Andrew's preferred tuning is in D. So it would be DADF#AD . Andrew doesn't have a prob with tension on top strings, he uses 60s to 18s. The other tuning he uses is DADDAD which is safer for the third string. sounds cool :))

@vibe66 as far as I know, most slide guitarists will tune open D and capo to tune to other keys, Open D is like what you described except switch out your G for an F# and B for A... you can keep the B to add a seventh but it gets difficult when you start sliding around and as far as i know, most just wont... good luck!!!
