  • The US Military is God's greatest gift to man. I salute you!

  • What's sad about all the mud-slinging aimed at Stossel is that the book he refers to and upon which this show is based was written by Dinesh D'Souza, an Indian immigrant. Mr. D'Souza possesses amazing insights, most of which are based upon his immigration to America and finally becoming an American citizen. His viewpoint is not slanted at all. Please watch the show again and again and do your research before you make hasty judgements.

  • i am very disappointed in stossel. who cares if infrastructure is rebuilt, with stolen tax money, people were fucking killed.

  • What's great about America? As long as the government stays out of our lives and only defends our country and stands up for the individual, not the collective, and protects our property rights, then yes America could be great.

  • I love the Stossel show, but this pro-war shit is ridiculous. We do "own" the countries we conquer. We install puppet governments that do our bidding. What the difference?

At 2:10, this guy says we pull our troops out. What is he talking about? We STILL have troops in Germany, Japan, Korea, and 140 other countries around the world!

C'mon Stossel, Give me a break!

  • @realrockvince LOL, puppet governments? Even though we contribute more to support the U.N. than any other nation, it's always a struggle to get other nations to vote with us. Worse, we end doing the work that the U.N. won't do because the other countries would rather see us pay for everything. You actually don't know these things? It's the world's dirty little secret - hold back when something needs to be done and eventually the U.S. will do it for us. You guys are incredibly naive.

  • @realrockvince "Puppet governments", u serious? We brought about free democratic elections in Iraq, something unprecedented for that region.

  • MaureenOWW speaks in broad generalities with no data. How is the US holding on to South America? By doing business with it? And please don't give conspiracy theories.

  • Oh, and the difference between the european empires and the American empire is that YOU ARE STILL HOLDING ON TO YOURS. The 3 big imperial nations since WW2 have been the US, USSR and China. China now has Africa, Russia is holding on to central asia, the US has s. america. Those are the facts. Everyone in the world knows this- so why don't YOU? You are like a child who doesn't want to hear bad news. Try reading a history book once in a while.

  • @maureenOWW

So us Americans are collecting tribute from South America &

nobody told me about it ?

    Wow !

maureenOWW , Your tin foil hat is a little tight, Its cutting off the Oxygen to your brain.

  • @maureenOWW Right, maureen (strange name for a guy), Venezuela's socialist dictator hates America and does everything he can to trash us. Brazil is making deals with Venezuela despite what we would like to see them do. I could go on and on but I have a sneaky little feeling that facts mean absolutely nothing to you. You're good at bad sarcasm but very short on facts and sound reasoning. In other words, you're an empty suit. BTW, why don't you ever tell us what country you are a citizen of?

  • @maureenOWW Yes, because the United States produces three times what the entire continent of South America produces. Even if we stole every last penny they produced we still wouldn't be much wealthier.

  • @maureenOWW The US "has" South America? When I went to Mexico (Central America, but whatever) it seemed like Spain had more influence there on industry than the US. What do you mean it has South America?

  • If we own South America then Venezuela, Bolivia, and Brazil sure have a funny way of adhering to their emperial masters... moron.

  • Tsk, tsk, maureen. We won independence from England, which was an empire builder. Native Americans slaughtered other Native Americans before we came. Spain was another empire builder. We have no empire and after we help other nations defend themselves against tyrants, we help to rebuild defeated nations and then we leave. Ask the English, French, Germans, Japanese, etc. Name one nation in history that did the same. BTW, what is your country? I'd like to know.

  • Since about 1900 the US has almost complete control of the americas. The only bit it doesn't interfere with is Canada. Everything south of the US is part of the US 'informal empire', which they control economically and politically (and sometimes militarily), just as the UK and France used to control africa and asia. It has overthrown about a dozen democratically elected goverments and purposefully ruined the continents economy and development. These are facts.

  • @maureenOWW As to "... the US has almost complete control of the americas", have you ever heard of Canada and Mexico? Do you really think we have control of them? BTW, we "stole" land from Mexico after they viciously stole it from others for their empire. Do you think Californians and Texans would rather be Mexicans? The fact is people continue to flock to the U.S. for good reason. There is simply no other country in the world with our Constitution and Bill of Rights. And there never has been.

  • @maureenOWW OK, maureen (or whoever you are) it should be clear by now to anyone with half a brain and a third grade education that you are either a five or six year old child or you have drank far too much Koolaid. In any case, I wish you the best and sincerely hope you can find a cure for your debilitating "hate" disease. Meanwhile, I must move on to more intelligent and informed discussions before I catch whatever you have.

  • To all of you anti-American discontents: Your pseudo-intellectual meanderings merely expose the depth of your ignorance. Stossel's points are irrefutable. For over two hundred years people have flocked to our shores because they know the U.S.A. is the greatest nation on this planet. Name just one nation that has ever given as much of its wealth to help others. As to our military "ventures", as Colin Powell once said, "The only land we ever asked for was enough to bury our dead."

