can ya give me an opinion? i'll give ya my story.
the mac was given to me and booted to desktop but the keyboard and mouse wouldn't respond. (clock was moving though, so not frozen) however on startup, it took a while for the black screen to go into the grey apple.
eventually i tried all those commands to get into safe mode and open firmware etc... eventually the screen just never made it to the grey apple anymore. :( it stays black but im convinced the screen aint dead
All hard drives eventually fail, regardless of whether in a PC, a Mac etc.
This is what scares me when people say they don't back up anything: a hard drive is a tape drive, effectively. It has a lifespan of 5-6 years depending on how often it's used. They don't last forever
yeah some macs have funky little quirks like this. did you do something to the hard drive? i took my hard drive out of my G4 quicksilver and put it back in later and it does this almost every time. If I wait a few seconds the gray apple shows up and it starts up normally
go into system preferences and click startup disk select your hard drive with the mac os on it and click restart it should go away i did it and it worked
Trust me on this, My dad fix our comp with the same problem, same comp too. its something easy to replace in the back of the computer. I dont know what part it was But I can ask if you want, this is a do it your self, dont take it in. let me know.
Thanks for posting this video I guess.
But Im going to see if I can replace my hard drive.

Easy your hard disk has had it, you could try to reformat it or fit a new one.

Well I finally solved the problem.
I had to change the hard drive and now everything is fine.

Hi my imac is doing the exact same thing.
Did you get this fixed? If so what did you have to do to fix it? How much did it cost? and sis you lose anything off of your harddrive?

I didn't get it fixed yet. I tried the genius drive app but nothing changed.
It's a really strange problem.
For the last few months, it got a bit better, meaning it started after 2-3 tries!
