So if a dog gets a bone and buries it, then next week gets another bone and buries it in a new spot, you're saying that the dog will forget where it has buried the bone.
No doubt this video contains very good information, but I don't believe it's 100% accurate.
There's a distinct difference in my dogs demeanor when she's tinkled while I've been gone. I know immediately that she did something while I'm out. When she knows she's done something wrong I try to assess why before I decide what to do. 90% of the time, it's my screw up.
this woman's an idiot. "dog's don't remember". if thats the case, then she contradicts herself by saying dogs dont remember previous owners, then says they learn to duck away from a hand because their previous owner was abusive. everyone knows that dogs work through memory, not through rationalizing every situation. this video is LAME!
What she's trying to say is they have Learned Behavior. They learn by repetition of positive reinforcement, not memory recall all the time. It's applied behavioral techniques that work with a dog, and WE as their owners have to learn how to teach them.
to: DRKAEPPEL: You have to reward your dog for good behavior, so catch them being quiet, use a repetitive term and give them a reward. Read more about Westies and you'll see it's a common problem and see what works for other owners.
So our westie gets in moods where he barks seemingly at nothing. We usually tell him firmly, "no" or "no barking." Typically he slinks away and as soon as we stop looking at him, he starts doing it again. It seems sort of like neurotic behavior. He gets plenty of exercise. Should we get him a bark collar? I'm kind of at a loss..
human teeth > dogs teeth more bacteria more can kill and infect others. .. I like the catch em spank em rub their faces in there urine did it once and never another problem with the dog indoor
Thats BS dogs do have memory I find crap on the carpet the dog knows what its done wrong, because she immediatley becomes less energetic, or hides upon my presence after she's done what she did. You have to take the dog at the area it did an accident and spank em on the butt once or twice, then they'll remember not to release in the house
@Alexpmcny That is the best way to teach a dog to poop and pee behind the couch where you can't see it. Dogs respond to your body language or what's happened in the past. You find poop and get mad, she senses you're mad and offer appeasement behaviors. OR she remembers the last 10 times you came home you yelled at her, so now she automatically slinks away when you come home.
human hand is no match for a dogs teeth? there is different dogs out there and im pretty sure the smaller ones can get there necks snaped by a human hand.
i live in austrailr and i have a labradoodle called pepper in my county if dogs chase sheep she will be shot not only that but i happen to own she but when i call her she dose not listen she has once already been caught chasing sheep and giving a warning my parents say she must learn dicipln or she will go i dont want to lose her so please can you help me or any 1 else that reads this !!
I really liked this video but ... the question remains, HOW do I get the dog to stop urinating so much? I hear a lot of try this & that but I'm not getting steps
My girlfriend got a puppy pit bull and i hit her with my hands, or whatever she chewed up. I hit her as she pee's or craps on the floor. But I only hit her in the act! I see my girlfriend on the weekends and when i'm gone she has "accidents". when i'm there, the dog is good most the time. I caught her chewing up a sock, so I got up and hit her with it. She pissed on the floor. She never did it again. enough said.
you should never hit a dog...most places would fine you heavily if got caught in the act publicly...because it is a low form, of animal abuse. dogs dont learn from it..THEY DONT!..they learn to fear..and most of the time it just makes the situation worse. the dog probably pees like crazy when your not there..becaus eit hasnt been taught correctly.....and a puppy?? a puppy? seriously..you hit a puppy..that makes look great doesnt it.
listen lady. i don't do it out of enjoyment. i don't just sit there and wait around until she does the slightest thing wrong and attack her like some horror movie. i said i "hit" the dog...not beat the shit out of it. my dog is very well trained in many things now and responds to my commands. she jumps all over me when i come home. we play all the time. i didn't teach fear...i taught her to respect me. last thing i want to do is hit her.
well then dont take it out on the person who made this cause you know that you taught your dog well enough to not do those things so it doesnt really matter
I'm not taking it out on anyone. I commented on how it's not nessesarly true that hitting your dog doesn't work. Plus I'll comment to whatever I please. If they didn't want feedback they'd simply disable the comment posting.
lots of truth in this video, and YES evryone should watch this...BUT... is this video saying that dogs don't remember thier previous owner? if i lost my dog for a year, hell 6 years, then was re-united with w/ her..i'll bet MY LIFE she remembers me..anyone agree?
I don't agree with your memory theory at all. I don't understand how they could learn with out recalling from their memory what you trained them to do,
thats such crap...when our family dog crapped the carpet, she hid in the bathtub before we even saw it, because she knew she messed up, dogs have a memory...larger breeds at least
they dont remember do you know who hachi was, the dog that waited for his dead owner outside his work for like 10 years.

If they learned to duck away from a hand cause their previous owner was abusive, then obviosuly the dog remembers it's previous owner in some way.

With hiting/punishing your dog, you are not teaching.. but scaring the dog.
I have never ever done anything physical with my dog. She is still obedient :)

A good way to not get your dog to piss all over is to take it by the color and shove its face in its urine. Then spank it once to maket he point.
Amen.
