great as the songs that Zeppelin had. They all needed eachother to do what they did.
FRUUBIES 11 months ago
@mvandeven

@PinknessOfFloyd The perfect lineup!
jsc9306 5 months ago
@PinknessOfFloyd Very well stated and correct. Zeppelin's incredible chemistry was possible only with those four stellar musicians. Take any one of them out and the greatest band in rock history ceases to exist....The billion or so Zep fans all knew in their hearts that when Bonham died it was over. It still makes me sad.
