But yeah, as someone else pointed out below, video games in general these days borrow so many ideas from each other it is often quite hard to tell who is a clone of who anymore.

Same goes for gta 2-1998 and gta london

Driv3r 2003 (Another great drver game comparable/better than gta 3)

So; calling Driver a GTA clone is FAR from right, if anything; GTA is a Driver clone...

your wrong Driver 2 didn't have guns (except cut-scenes). driver 1 had exploration but not on foot GTA2 was top down 3d game

@ScDnBMusic This is such a pointless argument, just wanted to correct you on one thing though. The original Grand Theft Auto came out in 1997, and the first Driver game wasn't made until 1999.

In original Driver you couldn't even leave your car, but in Driver 2 you could. How does that make GTA the clone?

And for Driver 2 being in 3D first, I'd rather it had been top-down like GTA because the graphics were bad. If they wanted to make it 3D they should have put it on Dreamcast and skipped PS1.

I may rent it some day ... i don't think i could handle the driving controls on just the nunchuck. I need my A-button to be the accelerator and my right shoulder button to be the e-break. And to have to use 2 fingers at once on the Z and C is just impossible to me. I grew up with NES and SNES gamepads and then N64 and Gamecube. Eventually i did get a PS2 and an Xbox, but i could never get my fingers to be dextrous enough to use both shoulder buttons at the same time. Looks kinda cool, tho.

Yes it is.

The mechanics for GTA were 1st seen in Driver thus making what people now know as GTA a clone of Driver.

I liked GTA 2. The game was nice to play from that perspective. and there was a file which u could open with word where all the car stats were shown, un could change the speed of the cars, that was fun hehe ;)
