This is my dream and every time im feeling like I won't make it to the dream, I watch this video. It is my motivation because I want to do this for my entire adult life and I realize every time I watch it that there is nothing that can stop me if I dedicate myself.
I did test back in 1998 for being a pilot but my eyes are to bad...I love the cobra!! in my country we have the Apache
We fight against the same enemy and have to loose friends and family but the guys that are being out there are the true hero's!! the bravest of all!! my respect for them! Semper fidelis to Us Marines and The Dutch forces Israel Defence Forces (IDF)
Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron, I worked in this unit on this deployment and the next one they did, they are out again, and God do I miss them. I worked there for over 2 and a half years.
Awesome video. I have a question for the current Marine Aviators. What is the possibility that a current ROTC midshipman would have to fly the new UH-1Y?
I know we ordered 123 of them, but I don't know if all UH-1N pilots are changing over or what the Corps plans to do with the old Hueys besides convert them.
Not great, they are transitioning to the Yankee and Zulus but at a slow pace, expect to see the change sometime around 2012 at the earliest. Right now they are at the training squadron at Miramar, CA and also Pax River, MD
Absolutely. I see that they're being implemented for anti-piracy ops, and are being deployed elsewhere. I haven't kept too terribly up to date on where exactly they're going, or whether there are still conversions going on. Still interested though.
The conversions are definatley going on... we have november pilots check in all the time to convert to the yankee. new lieutenants are selecting the yankee right out of advanced flight training as well. the yankee is awesome. im a cobra guy, but were all in the same training squadron.
Sweet, at this point I wouldn't mind going either platform, from what I understand ops aren't terribly different, and like you said we'll all be training together. I'm set to take the ASTB in January, I think that'll determine whether I'm more infantry than I think I am.
Haha that test wont tell you whether to go infantry or not. The Basic School will. If you want to fly, get an air contract, then drop it later if you want to stay on the ground.
So if I go for a guaranteed flight spot, then I can drop it during TBS and go ground? Or would I have to drop it afterwords and go to TBS again, because I thought there was more than one TBS "version", like the flight option/infantry maybe? Either way, it'd probably piss off the Corps pretty good.
Have an idea before the basic school if you want to be a pilot or not. there is only one basic school which all new marine officers go through, then youll go to your respective mos training.
My ultimate goal is to become a supercobra pilot. My dad was a crewchief in HML-267 and my causin flys AV-8's. I think about it everyday and im highley motivated.
I don't Like Marines (Army Vet.) but, they are family too. So I love and respect them and they job they do. This is a cool video, but instead of seeing them blow things up. It would be even better to see these men and women coming home and rejoining their families. Oh yeah play that song too!
you have to go to college and then enlist as an officer go to ocs (officer candidate shcool) then you hope for the best. best thing would be go talk to a recruiter. if you live in southern california I got someone I can refer you to. let me know and I can email you.
Don't get a sense of anything while flying, usually too busy. When your done flying, you think damn I have a cool job. Well after the debrief that is. Those can be painful. Lol
this might have been an edited version with HF tags present only during unit swap..but later removed...personally i like the square checker flag better than the daimond looking mod that douchbag killmier thought it look cute!..now this guy elevates the definition of Semper "I" to astronomical levels
Nice video, and to confirm the controversy about what sqaudron this is, just go to 2:08 and look at the tail letters, they are TV. That is the tail letters for HML/A 167. The tail letters for HML/A 269 are HF. I know this because I was in 167 from 89-93. Anyhow Semper Fi to all my bros out there!
Hey i just wanna say i love this video. Also wanna add that the guy that you and benhurober were talking about "Swede1775" also has said that he made another video only that this one is of him fighting in the streets of iraq ??? and he also has posted a Part One of his verson of this film which is called USMC HMLA-269 In Iraq Part 1. I just wanted to let you know about that cause i belive that this video was made by who you say it is by.
God Bless the troops! Keep fighting the good fight.
Just for the record, I don't think "Swede1775" is claiming any of these videos. If you look on his profile it says
"the movies & clips posted by me are sent to me from old friends in the Military or Law Enforcement Communities. I often remix them and post them. In no way am I trying to claim any credit for the footage or photos used in creating these films."
Also, SaipanExpress, anyone that has deployed with 269 or 167 to Iraq knows that the same a/c stay out there for both squadrons.
what all so kills me is that fact he wont allow comments to be posted with out him approving it. i guess he doesnt want anyone to find out he he didnt make it.
World Famous Vipers, HMLA-169. Best squadron in the Corps.

It's a squadron's designator, there's abbreviations for everything in the military.
H= Rotary wing (helicopter)
M= Marine
L= Light