  • @alasitis 'As to our military "ventures", as Colin Powell once said, "The only land we ever asked for was enough to bury our dead." ' - er, your nation is built on the ruins of dozens of nations and millions of dead natives who your government slaughtered from 1776 until the early 20th century. Your government is one of few who have actively had a policy of extermination of an entire people. Then theres the land you stole from Mexico, Spain, your invasions in s.america, Asia etc. Read a book.

  • @alasitis 'Name just one nation that has ever given as much of its wealth to help others' - Well lets start with Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Belgium. All give several times more than the US per capita to overseas aid - this includes both private and govermental donations. Germany, UK and France give twice what america does per capita. Any other questions? (p.s. why didn't you find this out for yourself, hmm? And WHY did you believe that the US was No.1?)

  • @maureenOWW If you are merely looking at official government foreign aid you're right. However, when you consider private citizen donations, our peace-keeping operations, naval operations to keep sea lanes open for safe commerce, emergency relief like the last big tsunami, etc., the picture changes. Try as you may, the U.S. is a force for good in this world and if you think the world would be better off without the U.S. in it, you need to think again. It would be a world of Hitlers.

  • Can't believe Stossel is saying this stuff.

  • @Paulintheoh8 I agree, I can't believe how 9/11 changed so many normal intelligent americans into mindless patriotic zombies. The section on the military is just disgusting. 'america doesn't occupy countries'. Hmm...how did america grow from a thin strip on the east coast to occupying half the continent? Did the millions of people who lived their just say 'Oh, okay, you can have all the land'. Or did they get slaughtered in a hundred years of constant government-led genocidal conquest?

  • @maureenOWW Spain viciously destroyed the Incas, etc., and called it Mexico. And Californians and Texans would rather be Mexicans. Your statements are absurd. It's strange, isn't it, that for over two hundred years millions of people want to get into America but virtually no one wants to leave. Have you ever seen the proud and happy faces of immigrants as they are sworn in as new American citizens? Do you think they are just more "mindless patriotic citizens"? Again, what is your country?

  • @alasitis Hmm, three whole replies and yet you didn't dispute any of my factual statements (because you can't, because they're facts). I'll say it again, slowly, so that you understand: The US is an imperial nation, it has been since it's creation. Barely a year has gone past when it hasn't taken new territory, been at war with it's neighbours (almost always being the belligerent) or been syphoning of the wealth of some poor nation. It's no different than france or britain - you just lie more.

  • @maureenOWW

That America is an "imperialist" nation is your opinion, not a fact. Millions of people flee real tyranny to find a better life in the country.

Lefties typically point agression of super powers centuries ago to condemn them as "imperialist", but conveniently forget people who die under modern tyrannies of Sharia law and communism. If America is imperialist, then so are Japan, China, 99% of Europe, and other nations that are relatively free.

    Ridiculous.

  • @alasitis Oh, and I'm Manx/Irish, and my wife is american, so I could become a US citizen if I wanted. Guess what? I haven't.

  • @maureenOWW LOL, dunno who peed in your cereal but you are hallucinating. While the US military is a huge burden on the American taxpayer, it has also given the rest of the western world an almost free ride to security. I don't think a European should whine a lot about the US military, after all, we owe our freedom (the little what's left of it due to socialism) to it. You seem to be a victim of the leftist political propaganda that is bombarded in Europe since birth. Really sad.

  • @Paulintheoh8 Remember when that wrestler slapped him? Maybe it broke his brain...someone should slap him like that again, to see if they can fix it.

  • Part 1:

Exuding the love it or leave it exuberance he is famous for, D'Souza, the rah-rah for the neoconservative movement, sums it up use of the double entendre and he's probably not even aware of the irony. “American troops go in; American troops pull out”. Sounds very much like a sexual connotation or perhaps it is even analogous to the act of rape. It is government that is responsible for the assignments and actions of the military and so, responsible for the consequences.

  • Part 2

Meanwhile, there is no mention of the havoc, destruction and devastation left in the wake. The unjustifiable destroying of a country just to be able to claim virtue following its reconstruction. D’Souza should know that a nation no longer needs to “own” another through occupation in order exert influential control. It happens quite effectively though the manipulation of their economy, political propaganda and outright coup orchestration as the CIA has done throughout their history.

  • Part 3:

As a constitutionalist libertarian, I would be remiss if I did not question the integrity and principles of Mr. Stossel as they apply to a few areas of this Fox television special. Although it could all have been done simply to lure in viewers of different political persuasion, for the sole purpose of ratings and advertising revenue. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that. It would just be nice on occasion, to be provided with such knowledge in advance.

  • With this clip, Stossel has joined the ranks of the truly pathetic.

  • @healthhavencom - Do you have any facts or substantive points or just name calling?
