You can easily tell the difference once you air down. If you don't air down at Polihale beach your truck would be straining as it plows throw the sand instead of floating on top of it.
In this video the owner of the tundra should have dropped the tire pressure to 10lbs. The wheels he has on the truck is nice aesthetically but doesn't appear to be suited for sand as his low profile tire will not flatten out giving him maximum traction.
I live on Kauai and some beaches have fine compact sand and then there are those with large granular sand that have a lot of air space between the grains. Some sand will sink any truck or tracked vehicle.
Tundra's are badass... It's the owner that's flawed. I drive on the beach several times a week where I'm from and it's all about the driver. Depending if the sand is fine or coarse and wet or dry will determine if I even use my 4wheel drive or drop the tire pressure down to 12 lbs.
its amazing how few of people realize they need to air down their tires when they get stuck like that. I have seen people sitting on their frame they were stuck so bad, they aired down and drove right out.
that idiot tundra wouldn't be worth the hassle to spool out my winchline. i would've hooked up a strap and yanked him. if that didn't work, i'd leave him for someone else to try and help.
iv owned 6 toyotas in 4 years never a mechanical fail and at least a toyota pulled him out i will not let a chevy pull me out id rather walk to my other one
@tundra161 So if Toyota's are so good, than why did you own 6 in 4 years? And you would rather walk then be pulled out by a Chevy? Dude just just the fuck up, you are a stupid asshole who dosent know shit. I cant stand shit talkers like you.
@decimadimencion dosnt matter the rim.....makes no diff... all he needed to do is air down, but like all idiots that off road there with thier urban 4x4, none of them are equipped.....
@racecardriver467 by all means airing down does improve flotation in sand, but I mostly point out that the tires being used by the truck have a relatively small side wall. Those sidewalls don't flex as much as on 35x12.5 tires... when a tire with big sidewall are air down the tires footprint is widened thus spreading the load of the vehicle more evenly on the sand. With the new 20" wheels and tires the sidewall is much smaller and dont bulge out as much. Plus the sidewalls are hard on 20"tires
@GeoThundra haha i gotcha...i own a 97 ford powerstroke and going to the dunes never works out great for me...too much weight and too much torque equals alot of time on the wrong end of a tow strap usually
let some air out of the tires moron.......

Winches are not practical in sand like this. Takes too long to get someone unstuck. You're better off hooking up and towing their asses free.
